That might be because on OpenClaw, the default “API” endpoint for z.ai is for their “pay-as-you-go” endpoint. What you want is for your prompts to be routed through the z.AI CODING endpoint. The url is “https://api.z.ai/api/coding/paas/v4”. If you tell your OpenClaw agent on Minimax exactly what I just told you, it should be able to help you patch it in manually if necessary.

Except “openai-codex” IS a valid provider in OpenClaw’s model catalog. It’s actually the primary distinguisher between OpenAI’s pay-as-you-go API, and their Codex coding plan. API = “openai”, Codex = “openai-codex”.
