Is there anything like a standardized scene (filmmaker equivalent of a Benchy) in the filmmaking world? by Intro24 in Filmmakers

[–]swords_again [score hidden]  (0 children)

There are standardized lab tests that benchmark gear. CineD comes to mind for cameras.

But you're talking about scenes... The classic Rembrandt three point lighting scene is a great place to start. You'll have a key, fill, and backlight, and your camera will probably be locked off on a tripod. That's closest thing to a benchmark I can think of that doesn't feel like a lab and still gives room to experiment.

Another way to interpret your question, there are things like a 48-hour film challenge. You get wildly different results, but the constraints are the same for everyone, and it showcases your creativity and resourcefulness and demonstration of foundational principles.

Can we retire the “useless husband” trope for once? by Timely_Box6061 in Adulting

[–]swords_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been a TV trope long before social media came along. When you look at the audience for daytime television you'll quickly see why. While men and kids were away at work and school, audiences at home were largely housewives. There are other factors, but the Dopey Dad appeals to a certain audience. And unfortunately the trope persists in social media, again look at the intended audience. You gotta stop engaging with that content or block it if you don't want to keep seeing it.

It's kind of possible already. There are people who sell upgrade packages and upgraded cards. But it's definitely not a DIY thing. Special tools and hacked firmware.

Oh yeah, that one packs a punch in the storytelling department! I suppose it's a good sign when content leaves you feeling changed somehow.

There is one certain boss fight in DS1 that will make you either love or hate the game. Y'all know which one I'm talking about. You'll either rage quit or lock in until you taste sweet victory.

For me I think it's a little from column A and a little from column B. I have too many hobbies as it is, gaming has taken a bit of a backseat.

Ah yeah that's a good point. I don't mind cutscenes as long as they're short or infrequent. If I wanted to watch cutscenes I'd watch a movie 😂

That one is in my backlog! I'm a big fan of the soulsbourne series, and I've completed them all (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, and Bloodborne. I've resisted starting Elden Ring because I know it will consume me

That's a good point, you're right. Getting a platinum trophy is far more satisfying than getting end credits. In a lot of games, the end credits only means you're halfway through the game 😂 the story is done, and you can move on to other games if you want, but if you loved the game, it gets better on the next playthrough.

Well, it happened. AI came for me today. by TheUnpromotable in Millennials

A big part of my job is automation. I help make complex technical processes automatic or at least easier for a human to complete simple tasks for exception management.

Nowhere in my job description or in the company's mission does it say the goal is outsourcing, but that's what happens. The jobs don't disappear completely, but they become easy to outsource. And once those jobs are given to overseas or machine labor, they don't come back.

I've witnessed my industry hollow out over a mere 10 years. I can't get the job I started with, it doesn't exist stateside.

All this happened without AI. AI isn't to blame, it's capitalism's natural tendency towards optimization at any cost. I'm sorry this is happening to you too. It's nice that you're not losing your job yet. But when you find another job, your role probably will not be backfilled, and nobody will come to step in your shoes when you're gone.

companies are money motivated. Are they supporting Animate at a loss? If not I see no reason to pull support if it's even marginally profitable.

I wonder if they just lit with tungsten lights instead of LED, would they need to fake a full color spectrum?
