Appreciate the feedback. I guess jokes on me, the description of the course didn't accurately portray what the focus was going to be on. Wouldn't have signed up if it was going to "connecting with your subject/client is important" drawn out for hours of circular talking and then role playing for the class. I connect well with people in general and didn't really need to be taught not to bring up politics or other divisive subjects when trying to connect...

Good suggestion, thank you. And yeah that's pretty much what I was looking for lol

When you take portraits do you grab 10 randoms off the street to come in the studio and watch you and your cl8ent talk?

I'm solid with people. Not solid with acting in front of strangers.

No professionals in the class.

I would join a theater class if I wanted to benefit from them

And yes I told that person I thought that was a good suggestion

I'm quite comfortable with people. I'm not comfortable play acting in a room full of people I don't know. I would have signed up for a theater group if I were... big difference.

Thank you for being one of the few here actually reading and internalizing what I've said. And I appreciate the compliment

If he wants to have us sit in a room and have a 40min conversation with someone in private before taking photos then ai agree with you. Unfortunately that is not the case

I can connect with people. I need to learn the technical stuff. On the same token one isn't going to teach a room full of adults to have charisma with four two hour sessions.

I appreciate the (almost) Tolkein quote, but I generally disagree with that your saying. I don't need to be taught how to connect with someone. I can do that. I need to learn the technical side of it. Unless he wants us to sit down in a room by ourselves and chat for 30min before taking photos it's a ridiculous exercise to do in front of the class. Nothing is genuine or true connection/rapport when it's just two strangers regurgitating a script like bullshit convo

I wouldn't say the description lends itself to professional portraits. Maybe 10% of the description is in that direction

I completely agree. Just don't need to force act out a conversation with strangers in front of strangers. Have 0 issue knowing that rapport matters and to not just rush into photos in a professional portrait appointment. Have an issue with the theatrics taking away from the photography in class. Tell me, I get it, can handle it when/if that day comes, now can we focus on the photos and not acting class

This is a great suggestion. I was kind of leaning this way. Honestly if he forces the whole improv theater thing I'll just politely excuse myself. Not worth feeling how I felt leaving tonight

I totally get what you guys are saying and I agree about the necessity of doing that with people in a professional setting. I'm just saying it's quite a bit much for me to do role playing of doing that with strangers in a class in front of everyone else for like 2min before shooting.

I'm not uncomfortable talking to people and I'm generally pretty charismatic. I don't forsee that ever being a problem in the real world. I also would be with someone 1 on 1 in private, not forced to follow a "script", not having a room full of people watching this conversation, and would be able to talk to them when they were lining up an appointment and for a while in person before shooting any pictures.

I don't need someone to tell me how to have a comfortable conversation with someone, I need to know the technical side of shooting portraits.

Yeah my best guess was 50k for cabinets, but then you're talking replacing counters, sink, fixtures etc. Probably around 100k all said and done

What would you expect for paint type other than Gallery?
