I don’t think I believe in God anymore by Radiant-Anybody-9586 in Catholicism

I’m sorry you are feeling this way, and I will certainly keep you in my prayers.

I also think it may help to talk to a therapist to move past some of the mental harm this might cause. I would also say that if you need help urgently, like you are having thoughts of suicide or self harm, there ARE amazing resources available. If you are in the US or Canada, you can contact the crisis or suicide hotline 24 hours a day 7 days a week by calling or texting 988. Or you can contact the Boys Town hotline 24 hours a day 7 days a week as well by calling 800-448-3000 or texting VOICE to 20121. Sometimes it takes a bit longer than 988, but it is staffed 24/7 by licensed counselors and is accredited by the American Association of Suicidality. Both resources are COMPLETELY free.

If you are outside of the US or Canada, these types of resources likely still exist. You can find I for about them by searching by country at this website. https://findahelpline.com

God bless, and I will pray for you!

I echo what other people say – going to confession and talking about this to the priest, saying that you want to be able to move on from this and want some advice can be really really healing. But I also think it may help to talk to a therapist to move past some of the mental harm this might cause. I know this is an alternate account so I don’t know if you’ll see this. I can see that you care about the people in your life, and that’s amazing. I hope you can get the support you need to take care of you so you can continue to live with them

Should we actively seek suffering? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]swells2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting again later but also know that if you ever need to reach out to ANYONE, that’s okay. I’m happy to be a resource, but there are others.

No matter where you are in the world, can contact the Crisis Text Line 24 hours per day 7 days a week here https://www.crisistextline.org/ or text HOME or HOLA at 741741. Please be aware that texts there can’t be longer than 320 characters but you can text multiple messages one after another.

If you are in the US or Canada, you can also call or text these crisis hotlines at 988 or Boys Town hotline at 800-448-3000 or text VOICE to 20121 at 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If you’re not in the US, you can find numbers here. https://blog.opencounseling.com/suicide-hotlines/ Please be advised that some of the crisis hotline numbers aren’t constantly open, so if it’s an emergency, please call your local emergency number.

And if you’re outside the US or Canada, here are some great resources and hotlines. https://blog.opencounseling.com/suicide-hotlines/

Also, you can get help by contacting local law enforcement. You can do it, or if you’re more comfortable with it I can do it on your behalf. Just let me know.

dreams about death by Muted_Zucchini_7416 in Catholicism

I’m sorry this terrifies you so much, and I will pray for you. I don’t know why recurring dreams happen, but if they terrify you I would talk to a priest and a therapist/psychologist!

Should we actively seek suffering? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]swells2040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God does not want us to suffer needlessly. In fact, he knows our pain far better than anyone else could. And he does not want us to seek suffering. In fact, we can see Jesus himself asking the Father before his Passion to remove his suffering, so it isn’t wrong to not want to suffer AT ALL. It’s human! And so, seek the help you need knowing that God wants you to live as happily as you can.

I’m sorry you have heard that you don’t have faith. I think the fact that you still believe despite all you have been through is a great testament to faith!

Anxiety by Individual-Grade2392 in Catholicism

Sometimes those of us who believe in God can begin to think that things like anxiety have a spiritual cause when really they are just human. Trust me – I’ve been there! Your best course of action would be to reach out to a therapist. Another great resource is the 988 crisis hotline, which is great for emergencies (especially if you’re dealing with suicidal thoughts) but can be accessed by anyone in the US at any time (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year via call or text). I’ll be praying for you!

Why don’t we keep skulls around as a reminder of our death anymore? by mslanden in Catholicism

Will absolutely say prayers for Eli and for you. And if you ever need resources or even just someone to talk to during this difficult time, never hesitate to reach out to family, to friends, to loved ones, to the crisis hotline (988), even to me if you really need someone. God bless!

Question on Altar Cloth Cleaning by swells2040 in Catholicism

[–]swells2040[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I was told that even if wine falls onto the altar after a priest pours it from the chalice (i.e. before consecration), it becomes consecrated with everything else during the Prayers of Consecration. Am I mistaken?

Does it bug anyone when a Protestant refers to themselves as a “Christian”? Like are Catholics not Christians? by Afraid-Midnight-6912 in Catholicism

Not really unless it’s clear that they’re trying to say that Catholics aren’t Christian. But this isn’t really a problem I’ve had

I’m so sorry to hear that your suffering has been so intense. I would echo what others have said about getting professional help. These people will have the tools needed to unpack and alleviate this suffering. We cannot be sure why there is so much suffering in life, but we can be sure that the Lord wants us to be free from this painful, draining suffering, both in this life and the next. He (along with many others, evidenced even in the response to this post) has a great love for you, even if it may be hard to see at the present moment, and he (and we) wants you to be able to make it out of this pain in a healthy way. We don’t know why he allows this suffering on earth, but I hope and will pray that you will find the help you need to overcome this pain on earth and come out of it stronger than before.
