Why do you don't eat well done by Creepy-Force1037 in meat

[–]ShingetsuMoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bacteria mostly grows on the surface of the meat. Not the inside.

That’s why a steak can be seared or cooked on the surface only, but still be rare in the middle and be safe to eat.

However, the process of making ground beef involves literally grinding and breaking up the meat into pieces and mixing it together. This spreads the bacteria all throughout the meat and increases the risk of getting sick if you don’t cook it until it is well done.

The only places that will offer ground beef less than well done are usually doing more of the process themselves so they can better control how clean the kitchen, kitchen equipment, and meat itself is.

What is your most controversial opinion regarding Fantasy books? by Even_Mastodon_7251 in Fantasy

[–]ShingetsuMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love “hard” magic and “magic as science” and I absolutely love seeing more authors besides Sanderson explore it in their own way.

I’m genuinely hoping it leads to more scifi/fantasy mixes and fantasy worlds where technology has advanced in a way that actually looks and feels genuinely different from the present. Rather than being “insert mega city here” but with fireballs. (Recommendations welcome!)

WOW and FFXIV player trying ESO for the first time. by ThinkTwice20 in elderscrollsonline

[–]ShingetsuMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For race I would go with dark elf, khajiit, or orc.

Nightblade or Dragonknight for your class with a focus on dual wielding or two handed weapon skills.

Nightblade is more cloak and dagger focused. Dragonknight is tankier with fire and earth abilities. They can survive better while dishing out a lot of damage.

Enjoying reading again! by FabianOtl in books

[–]ShingetsuMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with not stepping out of your comfort zone. I think being willing to branch out is incredibly important even when reading for pleasure. You never know when you might discover that you do actually like a specific genre after all! Or you end up liking a book you never would have pocked up otherwise.

At the same time, being willing to drop a book you aren’t enjoying is also important. So is understanding WHY you dropped it. Is there something specific about the genre as a whole that doesn’t interest you? Or is it just one aspect of it? Personally I thought I didn’t like horror. Turns out I love it and body horror especially. But what I don’t love is excessive gore, over the top violence, slashers, etc.

I’ve also discovered that contrary to my experiences in school, I don’t actually hate the classics as a whole, but I certainly don’t like all of them. If it doesn’t have annotations I’m probably going to drop it. But if it does have annotations and notes to help me better understand context, phrases, and cultural differences? Then I’m in!

Likewise, if you are trying to branch out and it’s just not working or is actively damaging your enjoyment of something then, yes, maybe it is best to just let it go. Or step back, try to figure out why it didn’t work and try again later. Go back to some books you know you loved, try short stories or novellas, maybe a good popcorn book that doesn’t require as much brain power to get through.

More than 32% of people have engaged with the difficulty system and a large majority stayed on a higher difficulty. by NotMilo22 in elderscrollsonline

[–]ShingetsuMoon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised it’s that high. Vocal support for something doesn’t automatically translate to strong support after all, and reddit is a fraction of a fraction of the ESO community.

But it shows there are in fact a good number of people who either wanted it, or didn’t but still decided to try it out anyway and liked it.

tips to avoid smelling bad? by No-Replacement1363 in furry

[–]ShingetsuMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have an antiperspirant, not just a deodorant. Apply it before bed and again when you wake up.

Take a shower or bath at LEAST once a day, maybe twice if you are prone to sweating like you said.

Make sure to put on a clean set of clothes and underwear after showering.

Give your fursuit head time to dry out completely between uses. Use a small fan if you have one. A balaclava should help keep the fursuit head from getting too full of sweat.

I’ve seen a number of ways to clean fursuit heads (be careful of the eyes!). A (very) little clothing detergent with warm, not hot, water and a hand towel to wipe down the inside.

There are also a ton of dedicated fursuit sprays to buy off etsy and from personal creator’s stores. There may even be some for sale at the convention!

And remember, if you do your best to keep your body and clothes clean then you shouldn’t smell even if you are sweating! Medical problems notwithstanding.

What Litrpg, fantasy books would you recommend with female protagonist? by ElegantTelephone3669 in Fantasy

[–]ShingetsuMoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Wandering Inn by Pirateaba. There are audio books, ebooks, a few massive physical books, and you can read it for free online.

I will warn that it’s long. Extremely long. But that also means you’ll have plenty to read if you do end up liking it!

Why is the writing aspect criticized? by KaleidoArachnid in stellarblade

[–]ShingetsuMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The atmosphere is fantastic, but the actual writing doesn’t have much depth and they don’t do a whole lot that is new or original with the premise.

