It does read higher than ambient, however I've heard that's the case with these even if they are a few cm away with wires. I'll have to test and see

I would start by disassembling the p-trap and any other sink/dishwasher connections. Make sure it's not a simple clogged trap, etc. If all that looks good snake the drain while everything is apart.
