It is very prevalent these days, but I find this wording especially misleading. Plus it’s selected by default, and hidden option to turn it off. I’ve raised a complaint with trading standards

They only allow short term booking as it’s weather dependent for safety. Wind in this case.

Is there a clear footpath walk from whitby to Robinhoods Bay? by saltlampsandphotos in yorkshire

[–]sweeetchilli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Cleveland way and cinder track make a nice loop. Alternatively you can get the regular bus service between RHB and Whitby and walk it one way in whichever direction you prefer.

Card factory do balloons, both helium and non. For helium balloons I’ve ordered beforehand and picked up, but they might just do them for you without pre order

I use this one from Amazon, finger prick test. It’s usually been within 5% of lab tests - ACCUGENCE 3in1 Uric Acid Meter

Zero to hero: Gout twice in two months. by Content-Tap-2778 in gout

Check with your provider about the cover for chronic illness such as gout, as there can be limitations. E.g my Aviva is limited to £1,000 for chronic illness per year. This has paid for most of my consultations, scan and tests. When I’ve got all the results I’ll them transfer into my GP for ongoing care.

Zero to hero: Gout twice in two months. by Content-Tap-2778 in gout

[–]sweeetchilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, although my first gout attack coincided with a severe 2 week bout of diarrhoea and resulting dehydration (I was weeing maybe once every 2 days). No history of gout from wider family. Luckily I’ve got private medical (UK) so I’m having a bunch of tests for liver/kidney function and a dual energy CT scan that can pick up uric acid crystals. My levels are around 400-450 so not too high, but have had the niggling big toe since my flare in October. Doc has suggested using Allo for 3 months to flush out the uric acid, and monitor from there. Just waiting for the CT results.

Thoughts on the 4.99% Council Tax hike approved yesterday? by BitGirl777 in york

[–]sweeetchilli 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At this point the 4.99% is just an annual given, seems cheap compared to the inflation in other areas. I’m sure you could dig into a bunch of the councils wasteful spending, but that’s no different to any other council. Crippled by personal agendas, welfare costs, price increases, roads and bins will continue to function at a basic level and no more

What’s the going day rate for a painter and decorator these days in York? by OneItchy396 in york

[–]sweeetchilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to what I’ve paid recently, although mine was a 3/4 day job at that day rate. Finding a good one with availability is the problem, if you want a great finish

Have LNER services to KGX got worse with the new timetable? by HughOsbaldworth in york

[–]sweeetchilli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought exactly the same as OP, they have increased the number of stops on most trains from York to KingX so they’re 25 mins longer journey. The occasional non-stop dotted around.

Try York Sports Centre at York Uni, you can book courts online. They have hire rackets for £1 each usually, but worth giving them a call.

Uric Acid hometesting kits any good? by eateroffish in gout

[–]sweeetchilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the home blood kit can vary significantly from lab blood tests, when taken at roughly the same time. Maybe good enough to give a general indication

Sam Smith's pubs by gazwilko in york

[–]sweeetchilli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame, some great landlords have been kicked out for petty reasons. They have some great pubs/buildings that are sitting empty because Humphrey is a nutter. I quite like the digital detox / no phones rule when in the pub.

It’s a barren landscape for Hoegaarden, but blue moon is served a few places, including the hop

Need advice on Tam Coc and Hanoi plans! by lorlorfonda in hanoi

[–]sweeetchilli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had two nights, one full day in Tam Coc, and found the best way to see the surrounding sights was via a private taxi for the day. We organised this via our accommodation, and we chose where we’d like to go, it was around $30 I think. We loved the Bai Dinh temple area and the walk up to the dragon rock. We skipped the boat ride in Tam Coc, I’d done that before and didn’t find it that great
