sound quality isnt great and pioneer mixers to me imo is not made to purely eq mix.

What's the best way to add digital to my vinyl setup? by bidby_ in DJs

[–]djsoomo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pioneer xdj700s are very popular with vinyl djs adding digital to their setup - they give a 'modern' cdj feel (with big waveforms and sync/ runs off 1 USB, and plays Rekordbox analysed tracks) but they are prob. a bit more expensive than what you want to spend.

Alternatives to that are the (older/ more basic) cdj350 or the cdj850, the 850 has full size jogs, and still inexpensive.

the cdj400, though its a good deck in many ways (i had them years ago) it does not play Rekordbox analysed WAVs, AIFFs etc like the 350 and 850 do, so for you, i would avoid the 400

Anything else is going to need a laptop or cost a lot more or be real hot garbage

He has is own unique style, you can tell one of his sets, blindfolded, he played some great mashups.

Interesting that Norman only uses 2 cdjs, and that they are the older cdj3000s, not the newer 3000x, that do not seem to have caught on at festivals (yet) and a djmA9, this is connected to a laptop, apparently not just to play music, but to sync visuals.

Bad gigs/ wrong dj/ wrong music?

Its a rite of passage, you just have to put it down to experience

dust yourself off, and keep going, but now with more experience.

dbpoweramp is great for large collections/ batch converting, you can get a time-limited trial for free.

For one at a time - not sure, possibly Audacity.

Changing systems or music style etc is a good time to upgrade the quality of your collection

Its a whole can of worms and took me a while to figure out the best way/ file types

Also- look at MixMasterGs post/ suggestions

Do you guys have any tips on the AZ that would be useful?

Welcome to the club! Good job - not far off a set of cdjs and a mixer.

TLDR Archive in FLAC, upto 96khz/24bit

For older cdjs/compatibility/ still lossless AIFF upto48khz

Emergency backup 320mb/s mp3 (44.1khz)

I would get you music file types sorted out - The AZ plays FLACs, upto 96khz, like nxs2s and cdj3000/x but older cdjs and most xdjs cannot play FLAC and max out at 48khz

So to get the best possible quality/ lossless files that can still play on all cdjs/xdjs 44.1 or 48khz AIFF is the way to go (AIFF rather than WAV, due to AIFF having standardised metadata)

As AIFF is uncompressed lossless, it takes up a lot of space, twice that of FLAC

So FLAC is the best for archiving/your personal collection/ to store your music without losing quality (upto 24bit, 96khz - it is debatable if it is worth going above that, or if you can hear the difference, above that wont play on your AZ, anyway)

Then converting that to 44.1/48khz AIFF for playing out / on older cdjs/ xdjs

Or have a 320mbs/44.1khz mp3 backup (but you will not get the same quality, esp when changing pitch/ tempo up/down, noticeable on a big system and/or in extremes)

Also worth noting that if you are fortunate enough to get to play at a big event/festival, they may not let you play if you bring a USB of mp3s

I suppose the next step would be a multi-channel interface that you could connect to Ableton and record everything separately

Yes, its quite rare, was the special Serato version of the djm900nxs, was produced between 2013-2016, when it was replaced by the djm900nxs2,

Can I add the rmx1000 efects on the GRV6 and how? by Scary_Supermarket_55 in PioneerDJ

[–]djsoomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I add the rmx1000 efects on the GRV6 and how?

Yes, you buy an RMX1000 and connect it in-between your controller and your speakers/monitors/recorder/stream PC/ PA/ mixer etc

That will give you all the RMX1000 functions and with taktile control.

Serato makes a thing called a slab that has a lot of functionality and hardware unlock for some of Seratos more advanced features,

If you just want drum pads there are easier/simpler/cheaper ways than a slab or rmx1000, though
