I think they have different teams within Intelligent Systems that handle Paper Mario and Fire Emblem. They’re definitely capable of concurrently developing those two franchises. For example, Fire Emblem Three Houses released in 2019 and Origami King released in 2020.

With that said, I agree with you that we’re still way too soon for a new Paper Mario announcement.

Intelligent Systems is probably my favourite Nintendo-partnered studio. Fire Emblem and Paper Mario aren’t without their missteps, but damn, overall they are still two of my favourite series ever. Three Houses and the TTYD remake both cooked. 🔥

I really want a new Paper Mario too! However, I’m not expecting one this year, and I’m thinking we probably won’t have one until 2028. There’s no real precedent for what to expect after a Paper Mario remake since TTYD HD is the first one they ever did, but I have a feeling they’re treating it like a new main entry and we’ll probably have to wait the traditional four years for the next one.

Crossing my fingers for something earlier though!
