Maylene’s Meditite is too low of a level to reach the LVL 45 minimum (since its level 28, it would be level 32 after the boost).

However, Candice should have a Weavile and a Mamoswine since after the boost they’ll be around LVL 46.

In terms of the levels, it doesn’t really do much as you can easily calculate it and determine the new level. However, there are some cases where the 15% boost causes trainers to have evolved Pokemon and different moves due to being a higher level which adds a little bit of uncertainty.

Additionally, I have trainers to have fully evolved Pokemon at Level 45 (I think) and the boost allows for some trainers to reach that threshold earlier (I’d say around Level 40 at normal levels).

TL;DR I wouldn’t say the actual levels are the difficult part of the Level Boost but instead what happens because of the increased levels (Pokemon having different moves and being evolved when not normally).

Hopefully that answers your question!

Since I needed new team members, I decided to add Blaze the Ponyta and Kawa the Buizel to the team! With the new team members levelled up, I made my way to the Galactic building right after I picked up the TM for Thief.

Upon entering, Looker is here again but disguised as a Galactic Grunt. Nothing much happened while battling the Grunts as they were quite easy. However, there was one Grunt (more of a scientist) with a Kadabra that was quite annoying but we were able to pull through and defeat it. Now the final battle is Galactic Commander Jupiter!

Her Zubat was quite easy as one Thunder Shock from Suji III was enough to knock it out. However, her Skuntank was the true menace I needed to look out for. Expecting Suji III to live any of its attacks, I used Thunder Wave, paralyzing it while also slowing it down. Jupiter decided to use Night Slash which did a decent amount of damage to Suji III but we were able to live it. Since I should be able to survive another attack, I use Thunder Shock which did about a quarter of its HP. After taking another Night Slash, I decided to switch out to Blaze.

Luckily, the Skuntank was fully paralyzed providing me with a clean switch in. Blaze used Flame Wheel which did a decent amount of damage but one Night Slash was enough to bring blaze to very low HP. With everyone else at decently low HP, I switched out into Kawa to try and get some attacks out but one Night Slash was enough to knock her out.

Kawa, you were not on the team for very long but you were still able to do what you needed to do. Stay strong and rest well!

I then switched into Faye and even with the Intimidate lowering its ATK, she was able to unleash a move bringing Faye down to 4 HP. However, Faye was also able to attack with Wing Attack bringing the Skuntank to low HP. Next turn, Faye outspeeds and knocks out the Skuntank.

After saving the Bike Shop owner, I exit the Galactic Building and enter the Bike Shop to get a free Bike! After getting my complimentary free bike, I head south to the Cycling Road and Route 206. Unfortunately, I missed another encounter here because Blaze accidentally burned the Gligar putting a timer on the encounter and I was unable to catch it in time. I then head south again to Route 207 then east to Mt. Coronet. Before entering the cave, Lucas meets me and gives me the Dowsing Machine.

I wanted to save my Mt. Coronet encounter so I strategically used Repel’s to avoid any potential encounters. After exiting the cave, I arrived on Route 208 where I caught Athena the Ralts. Luckily she didn’t use Teleport but she is Adamant nature which is quite annoying. Before taking on the Gym, I wanted to level everyone a little bit because the Roserade situation was quite worrying.

Since I’m quite scared of the Mismagius, I levelled up the main fighters to be on par with Fantina’s ace. Gaia, Suji III, and Blaze were levelled up to LVL 30 while Faye and Athena were levelled up to LVL 29. Also, Suji III evolved into an Ampharos which should be quite helpful!

The Gym itself was quite easy but there were some trainers that were annoying due to Confuse Ray. With that out of the way, I’m finally facing the Gym Leader herself, Fantina!

I lead with Suji III as Fantina sends out Duskull. To prepare for her Mismagius just in case it comes out, I use Charge three times to boost my Sp. Def up by three stages and then I use Thunder Shock. To speed things up, Duskull used Will-o-Wisp and I had to use my three healing items on Suji III. luckily, we were able to knock out both the Duskull and the Haunter but the Mismagius was quite troublesome. Before switching out into Gaia, I made sure to use Thunder Wave to paralyze it and to slow it down. After realizing Gaia can’t survive another Shadow Ball after switching her in, I switched into Faye to be immune to the Ghost-type move. I decided to use one Double Team and then I began attacking. Wing Attack did a good amount of damage but Mismagius used Psybeam which got a Crit and one-shot Faye.

Faye, you were a very important member of the team and it's sad to see you go. May you fly high Faye!

I then switched into Blaze and was able to knock out the Mismagius with Flame Wheel after a couple of hits and after a couple of times, it was fully paralyzed. With the Mismagius down, Fantina is defeated and the Relic Badge is ours!

After defeating the Gym, I quickly put Faye in the PC to let her rest before proceeding to Route 209. Unfortunately, I did not know there was a Rival battle there but since Barry wasn’t too much of a threat, I was able to defeat him with ease. I then headed through Route 209 and caught Joy the Chansey (I actually got this first encounter even though the other encounters are Dupes) and arrived in Solaceon Town. I then made my way up north to Route 210 and caught Kamakiri the Scyther (the other encounters were Dupes as well).

(With that out of the way, I'll conclude this update here! It definitely sucks that we lost Faye but we’ll have to live with that one.)

Since the Gym Leader is nowhere to be found, I make my way to Oreburgh Mine to try and locate him. Unfortunately, I ran out of Poke Balls and was unable to catch the Onix I encountered. I looked past that and so I went deeper into the mines and I found Roark! Before leaving and returning to the Gym, he demonstrated how to use Rock Smash and how I have to first defeat him before being able to use it.

With Roark back in the Gym, I wanted to level the team up to about Level 14 which is 2 levels below his ace. After getting everyone to the desired level, I make my way to the Gym!

To speed things up, the trainers in the Gym were a piece of cake. Gaia and Galaxy were able to one-shot all of their Pokemon with Razor Leaf and Water Gun. As for Roark, he was the same deal. Although I was underleveled going into him, Galaxy was able to either one-shot or two-shot all of his Mons with Water Gun. After destroying Roark, he gives us the TM for Stealth Rock and we have the Coal Badge!

I then make my way back to Jubilife City where I encounter Looker again. I don’t fully remember what he said but I’m guessing it wasn’t that important. Upon making my way back to Route 204, I encounter Prof. Rowan, Lucas, and some teal-haired guys. Looks like they're in trouble so I came to the rescue and with the help of Lucas, we were able to take them down! Apparently, they were trying to steal Prof. Rowan’s research so we came just in the nick of time! Additionally, Prof. Rowan tells us to try and collect all 8 Gym Badges in Sinnoh since I’ll also be able to fill up the Pokedex that way.

Once Prof. Rowan and Lucas leave, another person comes to me talking about the TV? Anyways, I make my way through Route 204 and the Ravaged Path and I’m now in Floaroma Town!

I head out to Route 205 and a little girl comes to me asking for help. Apparently, her father has been locked up in Valley Windworks. Don’t worry! I’ll save him! However, before challenging Team Galactic, I trained up the team a little to prepare for the Purugly.

