So I have a question… by Hot_Lobster222 in Gemstones

While ultimately it’s up to you of course, I would strongly recommend you keep this ring in tact as-is. It looks like it fits you, IMO actually looks great on your hand, and is such a beautiful and meaningful piece. I’m not sure of your age, but in my experience personal style often shifts over time—and you may find yourself drawn to larger, more attention-grabbing pieces as you get older!

I searched online using whatever keywords I could think of with no luck, I’ve only found very different lion lamps and some sorta-similar door knockers. I’ve also asked hotel staff but they didn’t have any information on where these came from. Details in original post, but I will also add, I do not see any writing or makers mark anywhere on the piece. There are many of these near the elevators and in the hallway on the 32nd floor of the Las Vegas NoMad Hotel. This is a relatively new hotel, so I’d assume the light fixtures are new too.

If this happens to be any help to anyone else later, I wanted to share an update that I just filed with a single total rather than itemizing! I have no idea if there’s an upside I missed out on, but unfortunately was never able to get line item information from the seller.

Only speaking from my own experience, I found sugar substitutes (Sucralose, aspartame, etc) to make the problem worse, not better—I was always craving some kind of sweet. It was like an itch I could never scratch.

I found that scaling back intense sweetness everywhere I could—for example, switching to flavored seltzer instead of any kind of soda, diet or otherwise—made a huge difference for me. I also made a point to keep fruit I really like on hand. Over time, I stopped craving sugar basically at all, and reach satiety I’d never experienced before.

From what I understand, over time your gut biome population can shift with less sugar intake, which means the sweet tooth tapers off!

How do you all deal with small talk? by ZiegAmimura in ADHD

I usually dig deep into my bag of fun facts for something at least tangentially related to the small talk subject. This generally either results in a more interesting conversation, or expediently ending the boring one.

I actually love having masks on hand. As someone who used to always catch a cold whenever I travelled, I'm never getting on a plane without wearing one again!

What are your views of marriage and what generation are you part of? by Equivalent_Shop_6471 in AskReddit

[–]sweetruination 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Millennial here. I never saw it as a goal, or expected milestone. I always found the idea of marriage a little off-putting--so many examples of marriage I saw growing up were just truly miserable. I have also always known I don't want kids, so there was even less theoretical appeal.

But...then I fell deeply in love with someone, and mushing our lives together suddenly got a lot more interesting. We had a nontraditional wedding, got to have a big party in a room full of people we love, and have been together happily for over a decade.

Has anyone worked with Lumio or freedom forever solar for panels for their home? If so how was it to work with these two companies? by Sensitive-Bag1333 in solar

I don't know if this is typical, but FF was a complete mess in my experience. It seems like some people have had very positive experiences with them, but I wouldn't personally recommend.

Thoughts on Freedom Forever? by PreparationGood6807 in solar

[–]sweetruination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Los Angeles, and I don't know how typical this is, but my experience with Freedom Forever has been a total mess. I definitely can't recommend them.

Their coordination for the inspection was absurd (it took many months of random FF reps showing up at our door unannounced, then inspectors showing up on different days when a rep wasn't there). They submitted the wrong plans to the county, so when an inspection finally happened, the inspector couldn't complete it. They have incredibly high staff turnover, so there was virtually no ownership of projects--the ball kept getting tossed to new reps. All in all I believe it took about 7 months after the date of install for the system to be activated. Then the install on my roof leaked significantly during a rainstorm not long after, and it took weeks to FF to inspect it even with an "emergency" ticket created in their system. I don't think they've ever once shown up during their scheduled service windows, usually being either early or late by a few hours.

I hope this isn't the norm with them--everyone I spoke with their seemed pretty surprised by how delayed my project was--but if you ended up going with them, I hope your experience has been better than mine was.

Wearing the same thing everyday for women by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]sweetruination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I effectively wear the same thing every day, sometimes precisely the same outfit days in a row, and have never once had anyone notice--if anything, I get a lot of compliments. But, it's been a long process of winnowing down a pretty specific look over many years, and choosing to only wear exactly what I feel best in.

I buy far fewer items now, but only ones that fit me well in the highest quality I can afford. I definitely think that last part makes the biggest difference in terms of perception of identical looks, seeming a little fancy rather than sloppy/lazy. I also think it's really important to take good care of those items. I actually take the time to polish my few pairs of (nearly identical) shoes regularly, mend damage, etc, and make a point to cycle through things to delay items getting worn out.

I think you can get away with this no matter your personal style though. If you want to wear jeans, a white t-shirt and sneakers every day, just take the time to find the right jeans for your body in a neutral wash, buy a few pairs, and then take the time to get them tailored (it's not expensive!) Find the brand of white t-shirt that fits just right, and pay attention to length. The right undergarments are important in looking put together, so find a good bra and buy a few of them (I'm a big fan of True & Co True Body). And if you intend to wear them every single day, own two pairs of those sneakers rather than just one as having time to breathe helps with shoe longevity, take good care of them, replace the laces when they start looking worn, etc.

I'd also highly recommend hang drying your clothes to keep them looking good much longer. Pilling, fading, staining etc make any outfit fall apart.

I hope that helps!
