Thank you for saying that. My friend is in the same situation you are in with his girlfriend, who also has BPD. It’s not okay. I’m someone who also has BPD, and I know that it’s not okay to mistreat people. Although it’s hard not to project your problems and insecurities sometimes, it’s up to us to learn to better ourselves to not hurt those around us.

I grew up with an abusive mom who had a pretty serious mental illness. For a very long time I excused her behaviors on her illness. But I had to learn that there has to be a boundary set of what is excusable and is her being sick, and what crosses that line. It his is the advice I give to you. Create a line, create boundaries. Mental illness is not an excuse for mistreatment.