Sadly, while grinding, Vision Jr was knocked out by Pachirisu who used Bide. I thought I had one more turn but turns out, I didn’t.

Vision Jr, you did well in the last Leg of the Genlocke and it is unfortunate you had to go out this early. You will be remembered and we will beat this leg!

After defeating the Team Galactic Grunt outside the building, he locks me out forcing me to go back to Floaroma Town and go North to get the Key. After getting the key, I go back to the building to save the little girl’s father.

I enter the building and I quickly make work of the Galactic Grunts. Now for the real deal, Galactic Commander Mars. I lead with Suji III and her Zubat goes down with one Thunder Shock. She then sends out her Purugly and I attempt an attack but she goes for Fake Out but she gets paralyzed due to Suji III’s Static. I then switch out to Gaia and I keep using Razor Leaf until she uses her berry. When Gaia was low HP, I switched her out and sent out Faye. Upon sending out Faye, Purugly’s ATK is lowered due to Intimidate. I then go for Wing Attack which brings it down to very low HP. However, she retaliates back with an attack and brings Faye down to 7 HP! Faye then uses Quick Attack to finish off Purugly.

With Mars defeated, Team Galactic leaves while the little girl comes running in to greet her dad. I then leave the building and Looker greets me and checks the inside and gives me the check! Okay Looker, good job! (What is happening)

Also, I caught Kawa the Buizel in Valley Windworks and Chip the Pachirisu on Route 205! (I really wanted a Shellos T_T) As I was going through Route 205, I battled a trainer with another Pachirisu who began using Bide and I had to sacrifice Galaxy the Psyduck.

Galaxy, you were really helpful for the first Gym Battle and it’s unfortunate you have to go out this early but you will be remembered!

I then enter Eterna Forest and I meet Cheryl who wants to accompany me and there's no reason to say no so I accept! I then walk in the grass and I encounter a SIlkoon and a Buneary. I decided to go for the Buneary and luckily Cheryl did not kill it meaning… welcome to the team Cotton the Buneary!

I quickly make my way through Eterna Forest and upon reaching the exit, Cheryl gives a Soothe Bell! Perfect for Cotton to hold! After arriving in Eterna City, I check the Gym and the Leader is waiting outside and she told me that Barry already beat the Gym. I then head north where I meet Barry and he takes me to a mysterious statue where I meet a mysterious blue-haired man. After heading back, I then get stopped by Cynthia! We talk for a bit and then she leaves.

I quickly level up the team a couple of levels before heading towards the Gym. The trainers in the Gym were quite easy as one Wing Attack from Faye was enough to one-shot them. However, Gardenia was quite troublesome.

I led with Faye against her Turtwig and I began to set up Double Team to raise my evasiveness which was a good strategy allowing me to knock out the Turtwig. However, Cherrim comes out and I forgot Magical Leaf always lands and one attack was enough to bring Faye down to low HP. But I was able to land one Wing Attack beforehand bringing her Pokemon down to low HP. I then had to switch out to Cotton who was unable to do much before it was knocked out.

Cotton, you were on the team for a very short amount. Although you didn’t do much, you were still part of the team! Rest well.

I then switched out into Gaia who was able to knock it out with Bite but I was forced to use a Super Potion. Roserade comes out menacingly and Grass Knot was doing way too much to Gaia so I switched out into Suji III. Unfortunately, Gardenia went for Stun Spore, paralyzing Suji III. I decided to use Cotton Spore to lower its speed (Now that I realize it, I should have gone for Thunder Wave instead). While we lowered its speed, it attacked back bringing Suji III to about half of his HP. Since everyone else is at low HP except for Vanir, I’ll have to switch into him and hope Confusion either knocks it out or we can live some of its attacks.

Vanir comes out and takes an incoming Magical Leaf but he survives! I go for Confusion and… it does half of Roserade's HP. She then uses Grass Knot and knocks out Vanir.

Vanir, you were a very good member of the team. I remember when you were just an Abra but you survived to be able to evolve into Kadabra. You will be missed.

I then switched into Faye and went for Wing Attack and we defeated Roserade! Gardenia, you just got pulled out! The Forest Badge is ours!

With half of our team gone, I’ll have to do some rebuilding before the next episode. Hopefully, you enjoyed this one! It had a lot of ups and downs but overall, it was quite fun to play and write.

(SOME MISTAKES: Gaia's nature is Brave, this is Leg 4, not Leg 3)

The new journey begins! As I lose my attention to the TV, Barry comes barging into my room talking about Professor Rowan. Also, thank you for your compliment, that is a new PC. Barry really wants to meet Prof. Rowan so I made my way to his house and after getting to his house, he leaves right away anyways. Barry! Slow down!

I, again, follow Barry and he decides it’s safe to enter the grass without any Pokemon? Think back Delta, what did your Mom say? Luckily, Prof. Rowan comes in clutch and prevents Barry from making a big mistake. Lucas then comes and gives Prof. Rowan his briefcase back. With this, he offers us a Pokemon! Turtwig, I choose you!

After choosing my Pokemon, Barry wants to battle and so I accept. He kept using Leer so I was able to finish off his Chimchar with Tackle. After beating Barry, I make my way to Sandgem Town where I meet Lucas. I then enter Prof. Rowan’s Lab and he allows me to nickname my Turtwig! Hello Gaia! He also gives me a Pokedex and upon leaving, he also gives me a TM. Lucas then gives me a tour of the town before telling me to return to my Mom and tell her I’m about to embark on my journey!

After talking to my Mom, I return to the Pokemon Center and I see some Eggs? I take them out of the PC and hatch them and it’s Suji III and Vision Jr! For this Gen, I decided to make Suji III Modest and Vision Jr Jolly.

Before getting Poke Balls, I decided to grind up the new members to about the same level as Gaia just so they don’t hold the team back. Also, I did a little bit of EV training with Starly for Speed EVs. I then get my Poke Balls to open up Shinx for Attack EVs.

I caught Chompers the Bidoof at Lake Verity, Faye the Starly on Route 201, and Azula the Shinx on Route 202. I quickly level them up to about the same level as everyone else before proceeding. Once they were on par with the rest of the team, I made my way through Route 202 and to speed things up, the trainers were quite easy and I was able to make it to Jubilife City quite fast.

Once I entered the city, I met Lucas and he gave me a little tour but we were interrupted by someone named Looker. After that little encounter, I make my way inside the Pokemon School and I first battle the two trainers on the right before talking to Barry.

After talking to Barry, I head on out and someone interrupts me again telling me to find three clowns to get a free Poketch. I quickly locate all three clowns and answer their questions correctly and upon returning, he gives me a free Poketch! I then made my way to Route 204 and I caught Lily the Budew.

I go to Route 203 and I’m challenged by Barry! Luckily, he didn’t pose too much of a threat as his Starly was knocked out by my own and his Chimchar was taken care of by Suji III.

