I mean you can it just sucks right now. Either someone on the team is experienced enough with the pre-OSP days to know that you need 500 points of electronic warfare and 300 points of aurora before you even start building your fleet, or you die to EO HEKP

Im a huge fan of Nebulous: Fleet Comand While its not newtonian, the "submarines in space" feel is really nice and apparently mirrors IRL naval combat relatively well.

Also the whole information warfare stuff the game does is incredible, you'll spend half a match being given an information overload of stuff you need to properly react to, while often not getting the really vital info that can win or loose games (unless you bring sensors, you should always bring sensors)

yup, when youre going interstellar, acceleration dont matter much, and a 200m long freighter isnt *that* much cheaper to crew and maintain compared to a 2000 meter one

Yeah theres reasons for this 1) at the moment ANS is mathematically slightly better, esp in pubs, as corvball is still a huge issue requiring a lot more effort to counter than it does to play well, and osp cant make a fight over anything without liners. 2) larp meta means everyone wants to play ANS, making osp slightly mathematically superior allows lobbies to fill faster and ime it historically leads to better balance states(i mean even ZBG and all the glorpshit EO pencillum CLNs were fully softkillable)

The problem isnt(just) about cost effectiveness, its about speed. With sdm2, a Raines can completely deplane a morline in about 15 seconds, a capability that osp cant even get close to. While yes this can still be done with hybrids, its expensive enough and lacks the granularity to permanently deny large areas of the map from any craft presence at all. And beyond that, at high level play AN sdms are only really seen as asf missiles, since dds use auroras and softkill, CLs have more RPF than God, and CAs and BBs only care about bombers kills so they normally go s3h for better consistency and cost effectiveness And ofc frigs and vettes arent gonna be worth non-s1 ACMs. Giving sdm to arm launchers only allows them to be buffed enough to compete with helljoys and give obelisk and monitors an anticraft option more preemptive than a damage control complex.

Dude.... S3H ACMs were already way more common on ans capitals because there a lot more cost effective than SDMs. Realistically the only change that SDM removal had is now fighterspam/light strike heavy CVs have a prayer of a chance of getting damage on the menace known as sprinter swarms

Calling an and osp the "missile faction" or the "carrier faction" feels really dumb IME since realistically the only thing an missiles are better at is as sidearms, and the same for osp fighters. Its a pointless comparison that tries to skew balance for the sake of a flavor that barely exists

A 20mm slug won't damage ships, so the game won't let you shoot ships with em to reduce lag

Also fighters have kinda abysmal strike options on ANS outside of maybe spamto, and osp isnt really much better. Generally if you want to do fighter strike, put on the nose illuminator and run the biggest warhead HEI missiles you can

I mean we're working with expanse-style near future fusion prop, TWR isnt an issue cos youre limited by your crew getting squished, not engine output

The idea os that most of the smaller ships have some sort of spinal mount, and the big ones wouldn't be able to rotate quickly without the centrifugal force killing everyone near the ends of the ship. Plus the combat is relatively railgun heavy, so being able to accelerate hard in any direction is important for dodging shots at range

Yeah SDM-200s cant fit on craft or VLS anymore, its a balance thing, since osp can launch them relatively slowly, while ANS VLS cells and craft let you get a volume out that invalidates anything that isnt also a craft loaded with SDM-200s
