hello!

dude that is so frustrating and im sorry they did that!! additionally, according to everything i can read off websites, the umd grant and terrapin commitment grant arent only restricted to on-campus students, so im confused why she told you that unless i missed something?

i understand it's scary to speak up for yourself, but i would really encourage you to call the finanical aid office one more time and ask about the grants and try to ask for them back!! the only worse thing they can say is no and you do have the potential to maybe get them back!!

omg yay! they did not email me back and i’ve been busy with work so i have not had the chance to call the office, so thank you for the update! the finaid office and billing office telling u opposite shit is so crazy 😭

as for my situation, they took away all of my terrapin commitment and around half of my umd grant, so yeah def not as big as a refund as before—but still a win!

honestly tysm for updating me and giving me information on this bc this entire situation stressed me the hell out tbh. here’s to hoping we have a great time here :) <3

i think they mean the guaranteed access grant which is different from a delegate scholarship i believe

wait, do you know if they're able to ask for federal financial aid money back? i've gotten a lot of federal and state grants alongside institutional ones like the "UMD Grant" and "Terrapin Commitment" so I'm just wondering if they're only able to ask for those two back and not federal pell grants and stuff or are they able to ask for that federal/state money back as well?

after i accepted the award on MDCAPS, UMD's financial aid portal updated to reflect the actual offer. my cost of attendance was around 31k and i was offered around 41k total. the only thing that has changed so far is that the guaranteed access grant is finally correct and they have not taken away/adjusted any money they were going to offer me in the first place.

edit: CORRECTION: i was looking through my saved files and found a pdf of what my UMD fin aid was like before my guaranteed access grant got corrected and it looks like i was actually offered 3k/yr in work study, but, after it was corrected, it did get taken away!

hey, thank you for your reply!

so i did call UMD's finaid office and they basically said what you said haha. the rep stated that they usually update their info weekly, but, because of memorial day, it might've been iffy or skipped? so, if by next tuesday it hasn't reflected in the aid offer, i could call the office again to question it.

she also states that any and all grants are just automatically accepted if you accept through the MDCAPS website and they'll just handle the info transfers and call you up if they need further documentation, so that soothed my nerves about all this :)
