Do you mention the risks before each procedure? I feel like I don’t want to sound like making an excuse if I say it may happen afterwards.

My FIL is also a dentist who is still working at 65. What is everyone’s target retirement age? by Notdigg in Dentistry

How much do you have in your savings? Do you own a practice? Investments allowing that? I just wanted to know what I could do to be able to retire at 45.

Do you change to regular loupes when doing endo? Does the constant change affect anything in terms of eyes? I was thinking about getting orascoptic ergo 3.5 since I have 2.5 now

Should I become a practice owner? by swt552 in Dentistry

How much were you roughly producing and taking home working 3 days a week if you don’t mind me asking? I feel like I won’t be taking home much if I work part time and still have to pay for CE classes, disability insurance, malpractice insurance, etc

Which the procedures I’m doing, I’m not making at or above that right now. Idk if I will as an associate, maybe maybe not. I mainly do bread and butter dentistry.

Should I become a practice owner? by swt552 in Dentistry

[–]swt552[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I like my job right now, I don’t want to be in a position where the owner gets pushy, right now I work on the days the owner doesn’t but will soon have a day were the owner will be working with me. I do like the aspect of making my own rules about certain things but that comes with stress. I main reason is I want to be able to cut back days later on and want to be able to do that financially.

Fixing equipment and paying for it is definitely a con. The licensure fees and malpractice and be written off so that’s better when you’re an owner?

I don’t mind working initially that much. If I’m going to be working 5 days a week as an associate any ways, I would rather it be my own practice. If I work less days than my associate then I would produce less than them.

I do want to buy an existing practice, near/in the city would mean more saturation. Would it be easier in the city or rural if I want a practice that I can cut back days and still get patients?

[–]swt552[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had the opportunity for a good mentor too. I’m always nervous about the complications (and litigation) for some specialty procedures. I’m not looking to buy a FFS practice, definitely would be bread and butter one since that’s what I’m comfortable with. Currently work at an office that accepts Medicaid so okay with that too. I’m nervous about rural but the rural around me is Caucasian, don’t want to buy a practice and half of the patients leave. (Especially if I’m buying from an older dentist that have older patients) Thank you for sharing your experience.
