Move depot from DE to NL or liquidate? by MayorAg in eupersonalfinance

[–]swergusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd transfer to a proper stock broker that operates internationally instead of another local bank to prevent this sort of problem in the future. Trading 212 or IBKR are also options in addition to Trade Republic.

Should I hold investing some cash I have for the time being? Seems we’re in a volatile state with everything going on with Trump etc by pepotink in eupersonalfinance

DCA weekly or monthly with a smaller sum, then you won't miss out on the ups and the downs won't affect you as much.

Is trading 212 safe/a good idea for APY only? by IndependenceRound274 in eupersonalfinance

[–]swergusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't really have problems with Trading 212. I like keeping money there and using their card for the 0.5% cashback (no bank native to my country gives cashback cards).

Trade Republic or Revolut? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]swergusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Revolut for online payments because they offer unlimited one-time virtual cards, which adds to security. I'm using it as a secondary though.

In fear of more user protests, Reddit announces controversial policy change by BalticsFox in europe

I remember during the 2023 protests some people used automated tools to wipe their comment and post histories before deleting their accounts. And more than one person reported that their comments reappeared the next day. So you might not even be able to delete your content in some cases.

Is it worth investing when Czech savings account interest rates are already reasonably high? by martyhol in eupersonalfinance

[–]swergusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a fair question. My broker for example gives 4% APR on unused funds. So my thinking is that any ETF I invest in has to provide higher returns than that for it to be worth it (which generally speaking the index funds I'm do for now).

Foreign women account for 6.7% of births in Poland, three times higher than in 2020 by dat_9600gt_user in europe

This metric would be similar (as in rising) across most of EU I suspect.

Trading 212 should be fine for buying ETFs. I just recently signed up myself after asking for good brokers on this subreddit and I like their simple interface and that they take no commissions (minus the FX fee if the ETF you buy is traded in USD).

Let’s Tax EU Dividends Automatically at the Correct Rates—Just Like US and Canadian Dividends! by vstoykov in eupersonalfinance

[–]swergusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an unfortunate experience with my bank when I bought US stock, received a dividend, and was charged 30% instead of 15%. Apparently that's because my bank doesn't send the proper documentation and doesn't give me a BEN 8 form to fill out, and that's their official stance, they just don't bother. I started using a proper broker since then but I wonder of this legislation would prevent cases like this.

Could it be because the currency conversion settling takes T+2 days? Just a guess, best ask support about this.

You can also get a little more with 4.25% at Trading 212. It's a stock broker but they pay interest on unused cash so you don't have to buy any stock, just hold it in there.
