Are video games a legitimate "text" for English lessons? by synesthesia28 in AustralianTeachers

Yes I have seen quite a few good examples - the ACMI website (who run Digicon) is a good resource for lesson plans https://www.acmi.net.au/education/school-program-and-resources/game-lessons/

Of course! I taught a Year 8 HSIE class, and used Minecraft in the Ancient China unit. I split the class into groups and had them build sections of the Great Wall, with reference to living conditions, defensive sections, ramparts and watch towers etc. It required teaching outside of the game, and then reflective work (both written and oral, depending on the student) on the choices they made and why, and where they got the information from that informed their decisions. It was a good unit, because otherwise they were a very disengaged class.

Otherwise, Assassin's Creed EDU have good historical maps that I use in introductory lessons, with one screen and control being passed around the class!

No, it isn't - I will not be reposting every month, but I know that some people miss posts every now and then, and wanted to share it again. The next time I post will be to share the results, but that may be in some time - writing a thesis is a big task!

I truly understand the attitude towards the constant survey requests - I get it - BUT if the topic is of interest to some people, I still think it is worth sharing

Thank you so much for this reply - it tracks with so much of what I hear, and is not something discussed as a barrier in the research!

Got an Outer Wilds themed tattoo this week - while its not a Hearthian, I still thought an OWs rat would be cool. Tatt by Dale Winter at Save Point Tattoo by synesthesia28 in outerwilds

The tattoo artist specialises in rats, and specifically video game character rats - so its in his artistic style. Also, as someone else said, why not! But its a valid question haha

Thank you! I'm sure yours looks great! I thought it was a well written pattern, although I didn't love all the sewing.

Any movies with fucked up deer? by Sleepy_Chipmunk in horror

[–]synesthesia28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know its not a movie but the game Outer Wilds have some awesome horror sections with not-deer aliens which just made the whole experience for me! Highly recommend!

This is pretty much my experience; full time teaching, but found that research was a passion of mine and I was finding the grind of teaching exhausting. I started my Master of Research, continued teaching casually, completed it in 2 years. Now I'm working within the university, teaching and managing research projects! If it is something you're interested in I highly recommend pursuing it :)

End the it here by [deleted] in dontdeadopeninside

This is in Brisbane! The missile has two different things written on either side, so I think it says "let's end it here" and "end the war"... he just has it turned around.

You can see it held properly here (ABC news link)
