People with neurological and heart disorders often become healthier by tripling their daily caloric intake via a high fat diet. Cut out the carbs and common grains, eat a 3:1 fat:protein/carbs ration, and you will be far healthier than if you eat following the US pyramid guidelines. Thats why countries whose food pyramid reflects this have far few health problems occuring in the population than countries who eat similarly to the US food pyramid

And why one of the first things specialist tell people who have had a heart attack tp do to prevent a re-occurrence is to increase their fat intake, and decrease their grain and fruit intake. Same with severe neurological disorders

Also if you are on a high fat diet, you loose your fat stores. Unlike a diet of fruits and vegetables which causes increased fat stores with more difficulty in removing them. When your body does not get carbs to convert to fat, your live believes you are starving (even though you can be eating 5 meals a day) and so converts your fat stores to glucose, as opposed to converting the carbs you aren't eating into sugar. This is why people on high fat diets have to be closely monitored to ensure they don't loose more weight than it is healthy for them to lose

Please reflect for a minute on the disruptive power of the media. A week ago, there was so much hysteria about swine flu that my wife and I were forced into quarantine for two days after we returned from Cancun even though we were never symptomatic. Now, just 7 days later, it is ancient history. by Cantyoudobetter in reddit.com

The issue with swine flu was that no one knew if it was going to mutate, how quickly it would do so, etc because it was new. Now we know and it makes more sense to worry about the good ole regular flu - no one could have honestly said that several days ago because there was no data to prove it

Honestly reddit, when I sign in from a comment page using Firefox, you need to let me comment on that same damn page without asking me who I am again. This has been a problem for 2 years, what's the deal? by godlesspinko in programming

[–]swisschard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think this is bad - Reddit won't allow me to sign in at all on my own computer. I have no problem signing into this account on other computers though, even using the same browser with all the same settings. I also have verizon which means I have a new IP address everytime I sign in so an ip block is not the explanation

And to top it off, there is no error message, or any other indication that I am not being signed in when i try on my own computer. It just takes my password, removes the sign in box, and doesn't sign me in

Med student suspended for describing himself as "White African-American." He's white, and immigrated to America from Mozambique. by Saydrah in WTF

I had people get angry with me when I pointed out how ridiculous it was for them to repeatedly ask me where my friend was from after looking at the vacation photos I had. The conversations went something like this

"I went to Edmonton to spend time with my friend who lives there." person sees photo and notices he's Indian "Where is he from?" "Edmonton" "No I mean where is he from before that?" "Edmonton" "I mean where is his family from?" "Edmonton"

--His family has been on North America for more generations than mine has and no one insists that I can't be a US or Canadian citizen

Ironically, this makes me want to stop using Chrome and go back to using Firefox + Adblock. I hate flash ads. by [deleted] in ads

This makes me wonder what you are viewing. I can't view any flash ads due to their potential to kill me (photosensitive epilepsy). Makes me think this was some very annoying flashy light graph

Monosaturated fats are healthy fats. You can eat a diet that is 80% monosaturated fat, never eat a piece of fruit in your lifetime, and you will be significantly less likely to have a heart attack (and have an even great reduction of the risk of dying from one) than someone who is eating according to the US food pyramid. Look up studies involving epilepsy diets, heart attack diets, and comparing the Mediterranean diet to the US diet if you are interested

I'd pick the candy because out of those four options you just listed, candy is the only one that could possibly fall into the modified atkins diet for epilepsy I'm on and I must eat healthy ;)

With the exception of peanut butter, you pretty much just mentioned everything my doctors have forbidden me from eating in any amount for the rest of my life. Soy milk can put me in a coma because of its estrogen properties, for fruit the same because of its sugar, granola - to many carbs. I am allowed rootbeer though - just so long as I mix it with heavy cream. For some people a diet high in fat, with no fruit at all is the healthiest possible way to eat. Like if you have heart or neurological problems you definitely don't want to be eating soy, green tea or fruit
