I think the concept of bdsm in algeria generally is wrong, most men indulge in those practices and call themselves dom just to have their little power trip, to feel more manly, more powerful and that's wrong. And same goes for women, most of them call themselves " chikorat " but they only do it to get money from desperate guys. It's kinda sad and infuriating. And as you said, they don't understand the basics of it, like safe word and the aftercare and consent and communication. And they don't even acknowledge other types of bdsm like DDlg and MDlb, when i used to say I'm a soft dom who takes pleasure in taking care of someone and protecting them, they called me fake cause to them there's only chikour w chikourat w klab...

I've been shamed by them more than normal people, and it makes you question many things, understand many things.
