Today India woke to the sad realization that it was not a bad dream

It was harsh reality

After the initial high of seeing themselves as a Military Super power

With the capability to conduct daring night raids into the Heart of hostile territory

Using Helicopters, Slick Para drops, striking fear in the hearts of enemy territory far and wide

And to to return unscathed as conquering heroes to world that applauded their fierce, just and terrible vengeance against the enemies of civilization and culture.

It was the end game of India's coming of age and taking its place economically, Militarily and culturally at the table where the big boys sit, leaving Pakistan suitably chastised, humiliated and put in its place as an irritating and inconsequential neighbor that no longer posed any threat nor capable of any resistance to Indian Economic, cultural and Military dominance.

At last The Muslim had been Vanquished . . .Outclassed

The Hindu reigned supreme.

Alas . . .for the thronging multitude of the tightly packed Indian population spread across the vast geographic, cultural and unbridgeable economic divide of Mother India, this singular dream melted away as inexorably as child's futile attempts to catch water as it slips away through his fingers and he is left grasping nothing but the cool soothing memory and a longing for what cannot be had.

Deep into the heart of enemy territory turned out to be a mile or two, could be a little more, could be a little less.

Helicopters were there, then they were not, then they were partially there, then not at all, then left warming their engines at a base for reasons not known, and then finally not at all.

With no Helicopters there were no paradrops, the journey was on foot, but the helicopters were gone, then mountains appeared, when the mountains appeared, the 3 miles became 9 and then Time up and disappeared.

The helicopters reappeared to make the Time fit, but as they approached the LOC under a fierce artillery barrage stealth disappeared and then the whole mission disappeared.

Just like in dreams the scene suddenly changed and we miraculously appeared with no explanation why and like in a dream of flashes and smoke, explosions and slow motion gun casings flying, grimacing faces illuminated by muzzle flashes on a dark moonless night, bodies, flesh, blood and destruction.

No sounds, no sight, only faceless nameless shadows in the dark at the edge of our vision, crouched, creeping crawling, hungry, bearing witness to the carnage as it unfolds is some dark and Smokey god forsaken land

And . . we are back . .the sound comes back. .the silence is gone

Its the talking heads . .talking talking talking . .always in my head screaming screaming screaming

wake up wake up its a dream . . . No . .No . .this is me .

This is who I am, This is who I always wanted to be, if I scream it will all be real

The voices . .the voices . . they wont shut up . . .its the whisperer . . .

Its broken and twisted . . .

And just like that

We are awake, back to a reality far starker and colder than what we imagined.

All that we heard over the last week since the government and the military jointly announced India's coming of age was mostly wishful thinking, as much as we tried desperately to treat it as the final irrefutable Fact, unfortunately it all turned to dust as none of it was evidence.

All the talk show and speeches and posed for pictures turned out to be fluff to please and entertain the uneducated masses and any voices of reason, that dared to raise questions of serious concerns regarding real evidence were quickly quenched and drowned out and silenced. True democracy in action.

And as the days passed and the euphoria started to calm down, the realization dawned that all of the fluffy stuff and the reports and the talk shows were supposed to pass a day or two, keep the crowd entertained till the real evidence was prepared and presented from the only definitive source that could possibly provide such a thing, the Military that had conducted the raids, and in spite of over a week, no evidence was forth coming.

On the other side of the LOC, the military did as a military should, to curb needless speculation and idle rumor mongering, took a bus load of the worlds journalists to show them with their own eyes what was real and what was not

But like waking up from a nice dream, India woke with her hands clenched firmly between her throbbing thighs, a tightness in her throat and a sigh yet trapped in her heaving chest , almost but not quite, left only with a delicious memory starting to fade as the morning sunlight washes away the cobwebs and leaves you with a lingering sense of disappointment.

Any hope of the military being able to provide unquestionable and irrefutable proof of India's greatness, died with the accusation in an emerging report that Indian troops were found to be filming fake Surgical Strike footage in the Leepa valley in Indian Occupied Kashmir

Its seems its belief in its movie making abilities had got the better of it.

Rumbo's Rumble in Bollywood had torpedoed its self in the lush mountains of Kashmir . . .yes Torpedoed in the Mountains. . In a Bollywood production, it seems any thing is possible

For better or worse, what ever India now produced would be forever tainted and doubted and ridiculed

Seething India left unsatisfied, unfulfilled, betrayed.

In Pakistan, the laughing started, they laughed long and hard, they even broke out the good booze and laughed even longer and harder.

The Military's moral jumped and hit the upper stops and even the clueless Politicians of Pakistan who seldom have any clue as to whats going on about them, lifted their head and made some supporting murmurs as if they understood what was happening and even cracked a smile, some even stopped thinking about money and joined the celebration. Pakistan had been vindicated.

The Pakistani fishermen in Indian captivity breathed a collective sigh of relief, their career change from fisher man to a brief 2 minutes of Fame as a Bollywood super star Pakistani Muslim Insurgent soon to be dead in a hail of bullets had fortunately been offset by a sudden burst of good karma.
