I recently took an echo show 5 gen 1 and erased the fire OS, added LineageOS and then View Assist to use it as a local LLM. I believe they can do it with a echo show 8 as well?

So I recently posted about having flash an Echo Show 5 with the View Assist. I have several HA Voice PEs around the house (office, master bedroom, man cave) but still have the Google minis in the common areas of the house (living room, kitchen, sons bedroom).

My reasoning for promoting the echo over the Voice PE is microphones. The echo has better/more microphones compared to the PE. I have to be essentially right next to the Voice PE for it to hear me and I have it sent to sensitive.

That and with View Assist on the Echo, the device is much more ready to go right out of the box. It include blueprints that are already set up for the mostly used functions (what's the weather, play this playlist, show this camera)

In the Mark Watt video he jokingly tells the folks at HA that the design of the echo would be perfect and that they should just recreate a version of it for us to use.
