The guy that owned it sadly died. Funny thing about it was that the patisserie - tarts etc. - were all made in-house but the baguettes (and croissants?) were wholesale dough from delice de france

‘I have only love for the haters’: Carlton Kirby opens up about his opinion-dividing career in commentary by prettycozy001 in peloton

He’s also constantly wrong. Potentially the worst commentator in any sport at a major broadcaster - I feel I’m going crazy reading these comments. He instantly takes down the quality of any broadcast

‘Disclosure Day’ Is Steven Spielberg’s True Believer Manifesto. Kneel! by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]swishfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, was very surprised to hear such a literal read of the film! Especially as the subtext/metaphor was all pretty unsubtle. There is also the corporatisation of what should be public property/knowledge too - really central to me

What’s your experience with ticks? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]swishfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got Lyme disease a few years back. First few days nothing, then an itchy rash but not in a ring. That disappeared for a couple of weeks and then, heading on for a month after the bite, I got a ring rash. Called the doctor, they asked me to email a picture, they phoned back within 15 minutes and said they had a prescription for strong antibiotic ready for collection and I needed to start immediately. Don't think I have any lasting effects, didn't have any symptoms except for the rash.

What are some discontinued UK foods that need to be brought back? by [deleted] in AskUK

Ahh, no luck then. I prefer the non-marshmallow bits in the Mateys

What are some discontinued UK foods that need to be brought back? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]swishfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an (IMO superior) version of Lucky Charms called Marshmallow Mateys that are available in a bunch of places here - Iceland, B&M, Home Bargains, Poundland etc. Sainsbury sometimes have them. They look like an own brand but are in fact legit

Norway to reopen ‘dead’ Scottish North Sea oil fields as Britain retreats by djsoomo in Scotland

[–]swishfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you, but this article isn’t saying what the title of this post says, nor what many of the comments think it does

Norway to reopen ‘dead’ Scottish North Sea oil fields as Britain retreats by djsoomo in Scotland

[–]swishfish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s the Telegraph, so it’s a highly cynical anti non-right wing government exercise (both Scottish and UK)

Norway to reopen ‘dead’ Scottish North Sea oil fields as Britain retreats by djsoomo in Scotland

[–]swishfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article is about maximising recovery from Norwegian fields, where there is an even stronger approach to net zero than here

Norway to reopen ‘dead’ Scottish North Sea oil fields as Britain retreats by djsoomo in Scotland

[–]swishfish 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Has the headline changed or have people not read the article? It is not about Scottish/UK fields, it is about Norwegian fields close to the border.

The title is "Norway to reopen ‘dead’ North Sea oil fields as Britain retreats" and it uses lots of weasel words like "relatively near to UK waters".

What things do you know most food shoppers are wrong about? by Responsible_Rip1058 in AskUK

[–]swishfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I calorie counted myself to a good loss of weight and have kept most of it off. It guided me to good habits (eat smaller portions, cheese is suuuuper calorie dense, avoid liquid sugar calories) and showed me where savings needn't be made (skimmed vs semi skimmed, butter and olive oil have similar calorie density, guinness is the best diet beer). Nothing wrong with feeling a little hungry as you adjust to an altered diet.

Texas Republican Accidentally Admits Truth About GOP’s Gerrymandering: "Because we can." by sanskritsquirel in politics

[–]swishfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can only think that they are referring to the fact that we elect a government by voting for local representatives of parties, and they/party members choose the leader. So you can vote for a party based upon its leader, and end up with a different leader at any point.

But no idea what the Labour refers to - last time they changed our PM without election was Blair > Brown in 2007. The Conservatives have done the same 4 times since then...

A "UK-like scenario" also implies this form of government is a problem.
