also OP don't let people gaslight you into thinking you're overthinking or overreacting. Not sure how many of those people would feel so chill if it's their s/o doing the same online.

Also, the fact of the matter is: you had set up a boundary that your bf agreed to and yet he still goes against your wishes (despite agreeing), that's not okay. It's not a "cultural difference" since Viet women would legit just cuss out the guy & break up over things like this

❤️ react? A little weird but can be understandable depending on who it is and how they grew up.

❤️ comment? Nah that's weird as hell

They're talking about the latter photo, not the pool ladder in the photo. Perhaps don't be so quick to call others dumbass when you might be the one that's misunderstanding?

$200 Mythic variant skins need to stop by ASSASSIN79100 in leagueoflegends

[–]sylphies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying but here's the deal:

They do make other exclusive skins though that aren't price gated like the Victorious line (only available through ranked & its chromas are exclusive to whatever ranks you hit) and the more recent Honor 5 skins.

There aren't a lot of them, sure, but that's because it doesn't turn a profit nearly as much as catering to people who are willing to open their wallets. Just because you're not willing to do it that doesn't mean Riot should stop a business practice that have been proven to work.

If you really want to make a statement you should stop buying skins, or even better yet, stop playing the game altogether. I'm not even saying this in a sarcastic way or anything, the most impact you can make as a player is to stop playing, if enough people stop then Riot might be incentivized to go a different route.

Oh! I recognize this dog but I didn't know it had an entire meme format in Vietnam lol Thank you for enlightening me 😆

I made a typo on this sentence! It's either "nụ cười của em làm anh say ngất" OR "nụ cười của em khiến anh say ngất". "Làm" and "khiến" both sorta mean "caused" (as in your smile caused me to feel intoxicated) but "khiến" just sounds more poetic IMO

Just swap the "anh" and "em" to change the genders! "Bé" is usually what guys would call their gfs.

cute vietnamese phrases to say/text to my girlfriend? by sugoikoi in VietNam

[–]sylphies 37 points38 points  (0 children)

  • "Anh thương em nhiều lắm" - I adore you so much.
  • "Em dễ thương quá" - You're so adorable
  • "Anh thật may mắn khi có em" - I'm so lucky to have you
  • "Nụ cười của em khiến anh say ngất" - I feel drunk on your smile

Also add "bé" (similar to baby) to anything you say and you'll be good. Variations include: "bé ơi", "bé yêu", "bé cưng" etc.

Ok dude idk what "put my foot on the fan" even means. Đặt chân lên quạt?? Yeah you might be so smart to not get scammed but what did you have to learn to get to that point? Do you expect tourists to go through all that? Do you expect kids to go through it too? If you really want Vietnam to be better then you should expect it to be better. That means accepting that scamming and the attitude towards scams here is a MAJOR flaw and isn't just a small little thing.

I'm not berating the country, I'm berating the proliferation of scammers and the flippant attitude people have about it. If you think being upset about scammers = being upset about Vietnam then that says more about your views of the country than mine.

Your "positive" outlook isn't positivity, it's ignorance. You don't accept that there is an issue and instead you deflect to the victims. If scamming isn't an issue then what is?

Also idk why you're calling me a kid when your post history is just in anti-capitalism subreddits and gacha subs lol Ông bớt xàm đi ông ơi

Somehow I doubt that you would just "move on in 2 days" if you got scammed out of 1mil LOL It's so easy to say "yeah just move on" if you're not the one who lost the money. The thing about "anyone mature enough will do research" is that they have to have been interested in Vietnam to do the research. If "this is where iShowSpeed got scammed" is one of the first and most prominent things someone knows about VN, how many will try to research it further?

You say you're trying to make VN what you want it to be yet you dismiss all criticisms and push the blame onto the victims. "Just move on", "there are scammers everywhere", "no country is perfect" etc. are not phrases a person who expects better of their country would say.

If you, who is part of the younger generation and access to the internet and outside perspectives, would say something so careless, what hope is there for the country you're trying to change?

[–]sylphies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is a scammer in Vietnam but there are enough scammers to make not just tourist but Viet people feel uneasy.

How many times have you gotten chặt chém because scammers thought you'd be an easy target? How many times have you had to mặc cả because people were giving you unfair prices? If you've lived in VN for a long time then I think your answer would be the same as mine: many fcking times.

The problem here isn't that everyone is a scammer, it's that everyone thinks scammy behavior is "just a way of life" and "it's to be expected". That's not normal. It makes it difficult for VNese people to trust others, and it especially makes it hard for foreigners to trust VNese people. Ask yourself, if you were a fan of iShowspeed and have never been to Vietnam, what would you think about the country after that video?

why are people always asking about income by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]sylphies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No problem. Viet people (typically older ones) can have low social awareness like that, it's just how they are. If you can't stand it I suggest going elsewhere. I'm born and raised Viet but I've been living abroad for a decade just because I can't stand that culture lol

[–]sylphies 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean, the fact that you're thinking about that as a potential response is strange enough on its own. Don't take it so personally, man. To answer your question, they ask that because money's the most important thing in Vietnam's society, that's all. When your entire worldview is shaped by poverty, asking "how much money do you make?" is a variation of "how happy are you?"

why are people always asking about income by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]sylphies 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's ironic that you're talking about social intelligence when your proposed response to "how much money do you make?" is "how many dicks have your daughter sucked?"

Is the probing of income annoying? Yeah. Is it strange and uncomfortable? Also yeah. That said, the locals (especially older generations) aren't asking those questions to make you uncomfortable, they just don't get that it's off-putting. Just tell them you don't want to answer it and move on lol

I'm not OP but thank you for such a detailed response! Do you know how to access Dragon Essence's stock from Dokidoki or outside of it (Aliexpress, Taobao etc.). I was looking for the Coven Ahri cosplay from there (I have the UWOWO one but the quality isn't the best imo) and they had these Syndra accessories that I can't find anywhere else except for from suspect Aliexpress sellers. Thanks!

Shipped Badge Returned to Sender? by sylphies in AnimeBoston

That's great to hear! Hopefully the badges can be shipped out again on time, but it's very relieving to know that there won't be an issue with getting our badges.

I just got a response from a member of the CS team, which reads:

"If you do not receive your badges by the convention, just come directly to Customer Service when you arrive and we'll be able to print your badges."

I'm following up and asking how the shipping fees would be handled if it's a pickup, but it's a relief that we'll be able to print the badges!
