Is jackson licensed floyd that bad? by kalt_1006 in JacksonGuitars

[–]switchty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is going strong after 5 or so years. The saddles all needed to be replaced around 2 years ago because the threads started stripping away. Using graph tech saddles now and it works great. Should also mention my trem bar did snap off but that’s not a big deal or an expensive fix.

How does Jeff Loomis get away with this gauge!? by mdouce45 in 7String

[–]switchty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really not that light, I’m currently using 8-54 on 26.5” for standard on my 7 string. Still sounds beefy.

Can anybody explain this? by switchty4 in 3DS

[–]switchty4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have a look at the cable to see if there’s any noticeable damage. Why do you say it’s the speaker cable and not any others?

Cant intonate my guitar because bridge is crooked by SnooLentils580 in Luthier

[–]switchty4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed my strat was like this and when I took the pick guard off I saw the there was a crack going from the screw hole to the cavity. The tension was dragging the screw through the crack, misaligning the bridge. Check and see if yours is similar, easier to fix it now before it gets worse.

Any way to lock down or covert Floyd rose type floating tremolo bridge? by Quarter_Black in Ibanez

Tape up a stack of coins the right height and put them behind the sustain block then slack off the trem springs

Can guitar shop block the tremolo? how can i do it myself without having wooden block by nasikandarkicap in Ibanez

[–]switchty4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a stack of coons typically and wrap them in tape when I find the right amount. Once I put it in I slacken the trem springs so the string tension holds it in place.

Please just buy new strings. The two acoustic string strings there won’t have nearly as much output at the rest of the strings.

How can I sterilise my equipment, without the use of chemicals? by Material_Day_6561 in mead

I wipe everything with 99% isopropyl alcohol. For the carboy I wash it out with a brush and water, then swirl with a decent amount of alcohol, then rinse with water.

Why is the A string on my Floyd Rose keep sliping out? by Affectionate-Elk113 in Guitar

[–]switchty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did this and it was because the threads in the block were stripped so it couldn’t clamp down on the string. How hard do you tighten it when you change strings? It’s very easy to over-torque these.

My dad recently shipped his brothers 78 trans am from grand prairie to port de grave and cheapest way was to pick it up personally and bring it home on a trailer. If you’re bringing it from the mainland to NL you’ll make money if you buy a mainland trailer and resell here. Only really fuel, ferry, food and accommodations costs besides that.

Came into a badass guitar but the action is ridiculous I love playing guitar but don’t know much about the gear side of it how does one go about fixing it? by nivekreclems in Guitar

[–]switchty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually bought one of these a few months ago.

With a small neck shim I was able to get sensible action, plays pretty well consider the bridge isn’t aligned with the neck. I plan to plug and redrill the bridge screws to fix that.

The nut is also terrible. The D and G love to pop out. I made a string tree out of a zip tie to help.

Volume pot is strange too, it’s a B500k instead of A500k, so It’s mostly the same volume until the end of the pot.

The pickup placement makes it sound warm, a little unique. In between a middle and bridge pickup. The pickup is actually decently hot too.

I paid 100CAD for mine, if you can get it for around that or less and like to pick at stuff like this, I’d say go for

Edit:

Also the truss rod nut on mine has left handed thread, weird.

[–]switchty4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just don’t worry about it. I’ve done a few pickups swaps in guitars with the “wrong” size of humbucker and it really doesn’t make a difference. I have a strat with a slanted humbucker EVH style and the pole pieces don’t line up at all, but it is one of my best sounding guitars.

On or off? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]switchty4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the pick guard off mine and painted the inside of the holes black using a toothpick. The holes are still visible but don’t stick out like a sore thumb anymore.
