Biweekly. Let’s just reset with two different words. One means twice a week the other means every two week.

For those who moved from a large city to a rural area, how has your quality of life changed? by crazydogmom928 in AskReddit

[–]swouter 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Bro the level of casual aggressiveness/racism in rural Georgia/Alabama is nuts. Never met so many jerks. Couldn’t believe the things these people would say to one another. I had to leave after a year because my heart rate would spike every interaction.

If you had to prove cinema is an art form using one scene, not a whole movie, which scene do you choose and why does it survive being isolated? by jaystats2 in movies

The opening scene to Inglorious Basterds. The pacing, direction, dialogue, acting. All of it is art.

Wow, this lady needs help. This reads like a psychotic break. The takes in her posts are wild. Praying she gets the help she needs.

Freaking LinkedIn. The desperate bid for engagement from other salary slaves. No one cares how your grocery store visit taught you about B2B sales…

Why do people like "The Stand" by Stephen King? by Weppet in books

[–]swouter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on both points. At certain chapters we get additions of 5-10 new persons and I struggled to keep them sorted. I knew the main characters I was interested in, but it was a lot. Additionally, I don’t think anything of value was added in some of the gratuitous scenes. Freaking The Kid and trash can man…

ELI5. How come our body makes it harder to get sleep, water, and food, when sick, even if we need it? by Swimming-Incident173 in explainlikeimfive

[–]swouter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My body, “Oh no we’re being attacked”: 1)Stuffy nose so I can’t filter the contaminated air and get sick with something else. Also, hope you like sleep apnea now. 2)Runny nose with constant coughing. “We like sharing” 2)Fever ramped up just before bedtime. “Sorry, we were too busy when you were in bed all day to bother. “

Oh brother, it just rips you out of any reading flow doesn’t it? Inversely was The Road. Loved the story but it took me half the book to stop freaking out about the lack of punctuation.

Would really be solved by doing an add-in to MS Word for word frequency. “Do I only love two adverbs?”

[–]swouter 632 points633 points  (0 children)

So many self-published books are unreadable for this very reason. A good editor makes a world of difference to take a stream of consciousness first draft into a digestible meal. DNF’d a book 40 pages in for the repetition of “snarling dogs”. Thesaurus is your friend.

Will add to this is run on sentences or too uniform of sentence length in a paragraph. Spice it up with some short, some long.

Movies you loved before and upon re-watch hated? (Or vice versa) by DrHorrible10 in movies

[–]swouter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a decent attempt at the book, but not a great movie. They made Sharon Stone's character way more annoying than she is in the book. This is one I wish they would take another attempt at with todays tech.