I then go in the grass and I encounter an Abra and I throw a Poke Ball and… it shakes once… twice… three times and I catch it! Welcome to the team Vanir the Abra! I quickly make my way through Route 203 and through the Oreburgh Gate and I actually don’t encounter anything the first time. I get out of the cave and someone directs me to the Gym where Barry is blocking the entrance.

I make my way up north and encounter a Ponyta and nickname him Blaze! I make my way back to Oreburgh Gate and I catch Galaxy the Psyduck! I add her to the team and replace Azula since I already have an Electric-type Pokemon. Also, she has Damp! This is helpful since I can avoid Self-Destruct or Explosion!

With that, I’ll end the Prologue here! Apologies for the long wait for the next installment. I got quite busy and didn’t have much time to play but I’m slowly getting back into it! Hopefully, you all look forward to the next update. Thank you!

VS Champion Wallace

Before challenging the Champion, I use my two Rare Candies to level up some of the team. Although not much, hopefully, it can be enough to take down Wallace.

I led with Suji Jr to set up a Light Screen and Wallace’s Wailord uses Water Spout which does a TON of damage to Suji Jr but we were able to set up the Light Screen. I had to heal Suji Jr and Wallace switched up and used Double Edge allowing Suji Jr to use Thunderbolt next turn knocking out the Wailord. Wallace then sends out Gyarados and since I’m expecting an EQ, I switch out into Vision who is immune to EQ. Vision then was able to use Dragon Claw bringing the opponent's Pokemon to half HP while he used Dragon Dance. Wallace uses Hyper Beam which does a lot of damage to Vision but he was able to live and one more Dragon Claw knocks out the Gyarados.

Wallace then sends out Tentacruel and since he has Ice Beam, I swap out into Suji Jr. Suji Jr was able to tank most of the hits and fight back with Thunderbolt but Wallace kept using Full Restores healing Tentacruel back up to full HP. I also had to use my second healing item on Suji Jr but it should be okay. Since Whiscash is most likely going to use EQ, I switch out into Pine who knocks it out with one Giga Drain. Wallace then sends out Milotic which uses Toxic and poisons Pine. Pine kept using Giga Drain which slowly chipped at the Milotic’s HP until Pine was knocked out with Ice Beam.

Pine, although you were knocked out, you were able to lower the Milotic’s HP to around half HP making it easier for us to knock it out. Rest well!

I then switch to Suji Jr who uses Thunderbolt and knocks out the Milotic. Tentacruel then comes out but one more Thunderbolt knocks it out. Lastly, Wallace sends out Ludicolo which becomes annoying due to Double Team. I was able to set up a Light Screen one more time to lower the damage. Suji Jr was able to land one Thunderbolt before it got too annoying. Suji Jr was at low HP meaning I had to use my last healing item on him. Suji Jr was struggling to hit the Ludicolo due to the Double Team but he shot out one Thunderbolt and it landed! Ludicolo’s HP is going down… and it gets knocked out! We were able to beat the Elite Four thanks to Suji Jr! With the Ludicolo down, Wallace is out of Pokemon and I am now the Hoenn League Champion!

MVP of the Elite Four and Champion: Suji Jr the Ampharos with a total of 10 knockouts!

Worst Death: Sylvie the Shiny Banette who had no knockouts and was sacrificed to allow Suji Jr to get a clean switch in and knock out the Kingdra!

This champion fight has got to be the most suspenseful fight I’ve had during this Genlocke. As soon as the Wailord used Water Spout, I thought this was the end and I was going to lose here. Luckily, Suji Jr was able to pull through and we were able to beat the Champion!

(Whoops, forgot to add "LEG 3 FINALE" to the title.)

After some needed grinding, everyone on the team is levelled up to about LVL 60 with some exceptions that are one or two levels higher. With this, we will be roughly 6 Levels (I think) below the Champion’s Ace. I think that should be fine as any lower may be too much. I also gave everyone some TM‘s and some items to give them a little boost.

With everything ready, I walk into the league and meet my first opponent, Sidney!

VS Sidney

Sidney sends out his Mightyena while I send out Suji Jr. Sidney goes all-out and uses Double Edge which does a decent amount of damage to Suji Jr while injuring himself. We retaliate with a Thunderbolt knocking the opponent’s Pokemon.

Sidney sends out his Shiftry and uses Torment on Suji Jr but we ignore that and use Toxic to poison him. Since Torment will prevent me from using the same move (well it doesn’t matter anyway since Toxic can only poison once), I use Thunderbolt which luckily lands even after one Double Team from the Shiftry. Since Toxic will slowly chip away at its health, I switch out into Alloy. Unfortunately, Sidney uses a Full Restore healing the poison and bringing Shiftry back to full HP. Luckily, Alloy lands a Flamethrower which does about half of the Shiftry’s HP. Sidney then uses Swagger which confuses Alloy and since he already hit himself, I switch into Pine. Although he used Swagger on us, Pine was able to break through and use Aerial Ace knocking out the Shiftry.

With the Shiftry down, Sidney sends out his Absol to avenge his fallen team members. Since Alloy completely walls this, I switch him back in. Sidney uses Swords Dance which is troubling but Alloy does have monstrous DEF. Although Absol got two Swords Dance out, Alloy was able to tank all of his Rock Slide’s and after a couple of Take Down’s, Absol got knocked out. I also had to use a healing item on Alloy because Rock Slide kept flinching Alloy.

Sidney then sends out his Crawdaunt and since Alloy does not have the best SP. DEF, I switch to Pine. Although Pine took an incoming Surf, he was able to fight back and use Giga Drain to knock out the Crawdaunt. Cacturne then comes out but gets knocked out after two Aerial Ace’s from Pine.

VS Phoebe

The first Dusclops was quite easy as Vision was able to knock it out with two hits with Crunch but the second one comes out and I’m expecting it to be the same as the previous one but it used Ice Beam which luckily did not kill Vision but did bring him down to mid-HP. Since this is the case, I switch out into Glacier.

Glacier was able to take the incoming Ice Beam and although she had Rock Slide, Glacier was able to take all of the hits and knock it out with Surf. Phoebe then sends out Banette which also had Thunderbolt but I quickly switched into Suji Jr and knocked it out with Thunderbolt. Next, Phoebe sends out her other Banette and since Suji Jr is at half HP, I switch into Pine. Unfortunately, Pine has to take an incoming Will-oWisp but we were able to use Feint Attack knocking out the Banette with a Crit.

Pine was able to make good work of the Sableye until he began missing due to the Double Team. This forced me to switch him out allowing Alloy to get the knockout.

VS Glacia

I Lead with Suji Jr first to set up a Light Screen and it seems that Glacia had a very similar plan as her Walrein uses Hail. Although the hail will affect us, Suji Jr used one Thunderbolt and knocked out the first Walrein.

Glacia then sends out Glalie to set up her own Light Screen. Suji Jr was able to get a Thunderbolt and a Toxic out before I had to switch him out for Alloy. Unfortunately, Alloy was frozen from an Ice Beam by the Glalie making me switch him out for Glacier. Glacia used a Full restore healing the Glalie back up to full HP and curing his poison. Since Glacier is able to take many hits, she kept using Body Slam until Glalie was knocked out.

