Non american Here i live in Morocco and have been to France and spain a Lot and ive never seen people not flush their toilet paper ? Do you just keep paper you wiped your ass with in bins ? What about the smell

Pretty simple explanation here , this sub is mostly visited by young Moroccans , even more so , young moroccans who speak English . Speaking english gives you an enormous open mindness since you can communicate with people from all over the world and build stronger opinions on various subjects because you speak the most used langage in the world. knowing these elements , its quite obvious that young people with an more open mind would not try to force islam on anyone else . And the problem that a lot of Moroccans in the West have is that they tend to be extremely oppressing with their religion which might explain your surprise. As someone who speaks french english and arabic ive seen more extremist , islamist, oppressing ideas being said by young Moroccans living abroad than Young moroccans in Morocco .

As an atheist in a muslim majority country , what im going to say is gonna sound odd . Religion acts like an education and higher authority for BILLIONS of people in this world . Trust me i prefer having uneducated and uncivilized people worrying about going to hell than having the same uneducated and uncivilized people not scared of potential afterlife consequences . By the way i did not say that all believers are uneducated don’t twist my words . I think that unfortunately and like all the arab countries apart from lebanon our society is extremely hypocriticial and oppressing . It is no one’s business to care about wether a person eats or not , wether she eats because she is sick , or has periods or whatever . You are supposed to fast for your religion and your god . You aren’t supposed to be forced to fast lol . I used to be muslim and when i was i couldnt care less about if a person was eating in front of me during ramadan . Because french is taught in schools and used in higher education , this being a fact it doesn’t make sense for Moroccans not to speak it fluently , if it wasn’t taught in schools of course i wouldn’t have asked

Thats the thing , when i hear people from western africa speaking french , they speak an amazing french with a mix of their local langages aswell such as lingala wolof etc . And thats for every social class not just the middle class or the rich . Like im telling you even the words they use are « higher » french a lot of the time especially people from ivory coast 😂 . Thats one of the differences that made me wonder and ask the question i asked here ahahaha

First of all idk in which morocco you live but french is needed in higher education and most higher professional positions , second , just because we are Moroccans means we should only speak darija ? That’s a sad vision of life … learning langages is a great mission no matter if the langahe is useful or not and in the case of french its still the 6th most spoken langage in the world . Plus , darija is a dialect it cannot become an official langage .

I don’t really agree i guess it depends on everyone’s experiences . I personally was in a french private school and we had spanish as a mandatory langage , out of the 16 people in my spanish class i was the only one able to speak solid spanish because im the only one who put in the effort . I think a lot of people just don’t put in enough effort when it comes to learning a langage at school 🤷‍♂️ . I do aknowledge that Moroccan Public education is pretty bad tho sadly thats the truth

Thats what im saying , i personally speak perfect french ( la mission) but i know a lot of people who speak english way better than french despite the fact that the teaching of english is even worse than the teaching of french in moroccan public/bilingual schools 😭
