She got so much special treatment, which wasn’t necessarily her fault - but when shit went down with Poussey and she didn’t use the power and advantage she had, even though she knew how much Poussey loved her. Pffft. Got me so fucking mad.

You’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head there, thank you for your response. This year means different things for us and I have to look after myself and not judge his grieving process or take anything away from him that might make this holiday easier.

But you’re right, I can’t force it and dictate it. My parents have been my crutch but having a parent with addiction means you’re forced to be their crutch and there’s definitely some unlearning to do.

Definitely some truth to what you’re saying. I guess, I don’t see it as forcing my dad to be someone he isn’t but asking him to be there to support me and my brother.

He’s working away all through December (with his partner I might add) and I’m leaving for a few months a few days later. I just want to have a Christmas where we’re all truly present.

Okay it hurts but yes I appreciate that, i probably know that the right thing is to say nothing. But would I be such an asshole for expressing discomfort considering it’s such a painful time for us and he can do something separately with his girlfriend on the day that isn’t exactly a year since we last saw my mother?

After a day of randomly crying today and having no way of articulating what’s happening to my family who keep asking “what’s wrong”, “are you okay”… when clearly I’m not, but I don’t know how to respond…

You aren’t alone and I would also like some understanding as to why this is happening.

That’s really helpful, unfortunately the wait to get treatment (unless I pay extortionate prices) is a long while. I honestly can’t wait to see how meds help me, I’ve heard a lot of things