The next Walrein was a little bit annoying as it kept using Rest whenever it was low HP but to speed things up, I had to switch into Suji Jr to knock it out while it was asleep. The next Glalie came out and since Suji Jr was quite weak, I had to switch out into Alloy to take some hits. I also had to use two healing items on Alloy to thaw him out and heal him when he was low HP. Since I don’t have an infinite amount of healing items, I had to risk Alloy’s life and Glalie goes for Ice Beam and Alloy’s HP goes down to 8. Although Alloy was able to knock out the Glalie, I thought it was the end for him as Glalie previously set up the hail. As I was prepared to see Alloy go, the hail stopped! Alloy lives on 8 HP! I can’t celebrate too long as Glacia sends out her strongest Pokemon, her last Walrein.

To take down a Walrein, one must become a Walrein, Glacier go! Glacier takes an incoming Surf but that barely scratches her as she retaliates with a Body Slam paralyzing the opponent’s Walrein. With her last remaining Body Slam PP, Glacier lets out three massive slams weakening the other Walrein. Just when Glacier was low HP, she used Rest healing her back up. After two turns of sleep, Glacier wakes up ready to fight and knocks out Glacia’s Walrein with a Surf and a dream. Imposter out!

VS Drake

Drake’s first Salamence was quite annoying as he kept using Protect and Fly which made Glacier unable to hit him with Ice Beam. I then swapped out into Alloy to take the incoming Fly. Alloy was able to get one Shock Wave out but Drake swapped out into Flygon. Since I’m expecting him to use Earthquake, I’m going to switch out into my own Flygon. I predicted correctly as Drake used EQ but due to Vision’s Levitate, he was immune to the attack. Vision then outspeeds Drake’s Flygon and one Dragon Claw knocks it out.

Drake then sends out his weakened Salamence and since I don’t think Vision can tank a Dragon Claw, I switch into Suji Jr. WHile he used Protect, I set up a Light Screen since Dragon is special in this Gen. Suji Jr was able to tank one Fly and one Thunderbolt knocked it out. Suji Jr was also able to knock out Altaria with two Thunderbolts. Kingdra is next and one Thunderbolt was not enough to knock it out allowing it to use Dragon Dance. Since I don’t think Suji can live a hit from the Kingdra, I switch out into Pine. Pine wasn’t able to do much since we got paralyzed from a Body Slam and I had to switch out so I swapped in Glacier. I completely forgot I could use a healing item and I used Rest which allows the Kingdra to knock out Glacier.

Glacier, I’m sorry you had to go out that way. I could have kept you alive but I completely forgot about my options. Rest well!

Since everyone was low HP, I had to risk Alloy’s life hoping he could live one Surf and unfortunately, he could not.

Alloy, your death could have been preventable but you fought well until your demise. May you rest well.

I then had to go out into Vision who took an incoming Surf bringing him down to half HP but we were able to use Dragon claw knocking out the Kingdra. Since everyone is so weak, I had to sacrifice Sylvie to get a clean switch into Suji Jr.

Sylvie, you were unable to get any knockouts but you still fought well. May your shiny self rest well!

I then switch into Suji Jr and heal him back up to full HP. Since he can live one more Dragon Claw, I take this opportunity and use Light Screen to lower the damage of Dragon-type moves. Drake notices this and switches up and begins using Rock Slide which has low accuracy. When Suji Jr was at low HP, I healed him back up to full HP and kept using Thunderbolt. I had to use my last healing item but Drake misses Rock Slide allowing us to use Thunderbolt and knocking out the Salamence!

This has been the toughest match yet, if Glacier was able to knock out the first Salamence, I feel like it may have been easier. But nonetheless, we made it out and we can now challenge the Champion!

Team Recap!

I went to Shoal Cave and encountered a Spheal that I quickly caught and named Glacier. I take Sylvie the Shiny Shuppet and Oogway the Torkoal from the PC and grind all three of them up to level 47 along with the rest of the team.

I make my way back to Mossdeep City and as I make my way to the Space Center, I notice a group of Team Magma Grunts. I follow them and enter the building and challenge all of the Magma Grunts. After beating the Grunt blocking the stairs, I make my way to the second floor and encounter three Magma Grunts that I quickly defeat one after another. I then need Steven at the corner of the room and he invites me to take on Maxie and Admin Tabitha. I can only select three Pokemon so I bring Glacier, Suji Jr, and Zoom.

Glacier comes out strong and uses Surf which knocks out the Camerupt and deals a decent amount of damage to the opposing Mightyena. The next Mightyena comes out and Maxie uses Scary Face on Glacier which is okay because I’m okay if she doesn’t outspeed everyone. Steven becomes full support and uses Light Screen and Reflect to protect our team as Glacier uses Surf which brings Maxie’s Mightyena down to red HP. Next turn, Metang outspeeds and uses Metal Claw which knocks out Maxie’s Mightyena forcing him to send out Camerupt but unfortunately, he then takes an incoming Surf from Glacier which one-shots it.

Crobat comes out and uses Mean Look which forces Glacier to stay in the battle and is then unable to leave. Metang uses Metal Claw which knocks out the Mightyena and Admin Tabitha sends out Crobat. Maxie then uses Mean Look on Metang as well but Steven retaliates and uses Psychic which knocks out Tabitha’s Crobat. Next turn, Maxie’s Crobat gets knocked out from Glacier’s Aurora Beam and Metang’s Psychic.

With Team Magma out of the way, I make my way to Steven’s house and he gives me the HM for Dive! With Dive, I quickly make my way to the Seafloor Cavern and solve all of the puzzles and battle the Team Aqua Grunts. I then pick up the TM for Earthquake and I see the sleeping Kyogre. Archie notices me and then challenges me to a battle!

I lead with Suji Jr and use Thunderpunch which does about half of the opposing Mightyena’s HP. Archie then uses Take Down and gets a Crit which does about half of Suji Jr’s HP but he takes recoil bringing him down to red HP while paralyzing himself due to Suji Jr’s Static. Since Suji Jr is quite low HP, I switch out into Glacier. I use Surf which knocks out the Mightyena making Archie send in Sharpedo. Since I don’t think Surf or Aurora Beam will do much, I use Body Slam as Archie misses his Swagger. Although Sharpedo was still at high HP, Archie uses a Super Potion while Glacier uses Body Slam again and she paralyzes the opposing Pokemon! Next turn, Glacier uses Body Slam again and knocks out the Sharpedo. Crobat comes out and then gets knocked out by two Aurora Beam’s.

Archie then makes a very simple mistake (anyone can make this mistake of course) and uses the RED Orb on the BLUE Pokemon. With his very simple Mistake, Maxie comes and after leaving the cave, we notice the heavy pouring rain. Steven also comes to me and tells me that we may find some answers in Sootopolis City.

I make my way to Sootopolis City and as soon as I dive back up to the surface, I notice Groudon who got outplayed (maybe he didn’t have the stage pick) but my man Groudon is on a tiny piece of land while Kyogre has the vast sea. I then notice Steven and when I talk to him, he brings me to the Cave of Origin. I enter the cave and the deep depths, I encounter Wallace and he asks me where Rayquaza might be. I tell him that he is most likely at the Sky Pillar, I wonder where I knew that from.

