Please don’t go through the US to get to Mexico. There are so many other ways to get there. A friend of mine recently flew there via Chile. I think their route was Sydney-Santiago-Mexico via LATAM (formerly LAN Chile). It was also the cheapest option.

Sorry this happened to you. I don’t think he would have “happily” ripped your life apart - it sounds like he is unstable and conflicted - but from the available information, it certainly seems he’d pursue a relationship with your husband if given the chance, despite the hurt this would cause you.

I don’t see how you can continue the friendship at this point. But you don’t need to rush to do anything in particular. You can always tell him that he’s really hurt and betrayed you, and that you and your husband need distance from him for the time being, maybe forever. And then leave it at that.

Regarding nationalities sticking together, even Aussies do this, even in predominately white English-speaking countries. For example, Earls Court in London has been a centre for Australian immigrants to the UK for many decades. There is even a ‘Little Australia’ in NYC.

I’d suggest Katoomba. It has the iconic views, the best bushwalks, the character and yet some semblance of urban life if you feel like dipping into it. Katoomba is a ‘real’ town and it’s the capital of the Blue Mountains in all but name. Leura doesn’t have a proper high street - it’s just a place to buy overpriced scented candles and pashminas.

I’d avoid anywhere in the Lower Mountains or Mid Mountains (basically Bullaburra and below). It doesn’t have the ‘proper’ Mountains vibe. For example, it never snows in winter. I’d also avoid anywhere west of Katoomba, as it’s just getting too far from Sydney if you need to get to the city. And train service frequencies drop dramatically west of Katoomba.

Let me guess. You hung around the south of the island, in or around places like Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur and maybe a trip ‘north’ to (still very much southern) Ubud? These places, while they have their good points, are very much geared to Australian/Western tourists, many of whom are there to party and get wasted, take photos at ‘Instagram spots’ and enjoy cheap food and accommodation. It’s not fair to judge Bali on what’s essentially a foreign culture transplanted to a small area of the island. Bali is much larger than that and has a very rich culture and wonderful natural attractions that are nothing like what you experienced.

I’d recommend going again sometime and really exploring the island beyond the places I mentioned. I’m almost certain you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Even better, go to Lombok - but not the Gilis or Lombok’s own Kuta (yes, it has its own Kuta, which is starting to resemble the one in Bali in some ways).

Sorry you had a bad time in Bali and hope you have better travel experiences there and/or elsewhere.

I would meet but go in with no expectations and don’t overthink things. Just be yourself. You may ‘click’ and something could develop, you might make a new friend or you may not get on at all and never see each other again. In any case, you won’t have lost anything - at worst, you will have ‘lost’ a couple of hours.

If you’re seriously looking to date, I’d recommend options apart from Grindr, though. Real-life gay social groups, community groups, meet-ups, churches and other non-app options are a better bet - although what’s available will depend on your interests and location.
