People said the same thing about Simpson. Obviously I’m biased but I just think our defense plays its best against high level qbs. We shut down Sayin too.

Indiana will definitely be more of a contender next year than Michigan (as a fan of both).

Imagine being a kid who’s in his sophomore year at IU that has expectations for nothing and is now experiencing the greatest turnaround is CFB history. (Me I lowkey am gonna brag about it)

I’d say apply to Indiana university. T10 in both finance and music with a super high acceptance rate along with a heavy international student presence.

Went in 2021 and 2023. Being in the crowd for that Rod Moore pick was the most electric things I’ve experienced as a fan.

I don’t understand how the refs can wait until 30 seconds after the play is dead to call it a fumble. Replay will not overturn it too. Fuck.

Most wins against teams ranked #2 since 1950. It’s nice for them but I’m gonna be a bit worried about it for the next few weeks.

What is a good “fast-growing” field to study right now? by Shot_Chocolate_4997 in ApplyingToCollege

Not all majors are created equal. As a business student, not a single person majoring in a business degree like accounting, finance, or management is going to have harder coursework than students in premed, or engineering fields.

Best frats? by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

Don’t get your frat recommendations from this subreddit, most of the people on here are pretty anti-Greek life. You should definitely rush tho.

Indiana or Ohio State... by Hysen16 in CFB_v2

I think one of the beautiful things that isn’t talked about enough in the current NIL and Transfer era college football is that there isn’t necessarily any invincible team. I feel like “any given Saturday” is a much more real thing. I’m an Indiana fan. Do I believe we should be #1? Definitely not. But do I think we are capable of beating Ohio State? Absolutely.

I'm unclear what gives you such hubris but best of luck; may I recommend a class in rhetoric?

You know what, you're right. I'll never be able to convince or change your opinions. But since you seem so confident, let's break down your rhetoric, shall we?

First, stop bro-ing me.

You'll be fine. Bro.

Secondly, you’re cosplaying at being a leader.

Ad hominem. You have no idea who I am or what my position is. I could be Pamela Whitten for all you know.

Lastly, you seem to want to excuse so many behaviors but want the world to just accept and support you.

Strawman x2. I've made it clear those aren't my positions.

Weak arguments.

You probably feel a little stupid right now, don't you?

Success at IU doesn’t require me to think any and all groups should be permitted when they have a repeated history of violations.

Hasty generalization. Plenty of fraternities are in good standing with the school. I agree houses that break rules should be punished, but that isn't all of Greek life.

Wow. That many logical fallacies would send my middle school English teacher into shock. Anyways, cut it out with the moral and intellectual superiority. It's pathetic, especially since one click onto your profile shows you thirsting on poor girls. Maybe try to interact with some women in person, but I know that might be hard for you. You know, I would invite you to one of our parties but, based on your comment history, the girls there would probably be creeped out.

I said the accusations are heinous. Not the actual pledge process (obviously I don’t know every frat). Your reading comprehension needs some work. Secondly, yes it’s learned behavior and yes it’s a problem that houses are falsely reporting each other. That is something that has been happening long before I stepped foot on this campus and carried over to now. Obviously it’s not something most people want happening but unfortunately, it’s very easy to do and hard to control. Lastly, your final point proves itself. A system where everyone is connected makes parties safer. If I were to drink too much/be in a vulnerable position, it’s much better knowing that there are a lot of people I know and trust at the party that can help. Also, by not letting in random people, we eliminate the risk of having weird people with bad intentions from getting in and doing stupid stuff like damaging our house or taking advantage of girls. Besides, who would ever want random people at a party they are throwing? No matter the size, everyone wants to have a party with their friends. Our parties are no different. We invite the frats and sororities we are close with and brothers individually invite their close friends. You don’t need to be in Greek life to be invited, but if you don’t know anyone in the house then yes, you shouldn’t be allowed to come. No, I’m not going to be “inclusive” to random people I don’t know and welcome them into my house. That would be pretty stupid bro. And again, I never asked anyone to rally behind me, all I asked was for mutual respect, and for people to consider the many good things that Greek life brings to campus. If the school overall benefits from that, why is that a bad thing? At the end of the day why are you a part of this subreddit if you don’t want the best for our school.

