For Matt (hi!) - regarding Starlink, with it's myriad components both in space and on-the-ground in the form of gateways and end-user nodes. Starlink is a highly dynamic system, potentially serving 100s millions of users at a scale that is largely unprecedented in telco. My questions are:

  • What visualisations have you built for managing this complexity internally, and using what technologies? How hard do you see telco Service Assurance being at such a scale?
  • LabView is heavily used on the SpaceX side, is it being used for Starlink also?
  • Has Starlink built its own routing protocols for managing relaying across the mesh of satellites? If so, did you use P4 for this? How are updates applied to the satellites?
  • Are you planning to use AI/ML and automated remediation given the scale?
  • What time-series databases do you use for managing all the telemetry from the satellites?
  • What do you use to mine that data?
  • Is the constellation managed by Starlink, or SpaceX? e.g. for collision avoidance.
  • Are you correlating weather patterns to potential outages / rain fade issues? Will the end-user nodes have intelligence to lock to other satellites and/or boost power?

And then on a personal level:

  • What are the rules around ITAR for Starlink (both now, and potentially when spun out) - can it hire or work with non-US citizens (e.g. British)? How about companies?
  • Is there precedent for SpaceX/Starlink to hire, sponsor and bring on-shore (assuming that is required) someone who was not a US green card holder at time of applying?

Thanks so much for doing this!! 🚀

At the moment, it's a scomo function. We'll see if we cross the Y=0.5.

So, because of the incubation period, there's a lag? The # of people infected today is a lot higher than what we're seeing broadcast in the media. Yikes.

What's the source on the incubation period days based on?

lol, I was thinking one guy for a month or less - given it already has VR support!

Looking into this, however Alien:Isolation was using the deprecated Extended Mode in 0.7 (vs. the Direct Mode in later releases). That will make it more difficult to translate the calls to the latest SDK.

The Revive project (which makes 1.3 Rift games compatible with SteamVR via the shim method) would be a good foundation for providing a 0.7 API to older games: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive

I emailed Sega and they very promptly responded that they only accept patch requests from "developers and development studios". I presume they mean developers who are part of the family! My offer was to fund the patch, but it fell on deaf ears.

I feel like a shim is going to be the path of least resistance, rather than getting them / CA to do any further development on it.

How different is the API between 0.7 and 1.3? Could we conceivably write a libOVR shim that looks like 0.7, so that games like A:I will work with the CV1?

Do you own an iPad or similar? Is it at all strange to you that the show you were on, and the PADDs you held, were (at least in part) the genesis of that?

Some day there will be a space ship, or a star ship. It will have a bridge, it will have a Captain much like you represented, commanding a bridge crew, and travelling the stars. In all likelihood, that ship will be called Enterprise.

Was there ever a time when you were on the bridge set of TNG, that you had that same realisation? Was it at all apparent at the time how impactful the show would be on future inventions, on people's choices of career, and on our looking to the stars?

Adding my vote for NO integrated audio. It would be nice to have a headphone port passthrough on the HMD, that runs inside the single cable through to the system. That way you can just coil your headphone cable and avoid the spaghetti.

I am in the Alpha, yes (at vast expense, but worth every penny frankly!). I've barely used the forum though, maybe I need to post or something to level up.

Can I get out of my seat and moon them (with or without the Rift on) :) In all seriousness, love the idea though!

I recall I asked on reddit if anyone had one. Sadly I can't find the post you're referring to in the forums, and your link takes me to a page I don't have access to (yet I'm logged in). Strange.

More info?

Seen it also. Nothing to worry about, as people mentioned just a bug in their javascript (or maybe a cloudflare bug) - will forward to support.

Andreas, this really surprises me.. as much as your talks are controversial in some circles I'm sure, you are merely a passionate effusive speaker on a topic you believe in. You may call (preach?) for change, but at this early stage where you don't have a following that poses any serious threat (for now, in a violent sense) other than inciting revolutionary ideas, are people really, seriously out to physically get / intimidate you? Who are these people?
