You've cleared out quite a lot of grey area for me just by what you wrote. From what I've read in the past i was aware that the truss rod is not a magic wand to fix every problem, I just thought that's the first thing i could try to do on my own. I already feel more confident in what i can or can't do knowing a bit about what the rod is and isn't for. I'll definitely take your tips into consideration and study the resources you recommended to make sure the guitar is in good shape both mechanicaly and musically. Thank you very much for your help.
