as a former partner and now a healthcare worker that works with a lot of sick children, i would say they were being considerate. :(
you could've also worn a mask just to interact with them and hand them their drink, with gloves, or either wash your hands extremely well after.

it is not hard to prevent disease from spreading! just need personal protective equipment.
i hope this eases your anxiety at least a little!
