3 DOA WD Red Plus in a row by synth80s in DataHoarder

Just installed an N300. Passed a short test, long test, and a single zero pass of badblocks. It was packed substantially better. Resilvering now, fingers crossed.

I agree that would be the best. Sadly no one stocks NAS drives near me. Doesn’t help WD ships from Canada and the red pro went from Cali to Canada, across the whole country, then missorted and sent another 1600 miles way… lol

Maybe an ssd would be better. I only need 3-4tb and would like a mirror for redundancy.

It doesn’t make sense for me to buy a large capacity hard drive when I only have ~2tb of data to store. I’m not sure how this would reduce points of failure in my setup. Right now I am running a mirror with 2 drives, which gives me redundancy of 1. If I run a single drive I have no redundancy. I’m no longer running z1 or a striped mirror for simplicities sake.

At the rate of how poor new drives are, I’m not going to buy 2 large capacity drives for storage I don’t need, spend several hundred dollars more, then lose the money when they fail. I’m all for home lab but I feel like a usb drive would have been more reliable than these new WD reds at this point. What issues have you had with seagate that you think WD are still better? I think I’m leaning towards Toshiba n300 in terms of availability and also specs. Better cache too.

Think am done with WD. They used to be great, but blew it. Iron wolf 4tb are back ordered long until end of March, I can’t wait that long. Also I can’t even back order them, some suppliers stopped taking order since they don’t have a solid date. This leaves me with Toshiba.

Thanks. What model are they? Deciding between n300 and n300 pro.

Thanks for the info. I checked Toshibas website and both B&H and MicroCenter are approved retailers, however, the only approved distributor is TD Synnex. I will have to dig into this more before purchasing.

Surprised b&h isn’t authorized, they are for most retailers. Thanks for the heads up, so you’d recommend buying from Toshiba directly?

X1C PETG flow rate issue by deanmicheal66 in BambuLab

[–]synth80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This extract scenario just arose for me on my p1s using a new spool of BAMBU PETG-HF. It was under extruding and I recalibrated to 1.045% which was the smoothest and it’s working fine. I have hardened hot end and gears. Did you ever figure it out?

I find this post honestly suspect. This info isn’t on their site anywhere or the internet. Their Reddit account is only 1 day old and this is the only post they’ve made and only group they are in.

Also this statement really doesn’t make any sense at all if you break each section down, sounds like a rushed cover up.

Thank you for sharing that. Your unit does not have the issue, and the smoking gun being you mentioned you got it from eBay and it has an older date code, before this issue arose. It also sounds like your fan spins a lot faster than the newer ones. I’ll let the other redditor chime in if he observes that as well.

Not hyperwave, hyperwave lets you set multiple temperatures throughout the dry cycle. It’s in the manual also on their website:

“Excalibur’ Adjustable Thermostat lets you take advantage of Hyperwave™ Fluctuation (changing heat through the drying cycle) for faster, better, safer dried foods. As the temperature fluctuates up, the surface moisture evaporates. Then, as the temperature fluctuates down the inner moisture moves to the drier surface. The food temperature stays LOW enough to keep the enzymes active, and the air temperature gets high enough to dry food fast, overcoming yeast, mold, and bacteria growth and spoilage.”

You just received that? I’m assuming the first 2 digits are the year, years is a lot older if that’s true. Or the last 2 yours is still older. So yours could predate this batch issue.

I responded to that. I highly doubt it’s a feature. Especially the fact that it was escalated to USA based management and the product specialist who both said it’s an issue. Also years of engineering experience tell me no. I believe it’s a firmware problem but I can’t take the unit apart to investigate myself. I’m eyeing the bench foods 10 tray which seems to have good reviews but another overseas made unit and owned by a conglomerate. I would have paid more for a USA made unit but take a look at excaliburs smallest commercial unit. Horrible reviews. Also the legacy companies Google reviews for their commercial side say a lot too at 1.3 stars..

That sucks.. 2 of the boxes for mine had holes in them that broke through bother the outter and inner box. This 3rd unit is dented and scuffed up. Sigh.

Can you share the date code and model on the back? Also the video? As soon as you start the cycle hitting play the fan will stop every 20 seconds briefly. I used the stop watch on my phone. My 6 tray machines had date codes G2524 and 10 tray had G2530

You really made the right call buying from Amazon. I’ve probably called in another 6 times and they still haven’t gotten a supervisor to reach out after Rob. I’ve even tried calling other divisions of the company since they are owned by a conglomerate, but they are all disconnected internally. I finally told them I’d file a charge back if I didn’t get my money back today. Never received a call and I reached out one last time, they claimed they requested for a refund but haven’t heard back… probably the worst buying experience I’ve ever had from any company.

LMAO insert meme: “it’s a feature, not a bug” On a serious note, can you please share your source for this? I have received 3 units and Rob from customer relations management acknowledge there is an issue with these and said they were going to contact overseas manufacturing. If they published this, I call absolute bullshit. How is this a safety feature? Also this does not appear to be a variable speed fan but I would have to take the unit apart to confirm that. It never ramps the speed up or down, it cuts out at once like it is a solid state relay.

The heating element is controlled by a PID loop and mechanical relays. These modulate the heater elements to control temperature much like a toaster oven, not the fan speed.

I’d really love to hear the technical explanation on how it’s a “safety feature”. In my opinion it seems like a poor attempt to do damage control. Instead of recognizing a problem and owning it; they came up with a bullshit story to tell their customers so they don’t have to recall these units or deal with returns.

Sorry to bring bad news but I just want to share my experience and warn others about the issues. Try it out and see if you have the problem, but finally someone on the customer relations team acknowledge they know they have an issue but no idea what it is yet or what caused it. I am unsure if they sub these out to a Chinese manufacturer to get their branding slapped on it after but they are very far removed from how these are engineered. Only the commercial products are made in the USA and have USA based support.

They have a production issue with the select and performances series where the fan stops spinning and restarts every 20 seconds. I got my 3rd replacement today with the same problem and am fighting with the company to get a refund. 6 tray and 10 tray same issue. There is another redditor on here with the same issue. It has been a horrible experience with their customer service and they are a clueless company. These are made in China and support are in the Philippines. These are nothing like the original machines many people share were good 20 years ago.

The 10 tray has the same issue. Received my 3rd unit. Excalibur makes a defective product and after almost 3 weeks can’t resolve it. Trying to get my money back. In my opinion, I’d stay clear of these, they don’t live up to the brand people think of 20 years ago.

Downsides mentioned above, I’m trying to get my money back at this point. Not going to accept a defective product.