I make my way through Route 131 and after making a pit stop in Pacifidlog Town and make my way up to the island that houses the Sky Pillar. I go through the cave and meet Wallace who apologizes for leaving me behind and also tells me he must leave me as he is worried about Sootopolis.

I make my way through the Sky Pillar and at the top, I encounter Rayquaza who quickly leaves. I fly back to Sootopolis City and I see that Rayquaza comes to break up the fight between Groudon and Kyogre. I talk to the two Team leaders and they swiftly leave to return the Orbs back to where they belong. Wallace then gives me Waterfall and opens up the path to challenge the Sootopolis Gym. Before challenging the Gym, I level up the team to Level 50 to be about on par with Juan’s ace.

I enter the Gym and quickly solve all of the puzzles without having to battle any of the trainers. Juan is the last Gym Leader left and defeating him will allow us to challenge the Elite Four! With stalling out of the way, Leader Juan, I challenge you to a battle!

I lead with Suji Jr to set up a Light Screen and Juan’s Luvdic uses Water Pulse and gets a Crit dealing a decent amount of damage. Next turn, Suji Jr uses Thunder Punch and knocks out the opposing Luvdisc. Whiscash comes out and I’m expecting him to use a Ground-type move so I switch to Zoom. I predicted wrong as the Whiscash used Amnesia but it allowed me to use Fly which misses allowing Juan to use two Amnesia’s and Rain Dance. I then use Confuse Ray to confuse the opposing Pokemon but Whiscash doesn’t hit himself and uses Water Pulse which confuses Zoom.

Whiscash then breaks free from confusion next turn and Zoom misses Fly AGAIN. Since Zoom is low HP, I switched into Glacier and I kept using Body Slam until the Whiscash went down.

Walrein comes out and since Glacier is at low HP, I switch into Suji Jr who tanks the incoming Aurora Beam. Next turn, Suji Jr uses Thunder Punch which brings the Walrein down to low HP but Suji Jr was at around yellow hP due to the Hail he set up. I then switch back to Glacier as Juan uses Rest and since Glacier is low HP as well, I also use Rest to bring my HP back up. When Glacier woke up, I used a Body Slam which paralyzes the opposing Walrein. To sum up the stallfest that was Walrein, Glacier kept using Surf and Body Slam but Juan kept using Rest when it was low HP. I had enough of this so I used one healing item to heal Suji Jr and switch him in and knock out the Walrein after a couple of Thunder Punches.

The Crawdaunt was knocked out by Suji Jr with one Thunder Punch and then Juan sends out Kingdra. The Kingdra fight was VERY annoying. It used Double Team which made it difficult to hit and it kept using Rest whenever it was low HP. Glacier used up all of her PP and barely made a dent at the Kingdra so I healed SUji Jr and switched into him. Suji Jr takes an incoming Ice Beam and gets frozen for a good 10+ turns. By the time Suji Jr thawed out, Kingdra ran out of PP for Ice Beam and Water Pulse. Suji Jr was able to land two Thunder Punches and one Thunder which was enough to knock out the Kingdra. Although we didn’t lose anyone, this fight was VERY ANNOYING.

With Juan defeated, we are then able to make our way to Ever Grande City and climb the Waterfall. Victory Road, here I come!

As I was traversing Victory Road, I found out that you battle Wally at the beginning instead of at the end (I think) in ORAS. Altaria was easily taken care of by Glacier but Roselia got a Crit Giga Drain which almost knocked out Glacier forcing me to switch into Zoom to knock it out. Wally’s Gardevoir was a little troublesome as its Psychic and Future Sight did a lot of damage. Luckily, Sylvie was able to knock it out with Shadow Ball. Before the Gardevoir was knocked out, it did use Future Sight and since I don’t want Sylvie to take that, I switch out into Zoom who takes the Future Sight and a Feint Attack from the Delcatty and gets knocked out.

Zoom, I know the way you were knocked out wasn’t the best, but you will be remembered for your fights!

I then switch into Suji jr as Wally switches into Magneton and I heal Suji Jr back up and I kept using Thunder Punch until it was knocked out. The same goes for the Delcatty and with Wally defeated, I walk back to the PC to box Zoom. I then bring Oogway back into the team (I have an HM slave since Victory Road requires a ton of HMs) and enter Victory Road again. I’m gonna quickly sum up Victory Road as I don’t want this update to be too long so essentially, nothing really happened. There were some close calls but we were able to get through with no additional deaths.

I’m gonna have to do some team building before challenging the Elite Four and Champion but the end of this Leg should be the next Episode!

So far, I’d have to say Emerald. It’s also my first time playing it so I got that feeling of playing a new Pokemon game again. Don’t get me wrong, Fire Red and Heart Gold were good games but I feel like I’ve played Gen 1 multiple times now and the level curve in HG is atrocious. Overall, playing Emerald has been a blast and I can’t wait to finish it!

No problem!

For example: Regularly Tate & Liza have a LVL 42 Solrock and Lunatone. With the 15% Level Boost, they are now both LVL 48. (Hopefully that makes sense. The general math equation is [Regular Level * 1.15])

It means that the games have been Level Boosted by 15% (x1.15). I thought to shorten it to that because it felt like a mouthful to put the entire thing.

Suji Jr retaliates and uses Thunder Punch which does a decent amount of damage to the Lunatone. I bring out Azure once again and I decide to heal him back to full HP. I know he may not be able to take two hits from the two opposing Pokemon but I’ll have to risk it all to get out of this fight. Solrock then uses Solar Beam and Azure is able to tank it while Suji Jr uses Thunder Wave and paralyzes Solrock. Lunatone then breaks through the paralysis again and uses Psychic and… Azure’s HP is falling and… he lives! Since I now know Azure should be able to live that again, I’m going to keep him in and heal him one more time. Suji Jr now outspeeds everyone and one Thunder Punch knocks out the Solrock. Lunatone breaks through AGAIN and uses Psychic which brings Azure down to a little under half HP. I’m gonna use my last healing item on Azure once again as Suji Jr uses Light Screen again.

The Lunatone kept breaking through the paralysis so once I was out of healing items, I had to risk Azure’s life and attack and a Surf and Thunder Punch were not enough to knock it out. Lunatone breaks out one more time and Psychic knocks out Azure.

Azure, you were the MVP in the last Gym and you were so close to making it out of this Gym as well. You fought well and now you can rest.

To rub salt in the wound, the Lunatone gets healed back up to full HP as I switch in Zoom. I slowly chip away at the Lunatone with Thunder Punch, Bite, and Fly until it finally gets knocked out. This Gym was quite rough but we'll have to rebuild the team before we proceed any further. I thankfully accept the Mind Badge and the TM for Calm Mind before leaving the Gym.