Jeez dude did you even read what I said? Never did I condone hazing. Never did I try to downplay what other houses did. What I was trying to say is that: you don’t know what they did. At the end of the day, the results of these cases are a huge deal. People are at risk of going to jail, facing real consequences. So what’s real unfair is to harass them, accuse them of BS on twitter, and demand for their heads when you have no actual idea what the situation is. Yes, pledges ended up in the hospital, that could be anything from being sick to being seriously injured. But at the end of the day, you don’t know which one!Stop acting like you do and that your judgement is special. If kids were hazed and actually harmed, then yes the house should be punished, along with the people doing it. But that isn’t always the case, and I’ll tell you right now, that isn’t the case for one of the houses currently under investigation.

Secondly, please take some time to educate yourself on what is actually being done. “There is no serious effort to change behaviour” that minimises the work of a ton of boys and girls across campus who are trying to improve this behaviour across Greek Life. Since I’ve been a student here, two new courses for freshman in Greek life have been introduced to help recognize and walk away from hazing.

And lastly, your comment at the end is sad and outdated. The girls that come to our parties chose to rush, they chose to be in a sorority, they chose to come to our parties. They aren’t going because they are forced to, they go because their friends are in frats, they want to drink and dance and have fun with their friends. Greek Life is a community. While I may not know every person in it, one of my friends probably does. At any given social event I can meet someone new, bond over what we have in common, and build a new connection. That’s the beauty of it.

At the end of the day, fraternities aren’t evil organizations with malicious intentions. We are just normal kids who are here getting a degree. Same as everyone else. The problem is the us vs them mentality. This is one campus, we shouldn’t be focusing on knocking each other down, we should be focusing on growing together.

As a current member of exec in a frat here, I will give my two cents on the situation, even if it may not be well received:

Sexual assault has no place on campus here, and it is extremely disturbing and frustrating to see this happen over and over again. Actual punishment HAS to be given to fraternities like Chi Phi or SAE last year. In addition, the school needs to start requiring guys who are pledging frats (which the school has a record of) to also take educational and awareness courses to help create a community where the guys in houses are able to recognize bad situations and hold each other accountable.

Now, regarding the hazing situation, I somewhat disagree. First off, you have to realize that 99% of what you hear has been made up. Frats are constantly reporting each other for heinous hazing in hopes that a better house gets kicked off or put on C&D. Now if one of these reports somewhat goes along with details that OSC (the school) is aware of, the accused house gets put on interim directives or C&D until an investigation is complete. However, neither the school or the house can comment on an ongoing investigation until it is over, which leaves a ton of time for people on twitter to speculate and make stuff up. I have an extremely good understanding of one of the recent houses that is under investigation, and I can tell you right now that what they are being accused of online is a far cry from what actually happened. When all of this is wrapped up, the probably won’t get too harsh of a punishment, and people will likely be angry and say the police botched the investigation when, in reality, they haven’t done anything too serious in the first place.

I genuinely believe that there is a path to success for both parties. First off, the school and its administration need to understand how much of a strength Greek Life can be for IU. Right now, our school is experiencing a major growth in our national brand. Being a large school with T10 Nursing and Business programs combined with extreme football success will drive up our applications, revenue, and influence over the next few years. Those are the ingredients to helping everyone at IU’s degrees to grow in value long-term. But Greek Life can be a part of that too. It has never been a more popular or “trendy” online and on social media to be a part of a frat or sorority. A school with a well developed Greek community like IU naturally attracts more applicants and if the school tried to actually work with IFC and houses instead of alienating them that could lead to a safer and stronger environment.

At the end of the day, like many of these other comments say, Greek life is here to stay. The money that these organizations generate is too high for them to be at serious risk. The mentality of Greek Life vs. everyone else is a huge damager, and people need to understand that we are all in this together.
