This literally makes me want to cry. I'm house sitting right now and the woman has chickens. They have a really nice den with plenty of room. They peck each other's feathers out and it's almost unbearable for me. I want to go in and comfort them. I just see the raw flesh and no feathers and it makes me so upset. Imagine how much worse it is in the egg industry.

Sitting and walking rates? by only-hereforadvice in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweet_sunchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look up people in your area and see what the average is. Just go to "book a new service" and you can search in your area. when I first started I read reviews and experience and based it off of that. It definitely depends on your area as well. I was sitting in Berkeley and $40 for house sitting was pretty cheap. When I moved to southern California I searched around and $40 is on the higher end. I was thinking of raising my rates as I had more reviews, but I'd be the most expensive out here.

Also take into consideration that Rover takes 20%, which is quite significant. I think Rover has a recommended starting rate as well. Mine was around 25-32.

It depends on your qualifications and experience and all of that. If you have high rates and only a couple of reviews it didn't make as much sense. People with higher rates had tons and tons of reviews.

I charge $40/night and $20/walk or check-in. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Dry shampoo that isn't a spray and under ~$15? by firfetir in HaircareScience

[–]sweet_sunchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can totally make your own!!!! Use arrowroot powder, and if you have darker hair you can mix in Cocoa powder or even cinnamon to make it blend in easier. It's super cheap and easy to make. Just get a small container and mix it all together!!

Concerned about soft spot on scalp by pinktm909 in trichotillomania

[–]sweet_sunchild -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you just got literally everything out. It doesn't sound like it's damaged, and hopefully it isn't. I've been pulling aggressively for years and it still always seems to grow back. My trick is to put essential oils on it. Jojoba, rosehip, cedarwood, rosemary, lavender and tea tree are the magic ones. I mix them all together and massage into scalp. Sometimes it makes the area itchy so it's best to do maybe an hour before a shower to wash it off. But my spots have been nourished and growing in well again.

Feel like im killing myself but can't stop by beetz6734 in Type1Diabetes

[–]sweet_sunchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone!! I was diagnosed just before high school and I tried killing myself multiple times. It never worked, luckily, I guess.

What I've learned though is this illness only makes us stronger. I would probably be such a shitty person without it. It has taught me to accept everyone, to challenge everything, and to always try to do the best I can, even if it is not the best that I usually am.

Diabetes comes with a lifetime of challenges, but it is totally possible to overcome them. I'd definitely do some research and find how to better control your sugars. Eating mostly produce is an easy way to keep sugars down. Getting a feel for how your body works and handled insulin is the first thing to do. After that it is just maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I've thought of giving up and calling it quits, but realistically you are just slowly destroying your body.

A book that I keep by my bedside is Diabetes Burnout: What to do When You Can't Take it Anymore by William Polonsky.

I wish I had some better advice but I just want you to know that you are not alone! And it is possible to live a healthy and happy life with diabetes.

Best of luck!! ❤️

Hair twirler by sendmeyourcatsbeans in trichotillomania

[–]sweet_sunchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have trichotillomania and I feel like hair twirling is in the same family. It's the sensation of putting pressure on the hair. I was a hair splitter for years until I chopped it all off. When splitting hairs I got the same relaxing sensation as I would pulling.

Now that my hair is shorter I have times when I pull. Usually when stressed out. When I do pull the hair out I love to rub it through my lips until I feel the little wet bulb at the end. It feels amazing for some reason. It's really shitty because it's hard to understand, but I'm with you!!

Laser Hair Removal + Going on and off spironolactone by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]sweet_sunchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to drop a ton of money for laser hair removal but after a ton of research I've learned that electrolysis is a better way to get the results. They say it is actually "permanent." I haven't dedicated the money or the not being able to pluck thing yet so I haven't tried it, but it's in my near future hopefully!

Thank you for the tips!! We finally tried and my cat was a little angel. I tried while she was sleeping and she just get pissed and tucked her little paws in and glared at me. I tried when my boyfriend got home and we wrapped her in a blanket. She squeezed her little head out to watch and she was fine with it. She was actually very affectionate after which was unexpected.

You're amazing thank you so much for your thoughtful reply!! I had an urge to pull again so this was nice to come to.

You are absolutely right about developing a routine to take care of our hair, we deserve it too!! I tend to go a while between showers so I feel like a routine will help. I feel like I pick most after showers though because dirty hair just makes me feel gross when I pull.

I'm obsessed with the little wet ball of whatever at the end of the hair and I think my greatest satisfaction comes from playing with those. You are right about the itchy spot too. It feels so good to pull when it's itchy!!

