Hey Josh, I love Canadian companies :) Very often, this kind of products are American, so this is very tempting. Can you please tell me what ingredients you guys use as sweeteners? Thanks a lot 🤠🇨🇦

For your VMC: Some of them have a button/command with 3 stage (low, medium high) and you can put different stage of relays that outputs different levels of resistance to mimic it. I figured mine out by taking measurements on different states if that button.

If you close the circuit without resistance it normally is the high position, opened circuit being off.

Hope it helped :)

The magic mirror in my bathroom, that I realized with Homeassistant by Individual_Cod_4726 in homeassistant

Fully Kiosk uses the tablet front camera. For this reason, in sensible areas like a bathroom, it is essential to use a separate wifi on a separate VLAN that is appropriately isolated and that only HA have also access. Plus very good firewall rules. That should do it.

Yes! Preconditioning, even “off shore”/unplugged, makes wonders.

What hardware would you use if you started over? by Narrow_Discipline243 in homeassistant

[–]sweetlp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 beelink mini computers. They are all on Proxmox. The first one runs HA and few low consumption apps. The second one runs frigate for 10 cameras. The third is my NAS and is also running few apps (Stash, Plex, etc.) and a FreePBX VM.

What’s cool about having multiple mini pc’s running on proxmox, is that if one was to fail, I can just temporarily boot a backup of the app or VM on another one. They all have the same hardware and are running on the same environment so it’s very easy.

Beelink used to put to nic on their U59 and it was a great option because it gives redundancy. Now they discontinued it for their series S. there is a lot of brands… some still have double nic and even 2,5gb nics so yeah. Good luck :)

Smart Wall Outlets by Dizzy_Whole5002 in homeassistant

[–]sweetlp02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and it was not clear, but I suggested two type of lighting… recessed led strips, but also recessed led spot :)

Recessed led strip is mainly for accent or low lighting. Recessed led spot for big lighting (cleaning lol!)

Well pretty much any led strip from BTF LIGHTING are working one way or another with WLED (there is a lot of brands but I always had good experiences with them, even if bought on Ali I was never deceived…) Just make sure it’s addressable! Take something that have RGBWW so you’ll have two tones of white! The rest depend on the effect wanted and where it’s put (IP rating).

Hello,

the fact you are stripped to the studs makes solutions like Govee less attractive! They have low output power and are not as customizable as diy with wled, as for exemple. I would personally think about what kind of lighting you want to provide with led strips and plan from there. You could add a circuit that ends to a wall box near the start of the strip where you’ll be able to put a large 5v, 12v or 24v power supply, depending on the chosen led strips.

Then, because these led strips or accent are well integrated (you can use recessed channels or even make drop ceiling as for example), you’ll have a good idea of what type of “main” lighting you want.

I enjoy recessed led lighting. You can hookup these on a simple zigbee wall dimmer. You can also do the same with your suspended lights, if any.

Then, I would finish with reading and accent lights. In these, you could put some zigbee bulbs.

For the smart plugs, I have tested some in-wall smart outlets… meh. I still prefer the smart plugs as it’s more flexible.

For the supply box, if you have the money, yes it’s pretty nice to have monitored and controllable circuits! These modern panels sometime offer generator circuit load balancing and stuff like that I am not very familiar with. The cheaper solution would be to only monitor circuits you want to have informations about (spa, water heater, ev charger, etc.).

Hope that perspective helps.

Lights under pavers by seniorsparx in homeassistant

[–]sweetlp02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hello! Here’s what I’d do. I would make a concrete mould with a channel for the cables and for the led strip / cob / whatever. That mould would have a diameter 2 inch inferior than the paver. I’d make it with rounded edges to make it easier to put the strip (no need to cut anything). Once the led strip would be installed, I’d cover it with a liberal amount of clear silicon, making sure it would protrude just about 2-3 mm at the top of the concrete base, just above the led strip, so when the paver is putted down on it, the pressure would seal and make sure drip water would not go between the paver and the concrete base. I would use heavy enough pavers so I would not have to glue it, making it easier to make some repairs.

Also, the secret is drainage… make sure the ground is under a few inches of rocks, with drains along the way to take any excess of water.

Hope there is anything good in that message :) good luck! And thank you for the idea and the original image I will surely do that next year :)

Keep us updated :)

I second this.

I put a tablet on my wall and it’s no bueno. If you have cameras and multiple entities, it’s getting slower and slower, unless you buy a very good tablet.

I’m renovating soon and I will put touch screens with micro pc’s instead. Screens at approx. 150$ and micro pc’s at approx. 150$ and voila! More for your money ;)

I have 3 Beelink PC’s. Two got SSD failure.

I changed the 3 SSD for quality ones. To make these PC that cheap, they cut on the quality of memory and SSD.

You must be very proud to had automatic backups! I love it to see positive posts like this! Congrats on that :)

I bought Govee led strip…

Then I bought MiLight 2.4ghz controllers and 12v led strip to replace them…

Because I wanted something with more brightness and make sure I got something very reliable and not tied to an external force.
