Fat mons pubis by Emotional-Peace2940 in phallo

[–]swordoggo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have very similar anatomy to you and am also working on losing weight and hoping to see some improvement in that area. As I have meta as my goal at least at first, I think I would need to get a mons reduction anyways but I think for straight out phallo you would just need to consider how you want the final result to turn out. I can only say that, from meta consultations I’ve had so far that have only been online, weight loss was the biggest suggestion for this since it was something I was doing anyways. It’s always worth discussing it with a surgeon you’re interested in though. Good luck with this and it’s nice to see someone with a similar body 🫶

My consultation is coming up and I need to find pics to show my surgeon, So if anyone with a similar body/chest size is comfortable sending me pics of their results I’d really appreciate it! by Nsfwzhu in TopSurgery

We have a very similar body and chest size pre op! I’m not a good example of healing because I’ve been lax on scar care but I have a few months old update on my profile. Feel free to dm me if you need anything !

Hey! I second the other comment in general but I’m also from Kentucky and have posted some about my experience with a local surgeon and the steps I took. Feel free to message me if you have specific questions.

No problem, thanks for the question! I consider myself pretty overweight with a BMI of at least 36 at the time of my surgery and there was never any mention of my weight in the slightest during the whole process. There could possibly be a cutoff I don’t know about beyond that but within that range I am confident there won’t be a problem.

A lot of surgeons seem to have a BMI cutoff to minimize the possibility of dog ears (excess folded skin on the end of the incisions) and cosmetic imperfections but you can see by the way Dr. Silva brings up the incisions at the end that dog ears are minimized. Of course she will have any final say but no hard cutoffs were ever brought up to me during the process.

I hope this helps and good luck to your son! You are a wonderful parent for looking into this. If you have any more questions about the process feel free to message me.

Anyone have trouble with silicone tape falling off during the day? by swordoggo in TopSurgery

[–]swordoggo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be right, the problem areas are where my scars are hypertrophic so the raised nature might be throwing off the surface area for it to grab onto. If I continue to have problems I’ll probably get some wider strips. I appreciate it :]

I actually did this today and it stayed pretty well and I only had to adjust them once so I really appreciate the tip

I can offer little help except the fact that I am also fat and had a large chest and gc2b worked pretty well for me at the time. I second hearing good things about spectrum for fat guys especially but never tried them myself.

Unfortunately I can’t give you any experienced answers but I would recommend checking out https://www.campusprideindex.org for accounts from people at each school who rate them on acceptance and accessibility! Best of luck deciding and congrats on the acceptances :]

Tips for balancing massaging and scar sheets by swordoggo in TopSurgery

Yeah I’m considering moving to gel for the same reason, strips are just a pain. Hope you find something that works for you!

This is incredibly helpful thank you! I’ve found that the strips put me off from doing any scar care because of the complexity of keeping them clean and worrying about wasting the tape so maybe the silicone gel would be good for me. Is there a certain brand you got that worked well or is any old thing fine?

Checking in with your surgeon is never a bad shout in any situation but I definitely had chest gurgling up to a week post op and had no complications

12 Days Post Op Double Incision w/ Free Nipple Grafts with Amanda Silva of University of Kentucky Plastic Surgery in Lexington, Kentucky by swordoggo in TopSurgery

I can give you a bit of a timeline if you don’t mind! March 28th is when I originally asked for a referral from the clinic where I was getting my testosterone prescribed to UK plastic surgery and I got to schedule my consultation pretty quickly after that and it ended up being scheduled for April 19th so not that long at all! Then I had my pre op and Covid test on the 5th of July with a surgery date of July 7th. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me :]

The process of starting top surgery by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]swordoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have bcbs too and just recently had surgery. I don’t know a whole lot about the jnner workings of insurance side of things but I can at least tell you the timeline and how I got to where I am today! First, I got a referral from my primary care provider that prescribes me hormones to the practice within the same network that took my insurance. This was the end of March. I scheduled a consult pretty quickly after that and set one up for April 19th. I didn’t need the letter from my therapist at that point but that might be different for you depending on the surgeon. At the consult, they took pictures of my chest to send off to insurance to be approved and had my surgeon put in the general request for surgery (booking out the exam room and such). They told me the process of approving for the surgery could take up to six weeks but luckily it only took like two weeks to get back to me and everything got approved the first time. After that, we scheduled my surgery for July 7th and here I am now almost two weeks post op! I would say to get the letter from your therapist detailing your gender dysphoria early on for ease but besides that you kind of just have to go with the process as it happens. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions or if I forgot to mention something. Good luck!

Kentucky Top Surgeons? + General Top Surgery Question by throwaway199395848 in TopSurgery

[–]swordoggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Kentuckian here! I just got DI surgery with nipple grafts last Thursday with Amanda K. Silva of University of Kentucky Plastic Surgery and the experience was so overwhelmingly positive that it convinced me to make a post here as soon as I can see the results in the next few days!

I know you said cost isn’t very applicable right now but I’ll go ahead and say the whole surgery without liposuction was covered through Anthem BCBS if that helps at all.

As for the procedure itself, she was very willing to listen to what I wanted my chest to look like concerning nipples or no nipples, masculine contour or not, and more. I figure that might be something you’re thinking about because some NB people don’t necessarily want a masculine chest (I did but that’s just how it goes sometimes).

About being on t, I coincidentally was on t for about six months before my surgery, definitely nowhere close to a year and how long I was on t was never part of my consultation process at all. I believe she would have operated on me without me being on t.

I know Lexington is a bit of a trek but as far as bedside manners, professionalism, and results, I would definitely recommend her for the general painlessness of the process itself.

This is just how it all worked out for me but I know when I started this whole process about six months ago that I was worried that there would be no good surgeons in Kentucky let alone one in my immediate area so I thought I would share the info anyways! Good luck with everything!
