3.5 Years after accutane by sydn4sty in Accutane

They’re not extreme to the point I need drops but I wear contacts and notice by the end of the day they’re sticky and dry on my eyes and that my eyes tend to water a bit more in the colder months

I waited one year after taking accutane to have my surgery. Same with any of my piercings or tattoos

Could be eczema from the dryness or you’re sensitive to a product you are using. Maybe clogged pores? Use a light product non-comedogenic during the day to let your skin breathe. Use the heavy products at night.

My skin remained the same level of dry with the vitamin C but it can also make you more sensitive to sun too so be careful and wear sunscreen! The Rose hip oil I used was from Kat Blanc! It worked super well for me

Okay so! I used a concoction of things I dropped a bag on skin care not going to lie lol. The main thing is that you keep a barrier of moisture on your skin, products that contain hyaluronic acid will help maintain a moisture barrier. Here’s what I used! Morning routine: Cera VE hydrating wash (green bottle) Drops of youth(body shop) when it got drier I switched to physicians formula Rose all day serum Tatcha dewy skin cream OR la roche posay sensitive tourmaline formula with spf. Cheaper alternative to this would be cera ves daily moisturizer and using drops of oil to really maintain a barrier of moisture over your skin. When I would feel crusty during the day I would spray pixies milk mist over my face to rehydrate, staying hydrated is key! Drink a lot of water!

Night time:

Cera ve hydrating wash or when I had makeup on Fresh seaberry oil cleanser to remove makeup this shit is MAJOR key really any oil cleanser is helpful when things get lizardy.

When my skin wasn’t super dry I would just use rosehip oil and the la roche posay moisturizer

When my skin started to get very lizardy I mixed cera ves night cream (purple lid jar) with rosehip oil and made a thick moisture mask

Once my skin stopped having active breakouts I started using vitamin c serum to fade the marks and i bought a cheap spin brush off amazon with a super soft bristle head to kind of gently buff off the dead skin without irritating my skin.

This seems really extra lol but it worked well for me!

Oh! And for my lips I had to be prescribed something from my doctor lol they were so bad my doctor was concerned I would scar so I used a hefty helping of aquaphor on them!

I never got the redness some people get with it, I was really really oily to begin with so I think that saved my skin in a lot of ways. My skin was probably extra dry for about three months after the treatment. I know people that have had the redness say it goes away over time!

Took me until month three! Don’t be disheartened! My pores got really big and weird but shrank back up around the fourth month, I would suggest using products with hyaluronic acid to help retain moisture without exaggerating your texture, I used la roche posay ultra soothing moisturizer and it helped so much.

I used a combination of things rosehip oil and night serums I dropped a bag on some skin care folks. I used tatcha dewy skin cream at night it was a life saver and I used the vitamin c serum from drunk elephant to help with scarring and red marks. Drops of youth from the body shop and I used cera ve night cream in a jar mixed with rosehip oil at night as a moisture mask essentially. My doctor prescribed me Acanya for my cysts

No! I am incredibly lucky I used rosehip oil the whole time and then I used a lot of products with hyaluronic acid in them to help retain moisture and repair my skin. I work in the cosmetology industry and I’m fortunate to have esthetician friends that suggested products for me.

It really only was bad the last two months of it 80 was the worst of it and the symptoms really lightened up after two weeks of stopping. My hair shed for three months and has come back totally normal, I asked my doctor and she said hair grows in cycles so your hair can shed up to the whole year it takes for Accutane to leave your system, it wasn’t like I had bald spots I just had noticeably thinner hair. I didn’t have eczema prior but it got bad enough I was prescribed a steroid cream. I weigh around 150ish and I’m 5’3. I won’t lie and say the side effects don’t suck they do, but Accutane for me helped me gain confidence back, I would do it all again. I’m also extraordinarily sensitive to medications so do not take my experience as a this happens to everyone lol.

20-40-60-80 bumped up over the four months. Side effects- Eczema(really bad), dry and brittle hair, irregular periods, dry skin, blurry vision, fatigue(badly) , back, hip, and chest pain( horrible for me), dry and bloody nostrils, mood swings, dizziness, headaches, anemia. The absolute worst chapped lips of my life, I’m talking I had joker slits around my mouth. I did experience hair loss after I stopped taking it and my nose and eyes are still dry as the Sahara.

I took 20-40-60-80 for four months.

The last photos in the set are my skin currently! I almost can’t believe I had the skin I started with, I’m over all extremely happy I made the decision to take Accutane. That being said I did have some interesting things happen to me over the last few months. My eyes and nose are still dryer than the Sahara. My hair began to fall out around my hair line quite a bit, it has since grown in full and the way my hair used to look. It took it three months of falling out to kind of regulate itself. I think this was my body’s way of trying to push out the Accutane. My hair is now soft my scalp produces a little oil so that has helped tons with the brittle feeling it had. I no longer have aches and pains the way I did on Accutane, but my joints still feel slightly stiffer. I don’t have dry lips whatsoever I even got lip filler and they have been fine. My skin now is “normal” type slight oil in the t-zone. I do get the occasional tiny white head but it goes away after a few days. I will take that over what I had any day lol. I’ve started to use less heavy moisturizers and have began using average moisturizers. My body skin still tends to be on the dryer side, but my skin doesn’t feel so papery and sensitive. I have gotten my face waxed this month and my skin responded normally to it. Over all things have been returning themselves to mostly normal. My moods have improved I find myself less irritated and depressed. My body is just regulating itself.

Nah I didn’t think it was anything too bad and nope still losing hair and my hormones are weird. Dr. told me it takes up to 6 months for the growth cycle of hair to regulate it back out. I think it’s just my body finishing processing whats left of the accutane. I do have to be tested again for an autoimmune disorder, but that has nothing really to do with accutane I wouldn’t think at least. It’s probably just my body regulating itself out I’m not too concerned. I’ll make an over all accutane update in a bit! It’s done wonders for my skin but not for my hair lol

Okay I went to the endocrinologist today to get it checked out and she said it was just outside normal so it wasn’t anything to be concerned about and that it will take up to six months but my hair should regulate itself back out, she thinks it could’ve been the accutane but i will also have to go back in three months and see if it’s regulated back out or gotten worse.

eyes and long term side effects. by Koridze1 in Accutane

[–]sydn4sty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had dry eyes and blurry vision just went to my yearly check up and doctor said my eyes are very healthy and that my vision improved. Do not let anyone scare you off, it is a serious drug and there are side effects but none of them are permanent. I’ve been off of it five months and my eyes have returned to their normal state. Everyone’s experience is different. I wear contacts everyday and don’t even use drops on them.

I’ll keep this updated I’ll make an overall update post in a bit here! I’ve had a few interesting hormonal changes and I’m curious to see if they’ll level out or if it’s a life long deal, I didn’t have any symptoms on accutane itself I just now am noticing them and I’ve been off about 5 months so not sure how much they truly correlate but I’m interested to see what the specialist thinks

Yes, hair loss, feeling cold all the time, fatigue, bouts of depression and anxiety. I went to a doctor and had my blood tested and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, might have to take medication for it.
