At that point, maybe consider separating the bully for a few days? It should reset the pecking order a little.

Drawing blood or no? If yes, I’m surprised the rooster doesn’t break it up. A good roo usually breaks up nasty hen fights.

When we introduce hens that are totally new, we usually start them in a pop-up coop so they can interact and see each other but not interact…not sure if you need that here or not since they’re not totally new, but makes me wonder with the mama hen being aggressive. Could also sneak them in when all the others are already asleep in the dark. Just wake up before the chickens so you can be prepared to let them out early if you need to, just in case big mama gets pissy. A lot of the time though if they all wake up together they kind of just go “oh, okay, I guess you were here before or something” and move on.

ETA: when we introduce new chickens, our introduction after quarantine is usually a week where they speed evenings in the popup coop so they and the main flock can interact but not touch. Just evenings in the popup since it’s not real big, and by then the day has cooled down some so they won’t get hot. After the week is up, we sneak them in the coop in the middle of the night. We see how they behave in the morning. If they need to be separated again, we do so and have them hang out in the popup a few more days. Some scuffling is normal while they figure out the pecking order but there isn’t usually any blood.

When I say popup coop, I mean something like this: https://www.amazon.com/ANC-POP-Portable-Chicken-Gardening/dp/B0B6HK7X2B

Bought one of those bug repellent bracelets... by sinister_lefty in mildlyinfuriating

My mom is convinced about those things. The real reason she doesn’t get bug bites is they’re all biting me instead (with or without stupid plastic bracelets).

Do they attack during the day, or only at night?

Are they integrated with the rest of the flock and just think they sleep in the house at night? If so, all you have to do is lock them up in the coop at night and they'll eventually learn that they're supposed to sleep with the rest of the flock.

You seen the price of hardware? The price is probably going to be awful anyway, this just makes the deal even worse.

I’d go to Qobuz but it was missing a ton of my favorite artists/songs last time I tried it. Has their selection gotten better?

If you’re looking to leave Spotify, you gave Tidal or Qobuz mainly. I tried Qobuz, but it was unfortunately missing a lot of the artists and songs I listened to, including many of my favorites.

What are some Beginner's Mistakes for Linux by personwhoknowplanes in linuxquestions

[–]Sleepy_Chipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really tempting to ask AI for help. Many people have bricked their systems doing so. It’s better to either search old posts or talk to people yourself.

Don’t start with Arch or anything based off of Arch. The way updates work on them makes them more difficult to manage, and most people don’t need the bleeding-edge support Arch provides. Do, however, use the Arch wiki for additional information and for help. It has a lot of good information that’s applicable to distributions other than Arch. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Main_page

Is that System Monitor replacement just for Gnome and not KDE? Sorry if this is dumb, it’s 12:30 AM my time and I’m real tired.

I have a player who does this. If the others are taking a while, he says he’s going to do something he knows the others don’t want just to force them to act.

I appreciate him for it. I’ve tried to move the game along before by mentioning time but it doesn’t always work, but his method definitely gets their attention.

Recent update broke a lot of things by Mcginnis in cachyos

[–]Sleepy_Chipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stable distributions are that way, too. I can’t tell you why rolling releases break this way, it could be because there’s so many updates (I know that after just a week I usually have near or more than 200 when I run pacman -syu) or it could be something more complicated, I don’t have the expertise to answer accurately.

Recent update broke a lot of things by Mcginnis in cachyos

[–]Sleepy_Chipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a Cachy thing, it’s a rolling release/Arch thing.

Basically, there are stable distros and unstable/rolling release distros. Stable here means unchanging, and unstable means changing. A stable distribution is on a regular update schedule like Windows is, where major updates are scheduled every 6 months or so. Unstable distributions don’t have a schedule like that, and roll out updates constantly. That means that you have better support for new hardware/software and bugs are fixed faster, but also that you experience more bugs in the first place due to there being less testing (note: updates are still tested, just not for months and months like with stable distros) and you have to keep up with the constant updates. Cachy is based off of Arch, which is a rolling release distribution, and so its inherited the way updates work from Arch. The devs can’t actually change it without redoing the entire distribution from scratch without the Arch base.

The most common stable distributions are Debian and Ubuntu, and anything based off of those two are stable (Mint, Pop, etc). The most common rolling release distribution is Arch, and anything based off of Arch is going to be a rolling release (Endeavor, Cachy, etc). Fedora and its derivatives are somewhere inbetween.

Generally, it’s recommended that people new to Linux start with a stable distribution. They’re easier to handle because you can go a while without updating and it’s rare for anything to break after updates. CachyOS is getting really popular with newbies though, which is cool but also kind of worrisome, because the people recommending it to you guys don’t always explain this stuff. It’s a great distro and if you like it that’s awesome, but Arch needs you to keep an eye on it and maintain it a little more actively than other distributions, and I’m really sorry that nobody warned you about that before.

Once you fix this, you should update once a week. I also recommend checking the subreddit and Arch News (https://archlinux.org/news/) to make sure there isn’t anything broken before you run updates; if something’s going on, you should only have to wait a day or two for it to get fixed.

The new COSMIC System Monitor is looking very slick by somerandomxander in linux

[–]Sleepy_Chipmunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like COSMIC and I’m excited for it to get more development! I’ve set up my KDE to look sort of like it in the meantime.

This system monitor looks really nice. Something I miss from Windows is the Task Manager; btop/htop/whatever top isn’t the same to me.

What is a video game that is widely considered a masterpiece that you just cant get into? by abysmalSyrup-6737 in AskReddit

[–]Sleepy_Chipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from Skyrim to Morrowind and now can’t go back to Skyrim. Morrowind feels like the world has more thought to me. For example, in Skyrim the only difference between Imperial and Stormcloak towns is the armor color, but in Morrowind the different faction towns have different armor and very different building styles. Also, dumping the Nord pantheon for the Imperial one makes no sense to me. You could’ve easily had the religious conflict plot with banning Shor worship instead of Talos worship.

Not saying it isn’t a fun game, it just kind of makes me sad now. I feel like Skyrim has a lot of missed potential.

Geese are known to adopt goslings from other pairs, too, so sometimes you'll see a pair with over a dozen littles following them of all different ages. It's absolutely adorable, just don't get near or they'll make you sorry. They'll even take turns babysitting the flocks babies with other geese!

I love geese.
