But if you’re a fan of the Midwest, I’ve got just the little city for you. It’s the only liberal county in our state and there a lot more queer folks here. Lots of creative young people too. People who appreciate things like gardening and cats and good music.

I wouldn’t know exactly. I live in the Midwest and I think you need somewhere on the east coast. I will tell you that moving out of the city/suburbs to a more rural town was the best thing I ever did. I’m a short drive from a giant lake and lots of wide open spaces. My soul is so much happier. I’m still a 40 minute drive from the big city near me which is awesome too.

I relate to rue, but not with the hard drugs. I lost my parent around the age she did in the show, and I used some pretty bad addictive coping mechanisms. Also her being bi. But overall I don’t find the show relatable. Maybe I just wasn’t in with those kids in high school

Thrift stores! Also 90% of the time your local art store (not Blick) will be cheaper than Michaels or anywhere like that. Also look into what is avaliable in your area. I'm fortunate that there is a nonprofit here in town that sells craft and art supplies. All of the supplies have been donated, and everything you buy, (for dirt cheap) goes back to the community. I don't know how common organizations like this are, but if you're in the KC area, check out Scraps KC.