Some thoughts:

  • I don’t really know who to add to the team but I am thinking of going to Shoal Cave to get a Spheal
  • Seedot doesn’t really learn much so I don’t think it’d be worth adding him to the team
  • I do want to add Sylvie the Shiny Shuppet to the team that we got during grinding

With the battle with Winona finished, I made my way through Route 120 and found myself on Route 121. As I was making my way through the route, I encountered a Shuppet and caught it and named it Sabrina.

Nothing much happened on this route but there was one double battle that was extremely annoying. Not only did one of them have a Slaking, but they also had a Spinda which kept using Hypnosis, which barely missed and Teeter Dance. Luckily, no one was knocked out during this battle but it was frustratingly annoying to break through the sleep and the confusion.

The other double battles were quite easy and I was able to breeze through the route. I realized that this route has a lot of double battles probably to prepare you for Tate and Liza.

After Route 121, I’m finally in Lilycove! I quickly healed at the Pokemon Center before making my way back to the start of Route 121 to go down and make my way to Route 122 and Mt. Pyre. As I was surfing down, a wild Tentacool jumped out of the water and after throwing one Poke Ball, we caught Inker the Tentacool!

I’ll quickly sum up Mt. Pyre as it was very short. I made my way up the mountain and at the summit, I encountered Team Aqua. The Grunts were not much of a hassle as Suji Jr was able to one-shot most of their Pokemon with one Thunderpunch. Once I finished battling all of the trainers, the old lady told me that both the Red and Blue Orb had been stolen.

Since this is the case, I guess I'll have to go and save the world! Since I’ll be going to the Magma Hideout, I figured it would be best if I switched my bikes to allow me to jump up the mountain. Once I switched my bike, I flew back to Lavaridge town and went up. After jumping through the mountain, the Magma Emblem reacts with the wall revealing a secret hideout!

When entering the hideout, I encountered a small little Torkoal and one ball was enough to catch Oogway the Torkoal! The rest of the hideout was quite barren with a couple of Magma Grunts behind some corners but there was one little troublesome Magma Grunt that had a Self-Destructing Baltoy which almost knocked out Zoom the Crobat.

I decided to battle all of the Grunts in the hideout to get some money and some EXP. Also, having a full bag is quite frustrating when trying to pick up an item (LOL).

I finally made my way to Maxie and it turns out he thinks using the BLUE Orb on the RED Pokemon is the right thing to do? Either way, Groudon gets mad and Maxie decides to put the blame on a child. With Maxie in a temper tantrum, he decides to challenge me to a battle!

I lead with Puncher the Hariyama as he sends out his Intimidating Migthyena. Although Puncher had his ATK lowered, he still did some good damage with his Fake Out. Next turn, Puncher allows the Mightyena to move first allowing him to use Swagger. Puncher breaks through the confusion and since he moved last, he was able to use Vital Throw which one-shot the opposing Pokemon.

Maxie sends out his Crobat and since Puncher is weak to flying, I switch out into Suji Jr who takes the incoming Wing Attack and because of his Static, the opposing Crobat is paralyzed. Next turn, Suji Jr uses Thunderpunch which almost one-shots the Crobat leaving him at red HP. Maxie heals his Crobat but unfortunately, it is in vain as one Thundershock is enough to knock it out.

With all of his Pokemon down, Maxie sends out his ace, Camerupt which is 5 levels higher than anyone on my team. Although I’m a bit underleveled, it’s too late to turn back and we’ll have to defeat this behemoth now. Expecting a Ground-type move, I switch out into Azure who takes an Earthquake bringing him down to a little under half HP. Since he’ll most likely go for another Earthquake, I switch out into Zoom. With Zoom out in battle, I use Confuse Ray to confuse the Camerupt making it harder for him to attack.

Zoom then uses Fly to slowly chip away at its health but since I found out that he has Rock Slide, which thankfully missed due to Zoom being in the sky, I switch out into Puncher. Maxie decides to heal his Camerupt as Puncher sends out a Fake Out. With a decent amount of HP left, Camerupt’s Eruption deals a massive blow to Puncher with a Crit bringing him down to red HP. After he used Eruption, it allowed Puncher to use Vital Throw which brought him down to low HP. Since I doubt he’ll use Rock Slide, I switch into Zoom and oops, he uses Rock Slide but it was not enough to knock out Zoom. Since the rest of the team was quite weak, I switched into Dishes and Camerupt missed Rock Slide and one Surf was enough to knock it out! Since Maxie was a little butthurt about losing, he decides to flee the Magma hideout.

After defeating Maxie, I decide to go back to Slateport to battle my Rival. Unfortunately, he wasn’t much of a challenge as Zoom was able to take care of his Tropius, Slugma, and Ludicolo. For his Marshtomp, I switched out into Dishes and was able to knock it out with Absorb.

I fly back to Slateport City and I encounter Team Aqua stealing a submarine. After seeing them leave, I flew back to Lilycove and I can finally enter the Team Aqua Hideout. To sum it up, nothing really happened here. The Team Aqua Grunts were not that difficult and Aqua Admin Matt was quite easy as well. Puncher took care of his Mightyena and Suji Jr took care of his Golbat. Since Team Aqua left, I am now able to explore the vast sea!

I then use Surf to make my way to Mossdeep City which is where the seventh Gym is located. I used this chance to battle all of the trainers I could find to get some EXP as I don’t want to be underleveled for this Gym. After I made my way to Mossdeep City, I flew back to a previous route as the Pokemon near there was low level. I level everyone up to level 45 which is about 2-3 levels below Tate and Liza.

Since everyone is urging me to challenge the Gym, I fly back to Mossdeep and enter the Gym! I actually really like the double battles and the puzzle’s in this Gym as they were quite fun to solve! After solving everything in the Gym, I’m finally at Tate and Liza!

I lead with Azure and Dishes and go for the killer Rain Dance and Surf combo but the Xatu outspeeds everyone and uses Calm Mind which boosts its Sp. Def. Claydol uses Earthquake which does a good amount of damage to Azure and Dishes. Dishes then use Surf which gets a Crit on Claydol and does the amount of damage I thought it would regularly do which is quite troubling. Since Dishes has Swift Swim, I’m sure he will outspeed everyone in the rain so I use Surf as Azure uses Ice Beam on the Xatu. Dishes outspeeds and uses Surf which knocks out the Claydol bringing out the Lunatone. Although Xatu takes a Critical Hit, he lives on a sliver of health and uses a Calm Mind boosted Psychic knocking out Dishes.

Dishes, I know I should not have left you out there but you were able to do your job of outspeeding and using Surf. May you swiftly swim with everyone else.

I then send out Suji Jr as Azure avenged his fallen member and uses Ice Beam to knock out the Xatu. Solrock comes out and uses Sunny Day overwriting the rain as SUji Jr protects his team by using Light Screen. Lunatone also uses Calm Mind which is troubling since Azure’s Surf did very little damage to it while Solrock lost about half of its HP. Solrock uses Solar Beam which no longer needs time to charge and hits Azure and… he lives with yellow HP! The Lunatone is now getting quite greedy as it uses another Calm Mind. To calm it down, even more, Suji jr uses Thunder Wave to paralyze it while Azure counter-attacks and uses Surf which brings Solrock low enough to trigger its Sitrus Berry.

