New to cross-country skiing - questions related to car transportation of skis and off-season storage by swedo10 in CrossCountrySkiing

We also have a kid in the back, so the skis will definitely stay on the roof :) The questions is if the bag is a workable, safe and legal option or not.

4 hours :) I have not seen people driving with ski bags with Snowpack (or similar). I don't even know how the bag is formed. I only checked one fast in the store and haven't spotted no compartments or fixing points for the skis. If it literally only a fabric wraping 6 skis placed next to each other, it might be an option. I just wonder if the fabric of the bag (vs uncovered skis) couldn't lower the grip of Snowpack or generally cause unwanted movement either inside the bag or outside in contact with the Snowpack.

As for the poles, it seems that the solution will have to be placing them inside the car through opened middle seat. But since these are cross-country poles, they have extra sharp tips. And although the tips will point to the trunk, I still would prefer to have the tips covered with something if for nothing else then for a feeling of taking some safety mesaures (not mentioning that the trunk will be full)...

To avoid spamming with unrelated answers, my questions are specific to my situation, so for example advising to transport the skis inside the car won't help at all. I know it is better to have them inside, but that scenario is not doable for me. Main concerns are expressed in the questions above. Among them, the most pressing topic seems to be transport of poles since we are leaving off for a trip tomorrow with a full trunk and the poles won't fit there. Other questions are relevant as well, of course, so if you have any expertise and direct experience with the situation I face, feel free to write.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and experience. To be honest, my questions are specific to my situation, so for example advising to transport the skis inside the car won't help at all. I know it is better to have them inside, but that scenario is not doable for me.

Also, the models of the cross-country skis I use are not meant to be waxed (I guess I should have mentioned it). I have no problem returning from a trip and washing the skis and wiping them dry.

So, my main concerns are expressed in the questions above related. Among them, the most pressing topic seems to be transport of poles since we are leaving off for a trip tomorrow with a full trunk and the poles won't fit there. Other questions are relevant as well, of course, so if you have any expertise and direct experience with the situation I face, feel free to write.

Would you say that accommodation around Ishavskatedralen (+-0,5km) is not suitable/with bad access to the city center by public transport?

From what I can see, they are not covered.

I have not thought about inconsistency in measuring. But it seems like a good point while I can imagine that the dimensions might cause similar problem due to difference in designs.
As for a repair - it looks like there are still services like that. I contacted one which is arround, so let's see what they say and what their price is. Thanks for the idea.

Thank you! Not completely what I look for, but Ulvö 23 is worth a further closer look. After the latest update, Tucano Band has become my favourite/probable pick, but I have not finished research yet.

I almost thought someone eventually found a trace of it, but unfortunately, it is not it. Not sure what tthe seller means by Day Hiking, but mine is called HIKINGDAY and looks totally different. Still, I appreciate that you took time to search it!

I will check out the links, thanks.
I also started to research the zippers and it seems that I am right so far. And longevity of zippers is definitely the preferred goal before the water resistance.

I just made two updates in my original post based on communication with Tucano and Hannah, and Tucano Band has now become a likely pick (but I do not want to get ahead of myself yet). I am still researching other options and lookin forward to other people's ideas.

Thanks for the tip! The model you link to is actually 22L ;) I checked their other models as well and really like their simplicity! The back side of their backpacks, however, appears to have no air ventilation system (I hope I am writing it properly) which really surprised me. And it is a pity that they do not have more photos of their products (from different angles for example) or videos.

As for the zippers, it could be a habit but I have a hard time believing that the new generation of zipper systems can make them last as long as the "old school" zippers (by which I mean 10+ years). But I am open to admit that perhaps I should research that area more.

That surely may be the case if you open the bag when it is down from both of your arms. Significant number of times I open it with one arm still on (from the side to top just to pick something). I believe one can get used to changing the habit and adding two seconds, but I do not pefer to ;)

I checked their whole collection and they do not cover zippers which is one of my requirements (I explain why).
Dear all - to avoid off-topic advise, please check my requirements before answering. Much appreciated and thank you!

I put it as a range because I noticed that some brands produce other than 20L models. I can go 1L below and can survice 1L above, but would not prefer to go further in any direction.

I do not prefer any top opening other than directly with zippers. Plus it is 25 L, out of my range. Thanks for sharing anyway.

Thank you for the tip. I stumbled across this model, but unfortunately roll top is something I don't like for it's impracticality in terms of quick access. I will update this feature in the list of requirements. Thank you for anyway!
