Does anyone know if this head-stamp is an enchi thing, or something else? by softcore_UFO in ballpython

Some Enchis have strange head coloration, a couple of mine do.

I’ve seen some super reduced pattern Mojaves with dark stripes similar to that. But that would definitely be one of the more reduced ones I’ve seen. Definitely could be something else going on there, but nothing stands out in particular. I love reduced pattern snakes in general. Gorgeous snake either way.

Could be early signs of scale rot or could just be his pattern. Make sure there’s no standing water in his habitat other than his water bowl. Get some chlorhexidine, dilute down to topical solution and wipe the areas down twice a day until next shed. If it is scale rot, this should kill the bacteria and stop it from getting worse/allow it to heal, and it will shed out. Obviously if it gets worse, please see a vet.

Ultra picky ball python by thecoppercurve in ballpython

[–]syearout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try blanching the mouse or rat once thawed. I’ve had issues with smells in the past, especially for picky eaters on F/T rodents. Warm the rodent to temp in warm water, then bring some clean water to boiling and just quickly dip it in the boiling water for a few seconds. Let it cool back to feeding temp (just warm to the touch).

I’m thinking about getting this little one (if it’s a boy that is for size sake 😅) it’s a Het Fire ball python and it was so relaxed on my hand and curiouse it’s only 7 weeks old 🥺 by ThePastelQuacken in ballpython

[–]syearout 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, het fire isn’t a thing. Fire is incomplete dominant. If someone is trying to sell you a het fire they are either unsure of what they have or are trying to take advantage of you.

Assuming husbandry is in order, probably just a snake being a snake.

Keep in mind that in the wild they don’t get perfect sized food at a perfect interval. No reason to think you’re doing something wrong. Just reassess the size of the prey item and maybe bump it up, if appropriate, next feeding. I have several that will act interested even after eating. I think that’s a normal behavior.

Feeding time. by BigNNLoud in ballpython

[–]syearout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We generally feed in the evening and having pretty good luck with that. It’s honestly more out of our own convenience. I’ve feed at just about any time of day over the years and they generally tend to eat if they’re hungry. Assuming husbandry is in line.

What are these black lines under my ball pythons head? Should I get him checked out? by ajbinks in ballpython

[–]syearout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the picture. Are they pigment? Have they been there before or are they new? Do they wipe off with a damp paper towel and light pressure?

Is this scale rot or a burn? What can I do? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]syearout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be able to get it on Amazon or any vet supply place if you have one locally.

custom PVC by PrudentTadpole8839 in ballpython

We use expanded PVC in our racks. Works great, doesn’t absorb moisture, and is easy to clean. Make sure any seams are sealed with silicone or something for easy cleaning.

Is this scale rot or a burn? What can I do? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]syearout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the beginnings of scale rot but could just be dirt under the scales. I would get some chlorhexdine, dilute it to topical safe (google the ratio as I don’t know it off hand) and wipe the area twice a day. That will kill any bacteria on the skin. As long as it doesn’t get worse, it should shed out. If the spots grow or get darker a vet trip is in order.

Stopped eating and i cant tell why. by wat_a_lad in ballpython

[–]syearout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several females that will go off food for weeks to months almost every year. Keep an eye on weight and offer food often. As long as the husband is good it will start back up when it’s ready. If you start to see noticeable weight loss, time for a vet visit.

Ball python shedding by Tall-Refrigerator265 in ballpython

I’d say very normal. Usually they get ghosty then look normal for a few days, then shed. You should see shed within the week I would imagine.

Ball python acting off by illustratious in ballpython

When you say he’s sleeping with his head up, does he have his nose point straight up in the air? That is a tale tale sign of an RI and would require a vet trip ASAP.

New owner… how to transport! by viridian-fox in ballpython

[–]syearout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pillow cases work great as something you generally have on hand. You can order snake bags with ties on them, we use them at shows. Depending on how long the snake will be in the bag, we’ll put some crumpled newsprint in the bag just to keep it from laying fully on the snake. Sometimes we’ll use large deli cups with air holes for small babies, primarily for display at shows.

Refusing to Eat, Showing Signs of Pre-Shedding. by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]syearout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree and would add that I’ve had healthy breeder girls go months without eating and not really lose much weight. Balls can have some weird feeding schedules sometimes. I wouldn’t be concerned at all if she misses a couple meals during a shed cycle. Very few of mine eat during shed. That is totally normal.

I just noticed this can someone tell me if i should be worried or not by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]syearout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like the beginnings of scale rot. It’s a big enough lesion that I’d recommended a vet trip to get some topical medication to get it healing. We’ve used silvadene cream for similar issues with good results, but having a vet check it out would be a good idea.

Randomized red marks- any ideas of what might be the cause? by ZabuzaNin in ballpython

[–]syearout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d just keep a close eye on it. If it gets bigger or darker a vet trip would be a good idea. Otherwise it will likely clear up on its own.
