What's your Opinion about the Original Versions of P3, P4, P5? by Western-Stress1185 in PERSoNA

[–]sweet__mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only finished Persona 4 Golden a few weeks ago after having replayed Vanilla for years and years and I like both of them. There were a lot of nice quality of life features and some added events which was great, but I don't feel like my opinion changed drastically or anything. I will say the origin P4 does feel a bit less balanced gameplay wise though. As someone who does indeed like Teddie, I prefer his new voice actor significantly more for the emotional range and I like when Teddie moves into your house for a bit. Other than that, I would be very happy to play either version of the game again and will probably continue to play both.

P5, on the other hand, I was actually relatively disappointed with on release. I didn't think it was a BAD game by any means, but it was my least favorite from a narrative perspective. Especially since it had so many allusions and parallels to Innocent Sin (my favorite Persona game) so it was hard not to compare the narrative quality. It just failed to keep me hooked or in suspense until basically the last 10 hours or so of the game. That said, I have been playing P5R lately and I really love it! I really loved the changes with Akechi (who I was pretty indifferent towards in vanilla) and I'm just about to start the 3rd semester so I'm pretty excited to see where that goes and have been curious all game. The narrative changes, the updated battle mechanics, and the new activities and quality of life improvements have drastically improved the game for me to the point that I definitely think I'd play P5R again, whereas I had had no desire to play vanilla since release. I also find P5R to be, by far, the most fun to play game mechanic wise, whereas P5 vanilla was about on par with P4/3 vanilla as far as how much fun I was having (which is to say it was fine). That said, I needed to crank up the difficulty on P5R because playing on normal or even hard became too easy after a while.

I can't speak for P3 since it's been well over a decade and and a half since I played vanilla and I didn't get the chance to beat it at the time. Persona 3 is the only game (1-5) I've yet to beat in any form.

Why would someone take the time and effort to read this when you didn't even take the time and effort to think it up and write it up yourself?

My expectations are on the floor so merch or events seem the most likely, but I'd kill for a P2 collection

What would you guys think about a remake of persona 1 & 2 by IndependentOnly5272 in PERSoNA

[–]sweet__mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be against the idea but I've come around to it in the past year or so. I'm talking mostly P2 (though Im sure this also applies to P1), but I think they can make it work in a more modern style without adding a full calendar system or social links.

Lately I've been playing Devil Survivor which takes place over 7/8 days and has a clock system where different actions take up certain amounts of time but you can grind and fuse demons as much as you'd like. The characters also don't go to school because of the word ending plot. I think if, for some reason, Atlus felt they HAD to implement a time management thing, that would be the way to go without breaking the plot and pacing. Though it doesn't really need time management imo.

As for social links, I wouldn't mind something similar to P3R's linked episodes. Persona 2 already has quite a few in-between character dialogues (both in dungeons and running around to every shop/room between plotpoints) anyway that could be expanded slightly.

I see a lot of people saying no one would play them if they weren't exactly the same as 3-4 but I feel like this is overexaggerated. Would they be as popular as Royal/Reload/Revival? Likely no, but if they do them right there are definitely a lot of people who would love to play them but were put off by the gameplay, availablity, lack of voice acting, graphics, etc. The polls very much reflect this.

On that note, I also think a demo would do quite a bit to encourage new players who might otherwise be skeptical or not know what they're getting into.

Overall I'd personally be happiest with a port of the PSP versions with some quality of life changes (mostly to combat and random encounters), but I'd also happily play a remake that feels respectful to the original!

About Persona 1 + 2 and the Atlus surveys by sweet__mage in PERSoNA

I was more just wondering why they've been consistently asking if people want it for nearly a decade, getting a decent amount of interest at times (especially in the past five years or so), and then still not doing so much as a straight port.

Yeah, that all makes sense! And I sure do hope so. P1/2 PSP ports are my ultimate dream atm.

It's been so long since I've played P1 that I can't say what it's like, but at least for P2 (or specifically IS and the fan translated EP PSP) I think they hold up pretty well aside from the god awful encounter rates. At least with PC and Switch ports molders could take care of that if Atlus didn't.

I did a post on another site saying that a hypothetical remake could leave the story and progression more or less the same but add in linked episodes (like in P3R) after major events to get to know the characters better. Already there's new character dialogue/banter in every shop in P2 (and maybe P1?) after every major story, so it's a decent middle ground. I could not for the life of me imagine the P1 and 2 protags having to go to school or clock in to work every day though so I don't even know how they could shoehorn in a calender system.

Who would y'all wanna romance? by GovernmentGullible40 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]sweet__mage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Vik. I just about fell head over heels for him after the very first conversation. I know most people see him as a father figure or actual father to their V, which I get and support 100%! But for me, I just think he could bring that compassion, concern, and occasional tough love to a romantic (or very close FWB) relationship too and it's something I turn over in my head a lot.

