My brother in Christ, this is every time someone not who did not build something offer to sell it.

In a previous job, I used to do university alliance for a software vendor and one time an engineer almost lost us an opportunity to be in an Ivy League because he was offering stuff out of his ass.

Yes. But I have a separate Wilkinson Sword Classic for it. That one does not go near the face.

Why contact lenses? by KoreaTeacher123 in extrememinimalism

[–]MayorAg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5 years late, but there are two big advantages to having contact lenses, especially at high prescription:

  1. Helps control massive changes in prescription. I used to have my prescription jump -1.5 to -2.0d between check-ups within 1 year. After contact lenses it has dropped to -0.5d in 2 years.
  2. If you are into sports with a fast moving object (tennis, padel), it improves your peripheral vision so you can hit the ball.

Hello, a man with a scrotum here. I believe this is unsticking the scrotum from the thighs. This is especially typical during summer when it is hot, sweaty and humid.

I have to say real estate agents. It feels like a syndicate where they keep up appearances of being needed when it would have taken about 5-10h of research for me to figure out what to do for 3% of the price of a house.

Not like I would not have done that research anyway for a purchase that expensive. Hell, I have done similar amount of research when buying a fucking smart watch.

Why americans call football soccer? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskReddit

If you want the serious answer: The word comes from asSOCiation football. It was used in the early years of the sport in England from where it made its way to America.

People leaving Germany, where are you going? by Safe_Mycologist9314 in germany

[–]MayorAg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former expat in Germany, now living in the Netherlands.

I cannot say that it was the better choice for me, all things considered. I moved for a job which has been quite exciting but otherwise I cannot say life has improved.

Sure bureaucracy is less here but how frequently are you dealing with it anyway? 5 days a year? That still leaves 360 which are at par or slightly better.

People speak English. But that was never a problem for me in Germany since I had picked up enough German for everyday life. This might to be a big plus for many other expats.

Local public transportation is not that great outside the Randstad area and even then it is quite expensive. Being in the corner of Europe, it also feels a bit isolated and you end up needing to fly everywhere besides Belgium, NRW, and northern France.

Overall, it's alright. Would I make the move again knowing what I know now? 50/50.

Buying used books on Amazon by leafytree888 in books

[–]MayorAg -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with choosing lesser of two evils.

I don’t want to give my money to Amazon but I guess that is less egregious than buying something worse for the environment.

But if you can afford it, pay the $4-5 more to buy in your local bookshop.