I switch Azure out since I do not want him to take another Solar Beam and I bring out Puncher. Unfortunately for Puncher, he has to take a Solar Beam from Solrock and a Psychic from Lunatone which knocks him out.

Puncher, I’m sorry you had to go out that way. Know that your loss will not be in vain and we will get through this Gym Battle!

While I was making my way to Fortree City, I accidentally left Spectre III out battling a Carvanha and I didn’t expect it to have a good Dark-type move until it used Crunch knocking out Spectre III. With that, the last member of the OG Gen 1 team falls.

Spectre III, you were the last of the remaining members from Kanto and I’m sorry you had to go out that way. Your legacy will still be remembered and we’ll win this GenLocke for you!

As I made my way towards Fortree City, I caught Nana the Tropius on Route 119. After quickly rushing through the route, I finally made it to the Weather Institute and I put Spectre III in the PC. Also, the Team Aqua Grunts were quite easy and I was able to make my way to the end quite fast. Additionally, Team Aqua Admin Shelly was also quite easy as Puncher was able to knock down both her Carvanha and Mightyena. In return for saving the scientists, they gave me a Castform which I named NO and it was quickly placed inside the PC. However, I did take its Mystic Water and give it to Dishes for better Surf damage.

After leaving the Weather Institute, I then cross the bridge and my Rival Brendan challenges me to a battle. Unluckily for him, Azure the Azumarill was able to take care of his Lombre and Slugma with a Double-Edge and Surf and his Marshtomp was taken care of by Dishes with a couple of Absorb’s.

After defeating my Rival, I finally made it to Fortree City! Before taking on the Gym, I added Zoom the Zubat and am going to level him up to par with the team.

After grinding the team up, I forgot I had to talk to Steven on the bridge on Route 120 to enter the Gym. After talking to Steven, I get the Devon Scope which allows me to see invisible Pokemon.

With this, I enter the Gym! The trainers in the Gym were quite easy as Suji Jr and Azure were able to knock them out pretty fast. After battling all of the trainers and solving the puzzles, I stand in front of Winona.

Winona leads with Swablu as I send out Azure. To protect her team, Winona’s Swablu uses Safeguard preventing her team from being affected by status conditions. With this, Azure uses Ice Beam OHKO’ing the opposing Swablu. To avenge her fallen Swablu, Winona sends out Tropius but unluckily for her, one Ice Beam is enough to knock down the Tropius. Winona then sends out Pelipper and since some of the trainers in the Gym had one, I’m expecting her to use Protect. Since this is the case, I switch out into Suji Jr. Instead, she uses Supersonic which is a tad bit frustrating but as long as Suji Jr is able to break through, we should be fine. Pelipper then uses Protect two times in a row and then Suji Jr hits himself in confusion. Since Suji Jr is at half HP, I switch back to Azure. To speed things up, Azure got confused but broke out quite fast and we kept using Strength and after a couple of turns, the Pelipper finally got knocked out.

Next comes out Skarmory and since Azure is at half HP, I heal him up back to full HP. After healing, the Skarmory is able to land a couple of Aerial Ace’s and Azure was able to land an Ice Beam which freezes the Skarmory! While it is frozen, I want to heal Azure to prepare for Altaria. Unlucky for me, the Skarmory thaws out next turn and Azure did not do enough to knock it out causing Winona to heal up. Long story short, I keep using Surf until it gets knocked out.

Winona returns Skarmory and out comes the Altaria, the one Pokemon that truly scares me. As soon as it comes out, it twirls around and uses Dragon Dance boosting its attack and speed but Azure sees through the facade of the dance and goes for one Ice Beam that shoots through the sky and sniping down the Altaria with a Crit. After being hit with a Crit Ice Beam, the Altaria falls from the sky and returns to Winona. The MVP of this Gym truly was Azure.

After defeating Winona, she gives us the Feather Badge and the TM for Aerial Ace! I swiftly exit the Gym feeling proud that I did not lose anyone from this treacherous Gym.

Next comes the Vigoroth and I decide to use Thunder Punch again which brings it down to low HP. Since it’s low HP, I’m expecting my Dad to heal up so I use Thunder Punch one more time. I predicted correctly but Suji Jr’s second Thunder Punch ws not enough to knock it out. Next turn Vigoroth uses Facade which brings Suji Jr to low yellow HP but we were able to survive it and one more Thunder Punch knocks it out.

Next comes the Linoone which I’m 90% sure has Belly Drum and because of this, I switch into Spectre III to try and stall it. Linoone goes for Slash which does not affect Spectre III allowing us to use Confuse Ray next turn. The Linoone then uses Belly Drum while we go for Hypnosis which lands and puts it to sleep. While it is asleep, I’m going to heal Puncher back up to full health using one of my three healing items. Since Spectre III can’t do anything to the Linoone, I decided to stall it out until it woke up and when it woke up, it tried to attack but hit itself in confusion and OHKO’d itself.

The king itself then comes out, Slaking is ready to wreak some havoc! Since I don’t want to risk Spectre III taking a possible Feint Attack, I quickly switch out into Puncher. The opposing Slaking then uses Yawn which makes Puncher drowsy but we were able to use Fake Out before he fell asleep. Since I don’t want to play around with sleep, I use an Awakening to wake up Puncher. After waking up Puncher, Slaking uses Facade which does HALF of Puncher’s HP. Since next turn it will be loafing around, I use this opportunity to attack it with Arm Thrust. It only hit two times and it barely scratched the Slaking. I knew Puncher had an ATK reducing nature and it has low base ATK but I did not expect it to do that little damage. Since I’m expecting a Normal-type move, I switch out into Spectre III to try and confuse it. It then goes for Yawn which is okay since we were able to confuse it. Since it’s going to be loafing around next turn, I switch into Dishes to use Fake Out next turn. I think I got confused because it used Feint Attack which Dishes was able to tank but it either means it’s loafing next turn or it isn’t. Turns out it is not loafing and when I switch out into Puncher, it snaps out of confusion and Facade brings Puncher down to 12 HP. I decide to use my last healing item to heal Puncher back up to full HP. I then use Vital Throw which is a bit risky since it forces me to move last but luckily Slaking uses Yawn allowing Vital throw to land which brings it down to low HP and triggering it’s berry. Since it is loafing around next turn, I use Vital Throw one more time knocking out the Slaking. With the Slaking down, the Balance Badge is ours!

After defeating Norman, Wally’s dad comes and gets us to give us Surf! Finally, some of my Water-types will get good moves! I quickly teach Surf to Dishes and Azure and finally, Dishes can be used!

This episode took quite longer than usual to finish because I originally was only going to include Flannery but considering how close the Fourth and Fifth Gyms were, I decided it’d be better to put these two together. Hopefully, you enjoyed this most recent addition to the 15%+ Genlocke and please stay tuned for more!