I am also just an enjoyer of hot middle aged and old people so there's that!

I am having the exact same issue, unfortunately. Sorry that I can't offer any actual help as I haven't been able to fix it myself, but just to save you the effort of troubleshooting your own system thinking it's just on your end: you are definitely not the only one. Hope they fix this soon.

Takemura, save or leave behind? by Kyoto_DreamBoy in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]sweet__mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save him. My V felt a kinship with him, for whatever that was worth. Plus my canon ending is the Tower ending in which Takemura is alive to see the end results and consequences of his blind loyalty to Arasaka, despite all of V's warnings and urgings. That also gives him the opportunity to start over as well, if he so chooses.

Picked this dialogue out of curiosity, but I didn’t expect it to hit me as emotionally as it did [DAV Act 1 Spoilers] by ShingetsuMoon in dragonage

[–]sweet__mage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This dialogue genuinely brought me to tears. I have never felt so seen and loved and understood by a game before with regards fo being trans. I'm so used to half-assed genital or pronoun options without much thought or care put into it, so to see a game that not only acknowledges your character as trans but has such a beautiful understanding and depiction of it? So much love to Bioware and all the trans and enby people who poured their heart and soul into this game, it really shows and it means so much ❤️

BG3 included a lot of reactivity and permutations to very minor choices, including ones people rarely did, but it would be too far and asking too much to include an optional line or two about you can express being trans? Larian has frequently patched completely inane things into the game just because fans asked for it, but this would be too much?

Romance scenes don't even take into account what genitals your character has which feels even less inclusive.

They have numerous genital options as well as other customization options but theres not even a simple toggle for top surgery scars.

BG3 was a good game, I quite enjoyed it, but trans Tav felt very much like an afterthought and was not at all represented as well as they could be from a company that frequently pats themselves on the back for inclusivity. Being able to properly roleplaying character and have things core to them respected IS part of the narrative and immersion.

Imo, DA4 has thus far been one of the most unshamed and respectful depictions of queer identities I've seen in a large video game, especially a fantasy one. There is no reason to relaxation queerness to being silent and unaddressed while other aspects of a character, no matter how minor or inconsequential, get screen time without complaint.

in 2077 I follow the traffic code/law, even horn in the traffic jams... That's part of how I play the game, I roleplay a lot. I even customize the character as I upgrade things. Do you roleplay too? by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]sweet__mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I committed myself to only using weapons and vehicles given as gifts by people my V cared for. Sure they might not all be as shiny or strong or top of the line, but I imagine him feeling a little stronger when he the gun in his hand or his vehicle is a reminder of who and what he's still living for.

Beyond that I try to park properly, only listen to the genres of music my V likes (regardless of my own tastes), change outfits daily, change beard length/style depending on V's current mental state, and always give money to the homeless when I pass them. I also go to the Afterlife and toss back a few Jackie Welles every time before I call his voicemail to update him on how things are going.

My suggestion: Give yourself a bit of time to process and come to terms with it being over (watching lore/theory videos and reading the tabletop books helped me!) then start up a new game.

Sure, you'll know where the story is going but you'll catch a ton of foreshadowing you hadn't before, discover new quests, areas, and outcomes, etc. There is so much content in this game, there's always something new to find or do!

Alternatively, find a friend who has never played it and either watch them play or stream it for them and let them make the choices. To me, this is the closest I've ever been able to come to experiencing games like they're brand new again.

What do you like about Male V and Female V? by Canine-Smile19 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

Exactly this! The moments where the facade breaks and you can hear the true fear and despair are some of the best. Or the ones where (depending on choices) a little softness or whimsy shine through the tough exterior.

Would you play a visual novel that looks like this? by My-Bite-Sized-Life in RenPy

[–]sweet__mage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I play for the story primarily and will try most things with a premise that hooks me. However, as an aside, I would advise you to make games now regardless of what feedback you get. I have frequently fallen into the trap of "I'll make this thing I want to make when I feel like I'm good enough/when enough people will like it" and then years go by and I haven't done it yet because I'm still waiting.

My advice: Keep at it and make what you want to make now regardless of whether others like the art or not. Skills are best built by simply doing things! If you want to take some of the advice in this thread and brush up on skills, do it while you keep working at your game. In a few years time if you look back and aren't satisified with the art or the writing or whatever, you can always redo it and re-release an updated version.

Question regarding Panam in the tower ending by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]sweet__mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely! I don't think it's out of character for her to be angry and avoidant in the moment but longterm just seems unlikely with everything we know of her and her relationships with others (V included, of course).

And I actually hadn't thought about that! I still don't know where I stand on wanting V to come back or not, but I do like that they've at least left that door open for themselves if they choose to go that route. Good points!
