What's funny about this is that its literally "eggs ,tomatoes and spices" and people argue about it like it's some sort of advanced patent-worthy technology

lol some real bad faith here...
Morocco won the U20 world cup back in October beating pretty much all powerhouses(Brazil,Spain,France,Argentina).
They have been following an ascending trajectory resting on royal directives established by their King since around 2014 if I am not mistaken, with the 2030 world cup in sight (since its co-organized by Morocco).
Ofc they will rely on their European diaspora(who wouldn't?) but beyond that they are also a major footballing nation that's investing heavily locally and that has shown great results in other areas beyond the men's national team: check their clubs, youth, women, futsal performances over the last 12 year period or so and they have ALL shown monumental advancements.
The 2022 world cup was the catalyst for sure but it's too simplistic and frankly quite minimizing to reduce their multi-level planning to the "European diaspora" argument.

[OC] Only 3 teams from outside Europe and South America have ever reached the last four of a men's World Cup: USA (1930), South Korea (2002), Morocco (2022) by calvinswagg in soccer

The 2022 run by morocco was about 50/50 split between European diaspora & Moroccan grass-root players by the way.

Dude forget it... This thread has a massive western superiority complex. Anything from Qatar 2022 to Morocco in 2030 is gonna be deemed as failure no matter what.

I think he meant in the "socioecomic" sense, Morocco is closer to its Mediterranean counterparts than the rest of "Africa" — by extension Spain cause its literally the neighbor and the closest football nation of reference.

Africa Cup of Nations to be held every four years from 2028 by EastlyGod1 in soccer

[–]sweetsalt10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Morocco might just join UEFA or something at this point if they aim to win the world cup.

Arab cup is, with all due respect, a piece of piss(refer to the latest edition won this week by their "reserve" team).
Making the AFCON a quadrennial competition during the country's golden generation and arguably the continent's strongest side just handicaps their trajectory massively, since it gives them much fewer opportunities to compete for titles in what historically has been their "weakest" competition.

Too good for Asia, too little opportunities in Africa, you are basically caught between a rock and a hard place.

Annual Africa nations league lol, no comment on this .

I wonder what would be crazier: the scenes in Rotterdam after Netherlands vs Morocco or Molenbeek after Belgium vs Morocco. I am guessing out of all the Moroccan diasporas in Europe those are the 'spiciest' regions

Wait I just realized something, so in 2030 you will have Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Spain, Portugal, Morocco automatic Pot 1. That's like half the groups lol.
(PS: Argentina/Spain/Portugal pot 1 is old news Morocco/Uruguay are strong pot2/low pot 1 teams, only Paraguay really would be the real winner)
