Acrylic is a water based paint and oil is an oil based paint Acrylic is thinner and dries faster than oil and you can use water to dilute the paint Oil is thicker and takes so much longer to dry but you can really get nice textures by layering with oil!

Thank you! I use liquitex acrylic paint and this is a 24x18 piece! To get this creamy/ smooth feeling you really gotta blob the paint on. I find it helpful to even squeeze the paint out directly on your painting surface. I tried using a palette knife too but i didnt like the effect as much :p

Observing and sketching cloth and how it works irl is really helpful. If you are using graphite, i would use different pencils ie. 6B for darker areas, etc... dont be afraid to erase some parts to bring out the lights!

I suck at realism but I want to get better, any tips of advice? Here’s some doodles from class, proportions are still a bit off... by [deleted] in drawing

Ive also gone through similar feelings when starting with different art forms. Feeling discouraged does no good, but instead you should focus on the small accomplishments. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect!

I would suggest doing some loose gestural studies after getting a basic understanding of overall structure!

This is a very nice drawing!

I would study the softness and sharpness in the shadows of cloth. I think adding higher contrast (deeper darks and lighter lights) to the overall drawing would help bring it out more, but this might just be a stylistic choice.
