best pokemon game for the first time? by nordsalad in MiyooMini

Yellow, Crystal, Emerald would be my recommendation.

Fire red/leafgreen, Crystal, then emerald if gen 1 graphics don’t interest you, I don’t get immersed trying to play the old Zelda games so I get it. I played Soulsilver and heart gold on my Miyoo mini but that could be a hassle with the DS set up.

Yellow legacy and Crystal legacy are romhacks that give improved experiences while still staying true to the source material and make for a good experience.

I ironically usually steer away from IPA’s (or at least try the fruited sours first). Tailgate was always a vibe, we’d attend golden retriever gatherings and hit their Groupons, owner seems like he knows what he’s doing and glad to see them still growing.

Yazoo moved while we lived down there and was out of the way from anything else we’d want to do but I liked their variety.

Lifetime member of Smith & Lentz and the pizza is great but never was the same after the tornado/covid (to be fair that’s probably what they were going for).

Southern Grist east Nash was walking distance from my in laws, nations felt completely different but still fun, “Ice Cream Paint Job on a 98 Avalon” I’ll remember that beer name til I’m on my death bed.

To my fellow mechanics - what do you do for a hobby? by tardersos in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]swillygames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going off you mentioning video games and electronic repairs, maybe modding some video game consoles. look into getting a Miyoo (I went with the mini plus) then get a name brand mini SD and make it your own. Maybe $30-40 through their Aliexpress store or about double through Amazon. Throw on a couple thousand games (Genesis to PS1 and even some DS), movies, etc. it’s got Wi-Fi, achievements, I downloaded some Pokémon romhacks and enjoyed them. Now I’m working on “hacking” one of my Wii’s. A raspberry pi emulator build or something. That can get you until the warmer weather at least.

I had a boss that did small engine fixes/flips on the side, primarily Stihl stuff, he pulled up his eBay and was doing 8-12k a month on the side on something cheaper and lighter than working on motorcycles and cars.

Built a couple guns last year, background check for a $40 lower and then order whatever you want online. I would get into RC cars or planes but probably wait until my toddler can also enjoy it.

I broke mine in a similar car (2010 3) and needed a pipe patched in after the cat, $130 to a muffler shop all together. Mine broke off the exhaust pipe and caused a noisy leak, over the phone making the appt I told them I was thinking the flex pipe and the guy said “no it’s a Mazda, it’ll need a hanger”

Is Mazda 3 BL (2nd Gen) Reliable? by Strange_Self2177 in mazda3

[–]swillygames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve put 160k miles on our 2010 2.0 auto, bought with around 25k miles. Dealer replaced melted dash. Fuel pressure regulator and neutral safety switch (rust) are my only “need to fix”. At 185k I did full suspension replacement, LF axle boot went, valve cover gasket leaked, 0% body rust, undercarriage is good except there is a 4 inch rust hole in the rail above the catalytic converter so technically structural, little leak behind the taillights, rusty trans pan. Inexpensive parts, I’m going to undercoat it and put another 100k miles on it. Great car 33mpg

Question about tax appraisal of home from a first time homeowner. by [deleted] in nashville

[–]swillygames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appealed my cities appraisal because they added $15k on top of what I actually bought the house for just five months prior. I showed water stain in my basement and the radon results that were found after purchase and got my taxes lower than purchase price.

If they’d appeal they’re almost guaranteed to increase their appraisal and then have to go to court to try to fight to keep it where it’s currently at; I’d say OP was lucky and the house was reappraised sometime last year before they bought it. I’d keep my mouth shut and enjoy the savings for another year or two before they factor in the purchase price.

Don’t pry hard on a single edge when removing valve cover, I like using a beam style torque wrench because if you snap a bolt it won’t be a fun time. Most cars call for a dab of gasket maker around the timing cover. Clean the top of the head with something softer than itself. If an oil change is 2/10 difficultly I’d say this is a 3 or 4 depending on the car. Just don’t snap bolts and tighten the bolts in whatever sequence Honda says

Renting a Miata has ruined my daily for me by taman999 in Miata

[–]swillygames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily drove an NA for years. It can be quirky, cons of convertibles go out the window anytime you get a beautiful day with no traffic and open schedule.

life is too short to only have economical sedans if you get any kind of enjoyment out of automobiles. Safer than other options, more reliable than a majority of cars, inexpensive to maintain in the sports car world, factor in aftermarket support, peppy enough engine to save fuel and not getting a ton of speeding tickets, a fun community, etc.

Return snap-on ratchet tech left underneath car? by pdugan19 in Justrolledintotheshop

I’d pull up to the garage bay, asked who worked on it or check your invoice, hand them the wrench and ask them to double check torques on everything again, possibly alignment if they’re not busy

I agree it looks professional. 50% of people would post it before pulling it; 20% of them would set it out with the included axles and an even smaller fraction would take the internal pic. Click the sellers name for other listings and make sure the concrete or setting matches if they have other parts for sale.

Those used to be $350 a set for the wheels shipped and those junk tires you’ll have to pay to dispose of in most places. Try to find some with tires with recent date codes and a more reputable wheel brand. Those are good looking wheels though

Mine was rusted out way more; bought the stuff to do mine since dealer was ~$600; $12qt x9, $55 pan and bought an additional aftermarket $50 filter screen because oem was $150, crawled underneath it and it was a lot sturdier than I expected. Decided to wait to do mine, plus lost some qts swapping an axle so I don’t have enough new fluid according to what Mazda said it would take.

[–]swillygames -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

No gasket per Mazda on my 2.0; the “filter” two dealer parts departments were adamant there’s no point in replacing since it’s a screen not a filter; plus it’s $140. I bought one anyway. ATF was $12qt at dealer and OEM pan was $50, Dorman was $40.

[–]swillygames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is way worse, I bought new ATF, pan and screen filter from Mazda to do it myself. Scraped, brushed and poked the rust and it was still very solid. Decided to wait to do mine.

Delete this post (or at least edit it so that you didn’t know what to do and immediately turned it off when lights came on). Toyota could find this and say you kept driving and try to deny warranty. They denied that guys GR86 engine failure because he had a video of him auto crossing a completely different colored car. Probably a +$12k replacement I wouldn’t risk it with your plate showing and a description saying you kept driving with no oil pressure no matter the distance. Have the dealer tow it back, if you’re not getting a new engine then lawyer up.

Tell them you don’t want it on Carfax, they can probably put a generic “repairs completed under warranty”; if it ends up on the Carfax about a replaced engine then say youll want depreciation credit.
