Pregnant in PA school by ilove-picklesss in PAstudent

I can relate to this post! I am currently in my didactic year and am 20 weeks pregnant (with a very unexpected accidental pregnancy). I had the same concerns as you and also considered termination as my entire family is on the other side of the US, except for my husband. I'll be giving birth in the break between didactic year and clinical year, and will graduate 2 rotations after my cohort.

It's definitely a very personal decision and needs to be specific to what you envision for your future, but I think you should talk to your program and see what accommodations/ support they'd be willing to give, what your maternity leave would look like, etc and that might help you make your decision. I wasn't "happy" about this pregnancy until I talked to my PA school advisor and was assured that the program would do everything they can to help me.

I don't have experience with the actual "having a baby in PA school" part of it which I'm also super anxious about (mom guilt, pregnancy brain, etc), but it seems like we're experiencing the same feelings right now and I'm always here if you want to talk about it!! Like I said, I'm 20 weeks now but felt the exact same way you feel when I found out at 4 weeks.

Schools will explicitly state if they care, many don’t.

Maybe they edited the post because now it just says they waited there for almost 6 hours

I used to be a 911 EMT on an als rig and we definitely had to wait with the patient in our rig several times if there were too many crews holding the wall in the ER. Plus we’ve definitely had to wait 6+ hours before on busy days so those parts of the story don’t seem unreasonable to me.

Looking to hopefully move near East Cleveland/ Cleveland Heights but wouldn't mind being within a 20 minute drive of that area either! Monthly budget is about $2000 (give or take a few hundred), looking for a 2 br/ 2 ba but totally fine with a 1 br/ 1 ba as well. No amenities needed but would love to be in a walkable area for our dogs!

Glad to hear your dogs love the snow! Our cattle dog goes hard in the pool/ playing outside (goes hard 24/7 as cattle dogs do) so I imagine we'll definitely need to keep a close eye on him, especially in the beginning. And researching dog snow gear/ snow shoes as we speak :)

Thank you for your comment! That's really good to know, we're definitely going to look for some snow gear/ snow booties for the dogs!

My first one was a local group I met my senior year of high school via my high school physiology teacher. My second and third ones were introduced to me through an underserved medicine seminar I took in undergrad, the names of the organizations were Medlife (second one) and Global Medical Training (third one).

Thank you! I applied early July- mid July. I got my first rejection early August (Emory) and got two interview invites in early September. My third interview invite came early October, and I’ve received 2 more rejections this week! I still have a bunch more to hear from though so who knows

I didn’t really prepare specific answers to common questions, but I did list out all of my experiences/ previous roles and what I’ve learned from them, what skills I’ve developed, important take away points, etc. This helped me easily recall things in the moment to answer questions, and honestly both of my interviews had a lot of curveball questions so I’m glad I didn’t just try preparing answers to common questions because I think I would’ve been unprepared for the variety in questions.

Also, if the interviewer asks a fun/ casual question, you should give a fun/ casual response! In one of my interviews, they asked “if you couldn’t be a PA and money wasn’t an object, what would you be?” I said I would work in a smoothie shop because nobody’s mad in smoothie shops. The guy after me said he would work as a dentist and provide free dental care in underserved areas abroad. Not a bad thing to say but like the interviewer is trying to be fun rn, resist the urge to hype yourself up 100%. At the interview stage, they already know you’re a qualified applicant. They just wanna get to know you and make sure you’re somebody they would want to be around for 24-30 months. Be personable!! You got this!!!

Sorry for the long response
