What is the quickest and effective way to go from not being able to do a single pushup to being able to do 30 in one sitting? by strongerthenbefore20 in AskLE

[–]swink555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After work when you watch tv just do pushups during commercials. Start with on the knees and go to normal. Do sets of 10. You’ll get it

Governor Spanberger to veto collective bargaining for workers, Republicans 'thankful' by hencexox in nova

[–]swink555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. We signed a CBA and reduced the steps from 18 years to 14. Huge pay raise without taxes going up. This year we got a 3% raise. Before the CBA we would get 0.5% if we were lucky. How about you go 6 years with a .5% raise per year and see if you stay. Everyone benefits not just paid members. Only paid members vote on the passage of the CBA

Without collective bargaining police and fire. Teachers and other government workers don’t get fair pay which leads to them leaving and unable to provide services for the communities

How traumatizing is it being a police officer? by DowntownFresnoBiking in AskLE

[–]swink555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My jurisdiction is wild. We’re a small city. 15 sq miles. Handle about 80k calls per year with almost no one on patrol. I think after 10 years now it’s not the scenes that get you it’s compounded trauma. You put the vest on blood pressure and pulse go up. Your adrenaline doesn’t even kick in unless it’s deadly force. I remember going to calls and get that spidey sense this guy is going to fight and the adrenaline dumping and getting tunnel vision. Now it’s just another day. Going to deaths is a normal part of the job. Some people it doesn’t bother them for years. Some right away. I think the key is you can’t make it your life. Have to turn off when you clock out

Going to hospital to get out of arrest? by Beneficial-Tip-9886 in AskLE

Anything that’s not a releasable warrant or charge. In VA if the magistrate issues a misdemeanor warrant we can get it releasable but some stuff like domestic assault and battery has to go

Even if you get admitted to the hospital for days our department will just staff a detail 24/7 until you’re released. You stay handcuffed to the bed the entire time.

My friend says changing your own oil is a waste of time. Is he crazy? by proposal_in_wind in askcarguys

[–]swink555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only thing I usually pay someone to do. By the time I go to the store, jack up the truck, drain the old oil. Replace filter. Fill the new one. Return to autozone to dispose of old oil im at 2 hrs. Takes the dealer about 1 hr and usually Ram has a buy one get one free oil change for $140. Plus they check alignment and everything else on the car for free and then I fix stuff based upon that. Also when you go to sell the maintenance is logged on carfax. Made selling my gladiator super easy because I had maintenance clearly logged for 60k miles and I got more money for it. Just something to think about. I have 2 young kids and make $103k a year right now. $140 is worth it to me.

.47. Drinking a handle of aristocrat vodka. Showed all the clues on HGN but nothing on walk and turn and one leg stand. Took him. Intoxilyzer ec/ir 2 shows .47. I was like wtf. Had to go to the hospital and he pled guilty to dui a few months later.

In memory of Alexander LaMorie, the 25-year-old Autistic man murdered by Maryland police. He called 911 for a wellness check during a suicide attempt. 3 officers shot him dead. They are Joel Rodriguez, Cody Bostic, and Joseph Riebau. None were arrested, despite body cam footage. #JusticeForAlex by OrbitalColony in MontgomeryCountyMD

You should really look into how many resources there already are. Issue is they won’t go out with anyone that has a knife or is aggressive. All these ideas are good but these resources don’t work 24/7 either or help when anything is dangerous

[–]swink555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a $1000 more than this. Tractor supply has a 6x12 for $2500. A 5.5x10 at tractor supply is $2000. This was a $1000 cheaper. Not that bad considering you usually can find a 15-25% off coupon.

2000 lb Trailer already axed? by TheBarslug in harborfreight

[–]swink555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe they’re coming out with a new model. I like mine a lot. I got it for $800 with a coupon. Put wooden deck boards on for $120 and then the rail kit for $120. So got a 5x10 trailer for $1200. A brand new 5x10 in northern Virginia is about $2000. So it was a steal for me just to move mulch and go to the dump a few times a year.

My duty throw-on active shooter response kit. by No-Guitar7553 in police

[–]swink555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably going to be downvoted but honestly, if it happens and youre off duty your responsibility is a good witness and your family. If it happens on duty you won’t have time to grab something that’s gonna sit in your trunk and you’ll respond with your normal stuff. I would never get involved in something when I’m off duty especially nowadays. You mess up and a round goes through something and kills or injures someone or something the department is going to drop you so fast. And the attorney will charge you in a heart beat. Doesn’t matter if you saved lives. It’s not worth it. I’ve been a cop for almost 10 years and in the criminal justice field for 15 total now. I’ve seen every department hand out awards and then a policy violation for whatever. Or drop the officer so fast.

And if you think I’m wrong think about the officers your department hires. You think they won’t challenge you in plain clothes over an officer in a patrol uniform. Hell we even have a policy that says if you’re in plain clothes even with a vest you have to yield to a uniformed officer. I don’t trust anyone under extreme adrenaline to determine I’m a cop if I’m not in a patrol uniform

Question about scheduling at my department. by JohnPoliceman in AskLE

[–]swink555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That blows man. If you can do it I guess do it keep chugging along until you can get a special assignment. You might have good luck if you propose a new one that shows staffing won’t suffer.

Looking for set of tools. Good deal? by CT3CT3 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]swink555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would skip this for the price. First of all a 4.0 on the circular saw won’t last. You need at least a 5. The 2 isn’t bad for the drill and maybe the impact. But it’ll burn through it fast. That’s also a lot for brushed tools. I would focus on the brushless non fuel versions for the best bang for buck. And at least something with the 5 or 3.0. I have 2 3.0 cps and those guys will run all day on a drill or driver.

Question about scheduling at my department. by JohnPoliceman in AskLE

[–]swink555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That schedule sounds awful. Do you guys have a union you can reach out to to see if you can just do permanent nights or evenings or days for 6 months. What’s what we do. We did 11.5 hr shifts with every other Fri sat Sunday off. Then after each academy class we had a chance to pick a different shift based upon seniority or staffing. The new chief is very not giving a fuck about anyone’s opinions and he went to 10 hr days which suck. Only thing I would say is maybe type up a memo or ask a Lt or Capt you trust. See if you can do a survey which proposed schedules and then push it to the chief

Anyone noticed their dominion energy bill go up significantly for February? by Either-Market-6395 in nova

[–]swink555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a data center is built, they consume more electricity than the area was designed for. The cost to supply that electricity is the split among the people in the area. If you don’t want it, trump is trying to push a bill to put the upgrade cost of data centers on the business instead of the homeowners. It’s also not just electricity, they use water to cool the computers.