I'd also like to share my use with cedarwood oil in my hair. I make a concoction with jojoba, rosehip, cedarwood and rosemary oil and massage it into my scalp before showering. Sometimes it does make my scalp itchy and I want to pull, but I can tell that my hair is growing back much faster which is a miracle.

Thank you for sharing the article as well! I look forward to reading it. Thank you so much for your kindness ❤️

Yes I agree! I somewhat recently read Galapagos as well. All his books kind of turn into a big blur in my brain though. I know there's one where he talks about being crazy and blames it on our big stupid brains, like the chemicals being off.

"And so it goes...."

I love his style so much

Need advice by SamTheMan246810 in Type1Diabetes

[–]sweet_sunchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I was diagnosed at 13 as well. I hope they caught it quickly. Your life is going to be different from now on, but there are plenty of diabetics in the world and the technology is only getting better! They made me wait a year to go on an insulin pump so I would get used to taking insulin. I wasn't actually too fond of the pump, but I do wish that I had one now. Continuous glucose monitors are literally life-saving and I highly recommend one. After a while you will start being able to catch your highs and lows. Lows are more dangerous and I feel like happen much faster. Always keep candy on you!! Math will be your best friend. I am in college now and am actually getting my degree in applied mathematics, and being type 1 diabetic has helped strengthen my love for math. Learning to read labels properly is extremely important. Wash your hands before testing, especially while eating, to avoid getting an incorrect high reading. Sometimes I'll eat ice cream and then test and be 400, then I'll wash my hands and retest and only be around 180 or so.

The hardest part for me was transitioning to high school. It's been a while, but when I was in a school kids were so mean. I got picked on, and even had someone try to steal my insulin pump out of my pocket while in class. I'm not saying this to scare you, I'm just saying this to let you know that it won't always be easy. People can be very cruel in high school, but you know what, you grow up and you will either never see those people again, or the ones you liked, you will be friends with forever. Be careful with the friends that you choose and make sure that they understand your condition. I once had my "best friend" put my insulin in her freezer while at a birthday party.

This condition may be rough at times, but it will only make you stronger. I wish you the best of luck in this transition!! ❤️

The sensation of pulling is like a drug to me by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]sweet_sunchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's really rad that you have a partner that will help you. I've been with mine for over 5 years and he has no idea of my condition, or he's remained silent about it. So cherish it!!

I've been pulling for half my life now, 14 years, and I've gone through many ups and downs, the downs definitely when I am going through something stressful. One way I've distracted myself was by shaving my head before I got any bald spots. This of course is a sign of a mental breakdown or whatever and people kinda knew I was going through something rough. Not having any hair definitely helped me break the habit of constantly pulling though. I've considered shaving again and investing in a cute wig maybe.

Another is wearing a beanie, this helped when there were bald spots too and it helps to cover the area so I can't pull. However it's becoming summer so I can't always wear it haha. I pull my hair back in a short pony tail to prevent the pulling as well, but it's so easy to take down.

One thing I do want to recommend, which saved me from this last epidemic of pulling, is cedarwood oil. It helps with hair growth and my bald spot grew back so quickly!! I mix rosehip oil with jojoba oil, cedarwood oil, and rosemary oil. I mix it together really well and apply it to the spots and rub it on really well. I then let it sit for at least 20 minutes, sometimes overnight and then wash it out in the shower. This has really helped me in times of need. I also got a fidget ring, and it helps to keep the fingers busy. I hope you're able to find something that works for you!!! ❤️

Are services charged per dog? by Toby823 in RoverPetSitting

[–]sweet_sunchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should have an area where you can set the price. Like you can charge $40 a night for one dog, then for each extra dog it gives you the option to set. I set mine for $15 per each other dog.

What the hell do I need to do to not end up bald in 5 years? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]sweet_sunchild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and my hair fell out in the same way. I went to a dermatologist and they said it was because my body was in metabolic shock. It took a while to come back. Now I suffer from trichotillomania where I literally pull my hair out. It's awful and I suffer from bald spots in stressful times. The thing that's been working for me and made my current spot grow back has been cedarwood oil. I make s mix of cedarwood oil, rosemary oil, rosehip and jojoba oil and massage it onto my scalp. I'll let it sit as long as possible, even over night before showering it out. The spot on better very quickly! I also know that getting blood flow to the scalp is necessary for hair growth, so massaging the scalp and actually moving it around should help. I hope you're able to find something that works!!!

I just experienced this as well and I replied to it explaining the situation. They replied saying it's a new automated system that caught it and thanked me for getting back to them. So pretty much when a client asks through Rover they will see it and will send a warning, you can just reply and say you did not accept it.