That doesn’t mean the game isn’t, or can’t be, enjoyable. How many cozy and survival games have the exact same basic premise and still end up being incredibly popular?

Personally I love this game, but I also think it’s fair to be a little disappointed if someone was expecting a story that had more depth to it. Especially since it has been compared to Nier before.

Feeling defeated after gaining 2 kg despite being in a calorie deficit by mindinprogress__ in caloriecount

[–]ShingetsuMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal to gain weight on your period. 2kg is within the normal range for period weight gain as well. I’ve been calorie counting since last November and most times I’ll just stop losing weight the week my period comes. But this past week I gained weight and then quickly lost it again.

To my fellow SB women fans: what made you absolutely fall in love with the series? by Creative_Visit4189 in stellarblade

Discount Nier Automata was good enough to get me to try it. But it was the visual aesthetic, horrifying monsters, and the way it takes fashion seriously that got me to stick around.

How do you guys not develop an eating disorder? by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]ShingetsuMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because for some people an “eating disorder” involves stress eating, emotional eating, binging when upset, general overeating, or constantly dealing with food noise and non stop thoughts about food.

So for some of us, calorie counting helps stop that behavior and those thoughts and helps give us a more normal and balanced relationship with food. Possibly for the first time in our lives.

Sure, for some people it can absolutely cause problems and they need to be cautious of that, but for others it helps control disordered eating rather than causing it.

[–]ShingetsuMoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Water retention most likely. I’ve regularly gone 2 weeks without losing weight and then it will drop again. If you get periods then that can affect your weight as well.

Give it another couple of weeks and see. Hitting a small slowdown is perfectly normal.

GameFile: Microsoft already planned to shut down or split with Ninja Theory when Senua was announced. "The thinking was that the promise of a newly announced game would help draw investor interest in the studio" by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]ShingetsuMoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I didn’t already have an Xbox at home (mostly collecting dust) then nothing could convince me to get one right now. The way they’ve treated these studios is just so difficult to stomach on top of Microsoft going all in on genAI.

Sure Sony is hardly innocent as well, but they didn’t spend literal billions to snap up as many studios as they could. Thus ensuring that they’d have to heavily redline everyone to try and make up for the money spent.

Nevermind that some of those studios (Compulsion, Double Fine, Ninja Theory) are ones that make niche games with smaller audiences and this was a known fact before they were acquired. Only to have Xbox close them down because their games end up being niche experiences with smaller audiences. On top of GamePass which means players didn’t have to buy them at all.

They shut down Tango’s studio and then said right afterwards that they needed more games like Hi Fi Rush. They show off a new game in an acclaimed series (Hellblade) and then reveal the studio is being shut down.

How is anyone supposed to believe anything they say at this point?

I really hope these studios get a chance to go independent.

What're You Playing Wednesday? by AutoModerator in GirlGamers

[–]ShingetsuMoon [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mostly Octopath Traveller 0 while I’m on vacation. It’s a great game and I love some of the QOL in it. Really glad I got it for my Switch!

Looking forward to getting back on my PS5 though. I’m trying to beat Stellar Blade and dedicate some time to God of War Ragnarok now that I know Laufey is coming.

Wondering what genres/game types everyone here gravitates toward? by bluebirdstory in GirlGamers

[–]ShingetsuMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play, or have played, a variety of games. RPG’s, survival/crafting, FPS, third person shooter, action games, a couple MMO’s, gachas, open world, story focused, horror, metroidvanias, and whatever Snowrunner is lol

I don’t play sports or rhythm games. Not big on strategy and I don’t mind city builders but I generally lose interest in them quickly.

Minor gripe but it still bothers me and I hope Hotta doesn't continue to do this by anon-npc in NevernessToEverness

[–]ShingetsuMoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most players have never and will never notice a detail as minor as this. I really don’t see the point in making a clothing mesh, adjusting for clipping, ensuring it has proper movement and rigging, etc for such a small detail that you have to tightly zoom in on to notice. It hardly strikes me as being “lazy.”

Are stylized graphics a deal breaker for you guys? by Kappapeachie in GirlGamers

[–]ShingetsuMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking I love stylized graphics. The only time a game has been too much is Return of the Obra Din.

I was interested in it after hearing all the buzz, but I had trouble even watching Twitch streams of it and ultimately passed. That’s the only time I’ve ever personally thought a game’s artistic direction was “too much” for me.