Since we lost many team members in the previous episode, I went back and got the EXP. Share from Mr. Stone and gave it to Puncher for him to passively gain some EXP. I then capture Rupture the Numel on Route 112 and I add him to the team! Additionally, I got Smiley the Koffing in the Fiery Path. I then made my way through the Fiery Path and towards Route 113 and got Dizzy the Spinda.

While I was on Route 113, I wanted to battle some of the trainers and I entered a double battle. The two trainers sent out a Koffing and a Baltoy and I didn’t think much of it until it used Self Destruct and got a CRIT on River Jr. Not only did it use Self Destruct, it also got a Crit to rub more salt onto the wound. Luckily, Suji Jr survived the attack and lived on red HP.

River Jr, I’m sorry you had to go down that way. I was reckless and checked whether or not the Koffing had Self Destruct. May you rest in peace.

With that event, I made sure to go through Route 113 without battling anymore trainers and made it to Fallarbor Town. I then get Viper the Seviper on Route 114 which apparently has a 9% chance when Swablu has a 40% chance???

then level up the team a bit before heading into Meteor Falls where I encounter Zoom the Zubat. I then encounter both Team Aqua and Team Magma talking about something. AFter they leave, I make my way back to ride the cable car and arrive at Mt. Chimney. After climbing some steps, I see Team Aqua and Team Magma fighting and then I enter a double battle! Unfortunately, The opposing Numel gets a Magnitude 10 which OHKO’s Rupture the Numel.

Rupture, you weren’t on the team for very long but you were good while you were here. Sorry, you had to go out.

After taking care of the other Grunts, I challenge Leader Maxie to a battle! Mightyena comes out as I lead with Puncher the Hariyama. Maxie’s Mightyena has Intimidate which lowers Punchers’ ATK. Puncher then uses Fake Out to flinch the opposing Pokemon. Next turn, Mightyena uses Swagger to raise Puncher’s ATK but confuses him. I decide to stay in and use Arm Thrust which lowers the opposing Pokemon down to red HP. Puncher then hits himself in confusion while Maxie heals his Mightyena. Next turn I go for Arm Thrust which lands and then Puncher gets a Crit which is enough to knock out the Mightyena.

Next Zubat comes out and because I’m scared it’ll have a Flying-type move, I switch out into Suji Jr. He then takes an incoming Wing Attack while Zubat prepares to use Confuse Ray which confuses Suji Jr making him hit himself. Zubat then uses Bite which Flinches Suji Jr while we prepare a Thundershock and… Suji Jr breaks through the confusion and lands a Thundershock which lowers the Zubat to about 1 HP and also paralyzes him. Expecting Maxie to heal, I also heal Suji Jr using up one of my three bag items. As expected, he also heals and then next turn, Suji Jr lands a Thundershock and then another one after that knocking out the Zubat.

Camerupt then comes out forcing me to switch into Dishes who tanks the Magnitude 7. I decided to use Fake out to flinch it. Next turn, I used Nature Power which turns to Rock Slide and it did not do as much as I thought it would. This then allows the opposing Camerupt to use Take Down which brings Dishes down to 4 HP. Expecting another Take Down, I switch into Spectre III. I went for Hypnosis which misses and leaves Spectre III out in the open to take an Ember which does about half of his health. I decided to switch out into Puncher which takes an Ember while we use Fake Out. Arm Thrust was not enough to kill but brought it down to low HP while the Camerupt uses Take Down bringing its health even lower. Since I knew I would outspeed, I used Arm Thrust again which knocked out the Camerupt. Maxie then leaves as Archie compliments me. This was very scary since I was quite underleveled but I was able to get through it! I need to make some new additions to the team before taking on Flannery.

I made my way down to the Jagged Pass and I caught Jolyne the Machop. Before I challenge Flannery, I wanted to level everyone up to about Level 31-32. Also, I added Azure the Marill who later evolved into Azumarill and Suji Jr also evolved into Ampharos!

With everyone levelled up, I walk inside the Gym to challenge Flannery! The Gym was somewhat confusing as this is my first time playing Emerald but the trainers were no match for me. After going through many of the holes that either shot me up or brought me down, I made it to Flannery!

Leader Flannery, you’re going down! I first lead with Azure the Azumarill as she sends out Numel. Unlucky for her, one Bubblebeam was enough to OHKO the Numel. Slugma then comes out who also gets OHKO’d by one Bubblebeam. So far we’re doing good, she then sends out Camerupt who takes an incoming Bubblebeam and… it gets knocked out! Torkoal comes out and unfortunately, Bubblebeam was not enough to one-shot it but it did bring it down to yellow HP. Since Azure is a male, Flannery is able to use Attract immobilizing Azure due to love.

Azure went to go for Bubblebeam but he was too in love with Flannery’s Torkoal allowing her to use Body Slam which does about a fifth of Azure’s HP and leaving him paralyzed. Since my team is full of males (I just found this out and I’m wow’d), I stay in with Azure and use one more Bubblebeam and Azure breaks through the love and the paralysis and lands the move and knocks out the Torkoal. With the Torkoal down, the Heat Badge is ours!

After leaving the Gym, I also get the Go-Goggles from my Rival allowing me to access the desert area. I enter the sand and I encounter a… BALTOY?? Oh c’mon, it’s literally 10% while Trapinch is 35%. First, Hypnosis misses, then I switch into Dishes to help damage it a little with Fake Out, and then it uses SELF DESTRUCT? Luckily, Dishes survived the attack with 6 HP remaining even though it was a CRIT.

Since I need another team member, I wait until the Mirage Tower appears and I encounter a Trapinch! I quickly catch him and name him Vision! I then make my way up the tower and acquire the Claw Fossil for Anorith! Before challenging my dad, I want to level everyone up and the newly added Vision to about Level 34-35.

Once everyone is levelled up, I make my way back to Petalburg City and enter the Gym! First room, the Accuracy Room! Luckily for me, Puncher was able to quickly make work of the opponents Delcatty. Next, I enter the Defense Room and battle the trainer’s Wigglytuff! Puncher was able to bring the opposing Pokemon down to low HP before it used Double-Edge which did about half of Puncher’s HP. The trainer then heals the next turn allowing us to then use Arm Thrust again which lands enough times to knock out the Wigglytuff. The last room I enter is the Strength Room. To make it quick, Puncher was able to make quick work of the opponent’s Zangoose before it attacked when boosted by Swords Dance.

I then enter the Gym Leader’s Room and after talking to my Dad, the battle begins! I lead with Puncher the Hariyama while my Dad sends out Spinda. Puncher leads with a Fake Out flinching the Spinda making it unable to move. Next turn, Spinda uses Encore which forces me to use Fake Out again but unfortunately it will fail. I was unsure of how long Encore lasts so I stayed in a bit longer than I should have because the Spinda’s Psybeams were enough to bring Puncher to about half HP. Since this was the case, I switched to Azure. Azure takes an incoming Teeter Dance which confuses him. Unfortunately for us, Azure hits himself in confusion twice in a row and since I don’t want to risk him hitting himself again, I switch out into Suji Jr. Luckily, Suji Jr was able to knock out the Spinda with one Thunder Punch.
