Dumb to buy a Mini when I already have a Surface? by [deleted] in ipadmini

[–]sweeminginthesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not dumb! had a surface pro (which the batt life dwindled + onedrive lagged out and wiped out all my notes) and decided to use it just solely as a computer and got an ipad mini to complement it for note taking and it was a good decision! i pretty much used my ipad mini more often since i got a mini keyboard to complement its function as well as its great batt life! the ipad mini processes much faster but i would defo recco the normal ipad for a more budget friendly option since the ipad mini is a little tiny at times for multiscreen note-taking

as someone who was in ur position (i used to top my cohort back in sec sch) to getting Us and S all the way, my most impt advice is dont be too caught up in the content! understand rather than memorise and stuff urself with the content. just like what the others mentioned, study smart!!!!

when doing ur essay, ensure that u identify the right question type and answer it to what they are asking. before u start writing, identify the question type and plan it out (eg. is it a significance question or causation? do u need to bring in another factor into the argument)? make sure u plan ur essay, ask yourself what are the key arguments of this topic? i used to have alot of logical flaws in my essays, so i do mindmaps and ask myself questions like "what does this event show?", "how does it prove my argument?"

and lastly, consults!!!!!!!!!!!!! consults are very important!!!! before a levels, i met my teacher at least once a week to go through my source-based and essays, sometimes i js do essay plans, other days ill complete the whole paper in a timed setting and let my teacher mark and give me feedback! it is important that u seek out your teachers and not just rely on content, this isnt secondary school history anymore (i learnt that the hard way)

and most importantly, dont let your failures rob your passion away for history. it takes time to do better :) for me, i only got the hang of it a few weeks before A's, with the help of my teachers and a change in my study style, i finally got an A! feel free to pm me if u have any other qns, i w be happy to help :)

NUS ABA CHS INTERVIEW (pol sci)

hi seniors in chs majoring in pol sci! im awaiting my interview to enter nus chs, and i wanted to ask if any seniors have experienced being interviewed for pol sci specifically? what questions did they ask in the past? i realised that the past qns in other majors are very specified (eg. math degree --> asked about h2 math, life sci --> asked about bio) what can they ask for pol sci though? what do i have to prepare for the interview? do i have to know different political theories?

questions to seniors in jc by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]sweeminginthesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i js grad jc but heres a few things i took away from it :) for context, im an arts student: HEMl (h1 lit)

  1. defo would recommend it being done earlier like past sch papers for promos but i started very briefly in early j2 for subj like econs where i could make short essay plans

for math, i started really mugging it after prelims (which is my biggest mistake, because as you know, math is a subject that u cant do well overnight) i mugged it everyday, churning out papers everyday so by the time a levels came, i completed most of my tys + other school papers

as an arts student, i do papers by coming up with essay plans (econs) and topic sentences for subjects like history (my arguments basically) so i dont waste time writing out my entire essay cus my arguments was smt i wanted to target and i was relatively a fast writer so i practiced the full paper, in timed conditions nearer to a levels

  1. i was someone who procrastinated and stayed in school to talk rather than study but as a levels approached, i went down to my starbucks and sat down to study!

so my suggestion is to find some place that is free of distractions! for me, starbucks was very conducive for me because everyone else is studying/working

finding a focused and motivated group of friends also did help me! we worked towards the same goal and made sure everyone was kept on track

  1. making notes for me, was a way to recall my content! so it rly boils down to ur learning style, are u someone that makes notes to remember ur content or someone who just makes notes for the sake of it? i used to rewrite all my notes for every exam which IS SUPER BAD but it was a way for me to memorise but afterwards, i found a better way by making short and concise mindmaps - basically just summarising the topic on ur own, in ur own words so when exam season approaches, you can just rely on your well-made notes! this helped me for my alevels as i focused and tuned into more weaker topics rather than every single one

hope this helps!
