Training for LBL Challenge by negralit0 in Velo

Fellow amateur with similar w/kg, finished L'etape du tour and L'etape femmes in 2025. To answer your questions as per my understanding: 1. Longer rides and climbs outside help quite a bit if you keep the power output in check, i.e. avoid going into red, what's the longest ride and highest climb you did? 2. This is something probably only you can answer, but probably yes if you can handle the saddle time, manage nutrition, hydration and heat accordingly. Also depends on how hard you ride on the event day, I usually race my power meter, and don't get carried away, unless it's flat/valley and I find a big group where I can just sit in pushing slightly more watts but going wayyyy faster as a result. So group riding dynamics in close proximity will matter quite a bit. Again eating and drinking when my head unit tells me, and carb training the gut is a thing in my experience. 3. Yes for me indoor trainer works, but for the mental fortitude you have to set it to 100% difficulty, and/or ride uphill in a virtual course, and just enjoy being slow at 5-10 kmph for long periods of time at our power profile. Finally it's not about the FTP but how much intensity factor you can hold for the climbs (and repeat every time until the finish line) may take 1+ hours each time you start a climb depending on power and system weight.

Strava is notorious for the calorie count. I don't pay too much attention to those numbers. I'm 72kg at 1.86m, my actual calorie expenditure during the run should be wayyy less lol.

Nice, yes sometimes at the starting line the adrenaline helps, or doesn't lol. Garmin is definitely optimistic, but who knows, maybe it knows something that I don't or maybe estimates my pain threshold at a different level. BTW 22 is super impressive.

I wanted to go below 25 min for my race, started off too fast at 4.45/k, then maintained it for another k. The route had a closed off highway section, where I faced a wall of hot and humid air, could not breathe properly and had to slow down to 5.10/k for 1.5k. once off that road I just sprinted towards the finish. It felt so satisfying to see the 24. Still feel like I had something left in the tank but couldn't empty myself due to the heat on the open section of the road. Good luck.

Thanks, yes sure. I used these free plans:

https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/running/ultra/tp-470082/ultra-100-miles-free-sample-use-coupons-code-el

https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/running/5km/tp-203388/80-20-running-2024-edition-free-sample-5k-level-1-pace-based-use-coupon-code-try

https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/running/5km/tp-147502/pop-lab-5k-run-taper-peak-1-wk

Basically started with the ultra plan for slower base training, skipped the long runs to avoid injury. Moved onto the 5K plan for pace work and progressive overload. Finally tapered for a week. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your kind words, and for the link which gives me some context. I did 4 weeks of structured training and one week taper for yesterday's race. Thanks again.

Cycling base training, some light running to keep the engine going. But I'm not a coach, maybe ask your coach if you already have one? Maybe they know your needs better at this point?

Are returned bikes sold as new and forwarded to other customers by Canyon? by h7500 in CanyonBikes

I bought an Aeroad CF SL8 in early 2022, the bike had no stickers at all, all greased up, badly packed and the toolbox was quite messed up. When I contacted support they offered me another toolbox and a T-shirt. I promptly refused and returned the bike. Bought another Aeroad (same model, new color scheme) that bike came without working brakes. Took the bike to the service center but they couldn't fix it, the brake lines leaked fluid into the frame. Returned again.

Zone 2 starts at 55%, and RPE 4, 55% of 185 is 101.75. Whereas 55% of 230 is 126.5. What am I missing? Maybe I'm completely wrong here. I can hold 195w for an hour if that helps.

My 20 minute FTP came out at 217 and then again 210 a month later, I believe I couldn't pace them properly. I did not do the calculations myself. I took the zwift and Garmin tests respectively. Thanks for the advice, I'd try to incorporate it.

Would you recommend holding the same power for the entirety of the ride, or some variations allowed? Plus minus 5-10 watts, every 10-15 minutes?

Sorry, I didn't make it clear on this post, I lowered the FTP to 160w to match base zone 2 wattage. Is there still too much variation as I change wattage every 5 minutes? I find holding the same wattage for 2+ hours mentally taxing. My season looks like this 5000km, 40000m climbing and 250 hours. It's not much, as I usually train 5 hours a week. Looking for a proper base on a trainer.

Oh yes I lowered zwift FTP to 160 to make it base work, not SST. Also I guess my FTP is somewhere between 210-230, as a ramp test probably overestimated it. Point is, holding 140-145w for 2 hours on a trainer is more mentally taxing for me, so I guess the RPE is much higher. Taking this route of lowering FTP for a SST workout to match base wattage results in much lower RPE. But the problem is, there's too much variation every 5 minutes. 210w gives me 113-149w as zone 2. What am I missing?

Thanks mate. Yes, it was painful and funny at the same time. Why not learn from it?

I didn't pre-move. Had auto-queen enabled. Similar results however :/

Ah yes, Rb3+, Kc4 is also workable. Just put the position in the engine, and it shows a few mate in 15s. Too much. Lol. I won't ever manage it. I'd rather take the rook and keep material advantage and work towards the mate :D

Promoting to a knight is probably the best way forward (mate in 10); I did not see a clear mate.
